SM Entertainment is known for high-class groups such as DBSK, Super Junior and girlgroup icon Girls' Generation. But with the years passing other entertainments, especially the other two of the Big Threes are up to challenge all of SM's new groups. Red Velvet might be a hit group but with rival groups such as TWICE or BlackPink even SM's youngest girlgroup has serious troubles competing with.

NCT wasn't the last project that SM exposed to the world. There is even more than that: Honey Crush which was a project that SM planned to debut even before Red Velvet is still waiting for their chance to show the world what they are made off, and they come with a special concept. While all the new groups debut with youthful, girlish songs and choreographies, Honey Crush will bring back some mature charm to the current generation of K-Pop.

The new SM group consists of a total of 9 members that are all trained for almost as long as the Girls' Generation or Super Junior members and will be step by step added to the starting line-up of 6. If it wasn't for SM's desperate need of debuting a group on the spot in 2014 due to some internal scandals and issues for which some of the trainees had to be sacrificed and which turned out as the current Red Velvet, HC would have debuted a long time ago. Yet, their chance had passed as SM wasn't willing to debut any of the members prior to what they were originally planned. So while the scapegoats Red Velvet got pretty popular, these girls had to wait for their chance to finally debut.

Honey Crush is a story that less deals with the issue of getting famous - as this is a given as one of the groups debuted under SM - than with the question how newcomers deal with immense fame, how they get along with each other, what risks they take to individually reach the top and how fans and their environment will change women who used to be just trainees but get thrown into the lives of allstars. And one may remind them: The higher you fly, the deeper you fall.
