CHAPTER 2: THE BEGINNING

            There was a feeling of nervousness as Yoori followed Jungkook back to her studio. Their walk was silent and they both kept a distance from each other. She was surprised to see that her studio was in a good condition and that nothing was broken. As soon as they entered, she couldn’t help but have her eyes focus onto the spot in which Jungkook had killed that man from the night before. She was relieved to see that the area in which there was a pool of blood the night before is now cleaned up and gone. Yoori did recall Jungkook’s friends tell her that they fixed up everything in the studio earlier in the morning.

“Look…about this morning, I apologize for snapping at you for no reason.” Jungkook said to her. “Oh, uh…it’s okay…” She awkwardly said to him, not knowing what else to say. She didn’t expect him to suddenly change the atmosphere so quickly though. Jungkook’s expression changed from an awkwardly shy look to his typical cold and heartless appearance.

“But there’s something else that I need to tell you before I leave.”

“Okay, what is it?”

“From now on, you’ll be affiliated with our gang and will be working for us.” He told her it as if it would be the most casual thing to ever say. “E-Excuse me? What do mean by working for your gang?!”

“What part of it do you not understand?”

“How c-can you just order me to work for you?! That doesn’t even make sense!”

“Just listen and there won’t be a problem. I tell you to work and you follow my orders, simple as that.”

“No. You can’t force me to work under you people!”

“Listen here!” He said sternly, holding up her chin so that she would face him directly. His voice sent chills down her spine. She didn’t know why this was happening to her. All of this just didn’t make any sense for him to have the right to decide to do whatever he wanted. “You are going to ing work for the gang because you’ve witnessed what you shouldn’t have. And you’ll be working as the hacker for the gang. Working under us will let us keep an eye on you, just in case.”

            She couldn’t help but scoff at him when she was told she was going to be a hacker. It was something that just seemed so unbelievably unrealistic and random. “Hacker? How did you even conclude that I can even hack into things? Let alone hack for a gang in which I don’t even know?! This all doesn’t even make any ing sense!”

“We are going to have you as our hacker and that’s that. I’m not that stupid, you major in computer science. I noticed your textbook here this morning when I was cleaning things up. If I were you, I’d just obey the rules and instructions.”

“Who do you think you are to just randomly tell me that I’m working for you or not?! I didn’t choose to meet you last night! If you’re afraid I might run off and tell, I won’t, I’ll shut myself up if you want!” Jungkook smirked at her and his facial expression was so cold, she began trembling. “You know, you should just listen before I have to force you to do so. Do you know why our previous hacker no longer works for us anymore?” The smirk that his lips had formed was still present even as he spoke to her.

“It’s because I found out he betrayed us by helping out our rival gang. And guess what happened to him? I killed him myself.” He said, whispering into her ear. Her body froze when she felt his hands place themselves onto her shoulders. “So, are you going to listen or do you want to end up the same as that guy?”

“I-I’ll listen to y-you…” She stuttered.

            It was when Jungkook left the studio that she could finally breathe. His presence just made her body tremble in fear. Rethinking over the things he’s told her, she just couldn’t believe something this outrageous would be happening. How in the world could she live perfectly fine her entire life and then encounter some stranger and end up being told she’d work for his gang the very next day? How could her life just suddenly flip and change 180 degrees like this?

            Yoori thought through how things would be from now on. What kind of person will she turn into? How would she be able to continue her daily life that she’s been living for so long? She even considered the possibility of running away back to the States but she knew that it wouldn’t end the way she’d want it to. Things will only be worse if she decided to run away. For the next three days, Jungkook wouldn’t stop bothering her over the fact that she’d work for them the next day. She didn’t even know how in the world he had even gotten her phone number either. The thing is, she couldn’t even tell anyone about it either. She can’t tell anyone how scared she felt.

“Yah, Yoori, are you even listening to me?” Her friend, Jihun questioned her, making her snap out of her thoughts.

“Huh? Oh, sorry, I was just thinking for a bit…” She had to lie to him about everything over the past few days. Yoori wished she could tell him but who knows what will happen to the both of them if she does that?

            A frown was displayed from the sight of Jungkook appearing in her studio. She swore just the sight of him always makes her mood turn negative. He just simply ruins everything for her whenever he appears. She hated the fact that his presence was so intimidating. Jungkook didn’t waste time to explain to her the rules of her job within the gang. He didn’t bother giving her background information about the gang and what they do but instead, he just continues to explain only what she’d be involved in.

            Another person was seated in the room Jungkook had led her into. He was smiling at her and took out his hand, ready for her to greet him and shake his hand. “Yoori! We’ve met the other day, I’m Seokjin. I’m the other hacker that will be working with you!” She awkwardly grinned at him, not knowing if he’d be as snappy as Jungkook. To her preference, it’d be best to not piss anyone off right when she meets them. But Seokjin seemed kinder than Jungkook though, he looked friendlier and it was obvious that compared to Jungkook, he liked to meet new people. Yoori shook his hand in which he held out when he greeted her.

“You know, it’s been quite lonely since a while back after my partner quit. I’m glad I have a partner to work with now!” He said happily. She then began to think about what Jungkook had mentioned to her the other day.

“I have a question to ask you…”

“Yeah sure what is it?”

“Is…Is it true that Jungkook killed the previous hacker that worked with you? He didn’t quit, did he?” His left eyebrow raised and as he frowned, he let out a heavy sigh.

“He told you that?” She nodded in response and in disappointment, he said under his breath, “God, I thought I made it clear that he shouldn’t say those things…”

“So, is it true? Did he kill that person?” There was a look of fear in her eyes when she asked him. He mumbled quietly to her a ‘yes’. “I sincerely apologize if Jungkook scared you in any way.”

“I-It’s fine…”

“Jungkook can get eager with getting tasks done the way he wants it to be completed.”

“I’m actually curious about how you all just suddenly believe that I’m fit to be your hacker. Yes, I major in computer science but how would you know if I’d be a good hacker?”
