Lion Hyung

wins chance to shot free throw for big prize

Taekwoon was waiting outside for Wonshik, his ears ringing from the loud music, and his eyes stinging from the flashing lights. He was a little nervous about being alone with a complete stranger, but the guy seemed trustworthy enough. He bit his lip as he leaned against the wall, checking his phone and humming a tune to keep himself occupied. It had only been a couple minutes since he stepped out, but he felt oddly impatient. It was only8PM on a weekday, so it wasn’t like they had to be afraid of nothing being open. Maybe it was just wishful thinking?
Before Taekwoon could delve any further that maybe Wonshik wasn’t coming, he felt someone blow in his ear. He jumped away in surprise, spinning in the direction it came from, ready to hit the perpetrator. When he noticed it was Wonshik, who looked ready to dodge Taekwoon with an amused expression and a complete change of clothing, he lowered his hands.
“Whoa there.” Wonshik was saying with a chuckle, raising his hand in mock-surrender. “You should’ve told me you were feisty.”
“Sorry. Don’t sneak up on me like that-” Taekwoon rubbed his nape. He looked Wonshik up and down. “Nice, uh, outfit.”
Wonshik’s lips turned up slightly. “Which do you think suits me better?”
Taekwoon took another look of the outfit. It consisted of ripped black jeans, a white graphic tank top covered with a black zip-up hoodie, and a white beanie. On his feet were black and white Nike shoes. It was very hip-hop-y as opposed to the dapper outfit he had in the bar. Both looked great on him, honestly.
Taekwoon shrugged, awkward about expressing his own feelings. “You look good in both.”
Wonshik laughed and patted Taekwoon’s shoulder. “I’ll ask you the same question later. You better give me a proper answer then. Nowlets get going.”
“Where?” Taekwoon questioned as Wonshik lead him towards his car.
“You’ll see.” Wonshik winked. “I know how to take someone on a date. Trust me.”
Right. This was a date. Wonshik confirmed it for him. He got into Wonshik’s car and off the two went to wherever it was that Wonshik wanted to take him. Taekwoon just took Wonshik’s word for it that he knew how to take someone on a good date. He just hoped nothing weird happened.

Around fifteen minutes later, Wonshik parked the car on the street. Taekwoon looked up. Just a bit away, there were florescent lights flashing in the darkness, lighting various types of fair rides, a Ferris wheel and Gyro drop just to name a couple. Wonshik nudged Taekwoon, smiling at the latter’s shock and awe expression.
“What do you think?” he asked. “Am I good, or what?”
“How did you know about this place?” Taekwoon asked, his eyes lighting up slightly. “I don’t remember seeing there being a fair in town, and this isn’t Lotte World for sure.”
Wonshik shrugged and patted Taekwoon’s back. “I have my ways, Taekwoon-ssi.”
Wonshik tossed another wink at Taekwoon and clicked his tongue as he got out of the car. Taekwoon blinked, following Wonshik out of the car silently, unsure how to react to all the winking Wonshik was doing, especially now with the click of
tongue. He patted his face and walked around the car to meet up with the stranger.
“Ah, that reminds
me.” Wonshik said, turning to Taekwoon. “It’d be good to know how old you are. Wouldn’t want to be treating you as older or younger than you actually are.”
Taekwoon tilted his head. He always found it embarrassing saying his age. It made him seem older than he should. Regardless, he said, “Twenty-six. I know, I’m old. Feel free to laugh.”
“Heol, that’s a lot older than I
expected.” Wonshik said. “Not that that’s bad or anything. It just means you’re more mature. I’m twenty-three. I guess that makes you my hyung.” He hummed. “Taekwoon-hyung. Let’s go, hyung.”
Without warning, Wonshik pushed Taekwoon forward. Taekwoon stumbled and glared back at Wonshik, who just laughed and casually threw his arm around Taekwoon’s shoulder. Taekwoon looked away, too embarrassed to try and move out of the younger male’s grip. Wonshik patted Taekwoon shoulder.
“Sorry. I did that on purpose.” the younger grinned. “Call me sadistic or whatever but I think your glares are cute.”
Taekwoon rolled his eyes but kept his gaze away from Wonshik. “Whatever.”
Wonshik laughed shortly and continued leading Taekwoon towards the entrance of the amusement park. He eventually let Taekwoon go and they walked silently until they got to the gates, where Wonshik insisted on paying for the entry tickets. And the ride tickets. Taekwoon had to force Wonshik to let him pay for the food and drinks.

