Are monsters born or created?

"Mari? Baby, where are you?" Jahyun yelled as he walked down the hall, his shoulders were hunched and his breath was coming out in little white pants. The building was absolutely freezing and if he was cold, then his girlfriend had to be even colder. Eyes moving back and forth, trying to catch something in his vision, while he did his best to listen as hard as he could, only to see or hear nothing, he called out again, "Mari, it's not funny... We shouldn't even be here, remember? Mari, please answser me!"

Silence meets his yells and Jahyun wonders if the girl had even heard him or if she was playing tricks on him, intending to scare him because Jahyun had told he wasn't the type to be scared easy. But now, in the dead of night and walking down a dilapidated hallway that was supposed to be part of the buildings that were going to be demolished soon, he found his surroundings to be a little creepy. Every creak and crack his feet made or the howling of the wind was slowly scaring the out of him and he was quicky realizing he wasn't as brave as he thought.

The rumors of people having died in these buildings didn't help matters.

Quickening his pace until he had made it towards the end of the hall, Jahyun found himself jumping a foot in the air at the sudden BANG! that echoed throughout the room. Almost falling over himself from fear, voice calling out for Mari again, his ears twitched when he heard a familiar sound - the sound of laughter, before someone - his girlfriend, jumped out in front of him with a grin. The girl's smile looked huge across her face and it took everything within Jahyun to stay put and not yell at the girl for almost scaring the pants off of him.

"Made you scared, made you scared." She chanted, hips moving side to side in a victory dance that did nothing but put Jahyun out. His lips forming a pout at the girl having gotten him good, he eventually replied with a "Yeah, yeah, I wasn't that scared, y'know."

Only for the girl to laugh, "Sure you weren't and I'm the boogie man."

Unable to stop himself from glaring at her, he couldn't help but take a step back, fear suddenly clouding his vision as something propped itself on his girlfriend's shoulder. The thing grinning at him as soon as it noticed Jahyun was staring, terror freezing him in place, while his girlfriend, none the wiser could only laugh, not having noticed the apparition just yet. Stumbling over his words as he tried to warn the girl, to tell her that something was behind her - was touching her, he didn't get very far. Because within the short amount of time it took for him to say anything, the thing grabbed the girl and plunged itself within .

"M-Mari?" He croaked, still rooted to his spot, unable to move. He found himself peeing himself as soon as his girlfriend - no, the being spoke, voice deep and menacing, "Your girlfriend's gone, never to return."

Tears streaming down his face, while he whipped his head from side to side, Jahyun was finally able to take a step back. And then he took another and then another and it went on until he was running the other way, sprinting. However, before he could even get two-thirds of the way down the hall, his girlfriend's body flew itself at him with such speed and force that he couldn't have done anything to protect himself from the pain that quickly followed.

Body arching in the air as agony tore through his chest, Jahyun shakily looked down, only to see his girlfriend's bloodsoaked hand... He...

"Jahyun?"

"Jahyun?"

"Man, wake the up. You slept past your alarm."

ing himself out of bed, breathing heavily, with his girlfriend's name at the tip of his tongue in a silent scream, Jahyun doesn't expect to meet the floor. Body htting the wood so hard it almost knocks the air out of him, but definitley knocks him out of whatever panic he was in, he almost misses his roommate's concerned, "Mari again?"

Only for Jahyun, whose body was still stuck in a cold sweat and his nerves almost fried, eventually found the strength to nod as he staggered over his words, "Yeah... She... It... I, it just felt so real... She-"

"It's not real, it's never going to be real," His roommate - no, friend, starts off, fingers pinching the bridge of his nose, before going on, "Did you take your meds? You know you don't have these dreams when you take them."

Wanting to say that it wasn't the meds and that his dreams had actually meant something, but knowing it would be met with little success, he decides to concede instead.

"Yeah, I didn't take them last night. I forgot, okay?"

Only for his friend to give a knowing sigh, "Dude, you got take your meds. I know it's hard sometimes, but you can't just do this... Mari's been gone for years and she wouldn't want to see you like this. It'd hurt her, so Jahyun, please don't forget anymore... You know the meds are there to help you, so you can't forget them or think of skipping them because you don't like them, alright?"

Feeling properly chastised, Jahyun can only mutter, "Yeah, I know... I was... I was just being stupid. I'll remember to take my meds so you don't have to see me like this anymore."

Hearing his friend sigh, almost as if that wasn't the answer that he had wanted to receive, but was willing to take for the time being, Jahyun patiently waited for his friend to offer him a hand.

"Let's get ready, Mr. Nam hates it when we're late."

"Yeah, I know."

From there, Jahyun had gone about his morning, but the dream, Mari, the pain... He just couldn't get it out of his head...

'Mari, what are you trying to tell me?'
