Awkward (HIATUS - until Mountain Rose finishes)
Description
In Princess and the Pea, a prince strives to find the girl who is able to prove her royal identity.
In this story, a hotel director tries to find the woman who saved his life.
Park Chanyeol holds onto the hope that one day he will be able to find the girl who pushed him away from a speeding car and certain death. The only thing that reminds him of this is the mangled scars at the side of his face, safely hidden by luscious hair, a distant demeanor, and a ton of BB cream.
Trouble is, it’s been fifteen years of wishing and searching to no avail, and his mother is more than a little concerned that his obsession with this mysterious girl will attract the unwanted judgement of the chaebol world, a world that Chanyeol must learn to tread very carefully if he wants to be taken seriously as a CEO. Questions would arise should he – a most eligible bachelor of twenty-three – continue to refuse having a single relationship.
But what Park Chanyeol ever wanted, like the prince in the fairytale, is to find his princess.
Park Sun Young is a young woman with a hidden secret: beneath her easygoing, bubbly exterior lies a traumatized soul with a deep-set phobia of speeding cars, pedestrian crossings, and busy junctions. While she may have nobly saved Chanyeol fifteen years prior, she will never be able to forget the sensation of flying through the air after being hit by the car that would have claimed his life.
Furiously trying to assume normalcy, Sun Young adopts a vivacious outlook on life, enjoying her gap year as a florist, helping children and the elderly cross the road, and visiting her mother at the hotel where she works.
All Park Sun Young ever wanted, like the princess in the fairytale, is to have a good night’s sleep someone who understands her.
There will be mentions of psychological issues, such as PTSD, anxiety, and other mental health topics, but these will be discussed clearly and it won’t be like those typical ‘psychological’ AUs written by young people who randomly copy paste from Google. I studied Psych, I know my . But if you spot any mistakes, feel free to point it out to me.
As always, like all my novels so far…
This will be rated NC-16 for coarse language, violence, , and extreme sarcasm. You have been warned.

Author Note
Back when I hadn’t discovered fanfiction, I used to write original novels based off the original fairy tales, largely because I felt that most of the ones that we know of now didn’t fully grasp the essence of the original story that it was based on. Did you know that in the original version of Beauty and The Beast, Belle had five other siblings? Must have been quite a loud house, with that many people.
And did you ever hear how Cinderella’s stepsisters actually cut off their toes to fit their feet into the glass slippers? Tragic.
Of course you don’t. The original, sometimes fantastical, sometimes horrific – looking at you, Sleeping Beauty – are not for younger audiences, and therefore should largely be out of the public eye for the sake of our innocence.
But I’ve always been entranced by the origins of the princesses we know now, and this year I am dedicating my fanfic of the year to Princess And The Pea, or, to put it simply, the story of a prince’s pursuit of his ideal princess.
Except in Awkward, you replace the prince with a man who yearns to find closure to his guilt and you throw a princess who doesn’t even know she’s a princess. These two characters form the basis of an unconventional love story, the story of how two people’s lives entwine over a road accident, and how they reunite once again and embrace each other, fifteen years later, for their flaws and their insecurities, even if it takes some time for them to actually realize the importance of each other.
But hey, the course of love never did run smooth.
This isn’t your typical kdrama fic, so if you like how male leads pull their leading lady’s hands roughly and putting on an I-do-this-because-I’m-jealous face, or you want your Mary Sue OCs who are submissive and dumb, the exit is right there. Either you cast aside those preconceived notions of romance or you get out.
I'm not saying there won't be such instances inside this story where you get frustrated at the main characters, but there's a reason for every action, and it will all be revealed.
To everyone else who remains, welcome. I’m excited to embark on this journey with you, and I hope that you and I get acquainted well as the story goes along. Don't forget to upvote this if you liked it, because that would let me know if you enjoyed reading!