“Sorry.” Wonshik said as they ate various deep fried foods. “Sometimes I get carried away.”
Taekwoon shrugged. “I just always feel bad when people have to pay for me. I keep wanting to pay them back.”
Wonshik hummed. “You don’t have to. I’d say being here with someone as closed off as you is payment enough.”

“Cheesy.” Taekwoon muttered, a small smile gracing his face. If he knew Wonshik well enough, he probably would’ve gave him a playful hit.
“Finally got you to smile!” Wonshik grinned. “Anyways. What rides did you want to go on?” he paused. “Uhhh…not including the high rides. U-unless you want to.”
Taekwoon quirked an eyebrow. Wonshik had sounded so confident the entire evening. But suddenly he seemed so…nervous? Judging from how he said he didn’t want to include high rides, then stuttered right after, perhaps he was afraid of heights? The idea amused him, despite also having a mild fear of heights.
“Are you smirking at me?” Wonshik asked, frowning. “You’re mocking me, aren’t you? Alright, yes, I’m afraid of heights. Is that so wrong?
Taekwoon couldn’t help but laugh. Wonshik stared at him, unsure whether to get angry that he’s laughing at him or be glad he finally got the older to actually laugh. He tilted his head, waiting for Taekwoon to calm down a bit, slightly amused that his own fear caused Taekwoon to laugh so hard. Also slightly offended that he was being laughed at.
“S-sorry.” Taekwoon managed. “It reminded me of something. It’s okay. I’m not too fond of heights either.”
Wonshik narrowed his eyes, his frown deepening and his eyebrows inching closer to each other. He stared at the older for a while before breaking into a chuckle himself. Taekwoon, who had feared he’d said something wrong by accident relaxed hearing the chuckle, and exhaled a breath he didn’t realize he was holding.
“Anyways, let’s start. What do you want to do first?” Wonshik asked. “Carousel? Bumper cars? Or maybe a fair game?”
Taekwoon hummed, “Let’s see if we have any luck at the games first. Since they’ll probably close first.”
Wonshik nodded. “Sure. That works.” he rises to his feet and offers Taekwoon a hand up. “I hope you don’t mind hand holding on the first date? There’s a lot of people still despite it being late. Wouldn’t want either of us to get lost.”
Taekwoon glanced up. He said that so confidently that there would be more dates
afterwards. He bit his lip and took Wonshik’s outstretched hand. Wonshik did have a point; it was still pretty crowded, for it being close to 9pm. The younger pulled Taekwoon to his feet and offered him a smile before half dragging him to the direction where the games were, their hands held loosely between them as Taekwoon tried to match his pace.

As the two were browsing the different games, one of the stall owners jumped forwards, nearly scaring Taekwoon half to death. He clutched his chest a little more over-dramatically then he intended. Wonshik noticed this and laughed before turning towards the stall owner, who immediately starting talking Wonshik’s ears off. Taekwoon noticed the man eyeing their hands and immediately tried to let go, but Wonshik just used it as an excuse to intertwine their fingers and squeeze the older male’s hand. This guy was smooth.
“You,
young lad, seem to be a fairly capable man. How would you like to participate in one Free Throw for my basketball game? If you get all 5 points you’ll win a big prize. If you get 3 in you get a small prize. What say you? You can win your, er, boyfriend here, a nice prize.”
How the man managed to say that much in one breath was beyond Taekwoon. He felt exhausted just saying a couple sentences. That was probably his mild social anxiety
talking though. Wonshik didn’t seem to miss a beat as he followed the stall owner to his game, dragging Taekwoon along with him.
While the man was busy gathering the balls, Wonshik turned to Taekwoon with a winning smile. “I’ll definitely win you the biggest prize. Why? Because I can.” he winks playfully, giving Taekwoon’s hand a squeeze before letting go.
Taekwoon watched as Wonshik was debriefed on the rules of the game. There was also a time limit of 2 minutes. Taekwoon was questioning whether Wonshik could pull this off or not. He’d already chosen his big
prize, and didn’t like any of the small prizes. So he’d be very disappointed if Wonshik said he’d win a big prize but then fail.
Before Taekwoon could even start to question Wonshik, though. He started throwing. Despite the target moving, Wonshik managed to get the first ball in. Taekwoon felt his lips twitch upwards as he made the second shot as well. By the third
shot Taekwoon was clapping enthusiastically, cheering for Wonshik. If he got the last two in, Taekwoon would get a prize. And while he didn’t want to seem selfish, it always had been a…dream of his to have his significant other win him a prize.
Taekwoon almost threw himself at Wonshik when he made the last two shots with 30 seconds to spare. The stall owner looked stunned, most likely expecting Wonshik to fail and have to pay the extra to actually try and win. Instead of hugging Wonshik, Taekwoon opted for jumping up and down and
highfiving him repetitively. Wonshik seemed shocked at Taekwoon’s actions, but laughed and patted his shoulder.
“What do you want, hyung?” he asked. “So that I can get it and not give it to you.”
Taekwoon’s expression sagged into a frown as he glared at the younger. You could say he was more than mildly disappointed. He wanted to think his glare was worse than ever, though it actually just looked like a sad gaze.
Wonshik squeezed Taekwoon’s shoulders. “I’m kidding, kidding. Don’t look at me like that. Seriously, what do you want? I promise I’ll give it to you.”
Taekwoon
pouted without realizing it as he mumbled. “Giant lion plush…”
“What?” Wonshik looked at Taekwoon. “Speak up. I didn’t hear you.”
Taekwoon raised his voice slightly. “Lion plush. I want the lion plush.”
“Oh? Because you’re feisty like a lion?” Wonshik laughed. “Alright. You’ve been good so far so I’ll get it for you”
The latter scratched Taekwoon’s chin like you would an animal, causing him to serve away with a frown. Wonshik chuckled and asked the man for the giant lion plush, giving it to Taekwoon after receiving it, patting the older on the lower back gently.
“Where should we go next?” he asked with a smile. “By the way, I’m gonna call you Lion now no matter how annoyed you get by it.”
The rest of the night was spent going on various rides and eating more food. It was fun, Taekwoon could admit that. The went on a high roller coaster, and it wasn’t as bad as either of them expected. The last ride they went on was the Ferris Wheel. It was
11pm and the place was about to close, but Wonshik managed to convince the staff to let them on.
“You really didn’t have to do that,
Wonshik-ah.” Taekwoon said, clutching his plush doll, which he was allowed to take on, as it wasn’t too big.
Wonshik looked over. “You know…I think that’s the first time you’ve casually said my name this whole night.” he smiled. “And I wanted to end the day nicely. What better than do go on a Ferris wheel?”
Taekwoon blinked. He hadn’t really thought about it until now, but he really hadn't said Wonshik’s name the entire night. At least not casually. After a bit of thought, he concluded that Wonshik was the same. “You’ve only just called me hyung or ‘Lion-hyung’ since you’ve found out I’m older than you, so you shouldn’t be one to talk.”
Wonshik hummed. “I guess you’re right. Let’s make it even then.” He cleared his throat. They were stopped at the top of the Ferris wheel. “I had a good time today, thanks to you, Taekwoon-hyung. This is probably the best date I’ve been on. I may not be the best company but…would you consider going out on another date with me later? And maybe…permanently?”
Taekwoon blinked, unsure exactly what Wonshik meant by permanently. Of course, he wouldn’t mind going on another date with him. He hadn’t had that much fun in a while, though he didn’t want to admit it to Wonshik. The latter noted Taekwoon’s confusion and rephrased his question.
“What I’m trying to say is…it’s only been a few hours, but I can’t help but being pulled towards you and your personality. So…Taekwoon-hyung, will you go out with me?”
Taekwoon froze. His heartbeat quickened as he took in Wonshik’s question. “W-
wonshik-ah I-” he bit his lip, unsure what to say. His face was hot, so he hid behind his plush as he responded. “Y-yeah. I-I’d like that.” he smiled slightly, knowing Wonshik probably wouldn’t be able to see it through the toy.
But Taekwoon could definitely see the huge grin that spread across Wonshik’s face as he threw himself at the older in a tight hug, that also caused the cabin to shake. Taekwoon ended up clinging to Wonshik in fear, therefore returning the hug. Wonshik just
laughed, but refused to let the older go the rest of the way down no matter how much Taekwoon struggled.
