About the club:

Each week, there will be a randomized Author of the Week (AOTW) with a specific story. Since the book club is just beginning, all members of the book club are required to write a quality review for that week's story. The Author of the Week will choose the best review for her story. The author of that best review will be the Star Reviewer (SR) and will have his/her work featured for the upcoming whole week.

So the featured stories every week will be two: One is the randomized Author of the Week's story. The other is the Star Reviewer's story. Featured period will last for one week, then another feature period.

All members of the club will be assured to be an Author of the Week by randomization before another cycle of randomization starts.

In short, how to get your story featured the following week? Make quality reviews for the current spotlight's story of the week.

It doesn't matter if you will get voted as the Star Reviewer every week as long as you write quality reviews. The key here is write a quality review (not just an appraising comment).

What is a quality review?

A constructive criticism that highlights the good things and rooms for improvement in a story, while covering aspects like flow, grammar, characterization, and plot, and other aspects you can think of.

 

Eligibility to join the club:

1. Must be an AFF writer with at least one story uploaded, minimum of five chapters.

2. Native and non-native English speakers, as long as you have decent command of grammar. As a moderator, I will be screening this ability by browsing through one of your stories. This is the minimum requirement since we're all here to critique each other's work and we can't do that if we don't even know the basics.

3. Must not be mean to other writers. In a review, there must be a good balance between 1) praises (to motivate the writer), and 2) constructive criticism (to improve the writer). A mean reviewer is easy to detect and will cause dismissal from the club.

4. If an online fight erupts because of critiques received and critiques given, those involved will be automatically dismissed from the club. The key here is to be modest and be considerate of others. Accept what you think is acceptable, defend what you have to defend, critique what you have to critique, in the most modest way possible.

5. Absolutely no comparing of your work to the work you're critiquing. No one wants an arrogant writer who thinks too highly of his/herself. It doesn't matter if you're a popular author in AFF --- you WILL BE DISMISSED IMMEDIATELY from the club.

6. Do NOT plagiarize the works that you will be critiquing. We'll eventually find out and every member of this club will hunt you down with pitchforks. 

 

Rules:

1. This club is ONLY for stories with romance as one of the main genres. (For other genres, I'm yet to create another book club for those and still in the process of looking for moderators for it).

2. No allowed. No boy x boy. No girl x girl. No harem. No reverse harem.

3. Members of this club are REQUIRED to write a review every week for the AOTW story. It doesn't matter what chapter you have caught up on for that story, but you should have at least read 5 chapters minimum (the Author of the Week will vote on the best review so it's really up to her. He/she can even pass on voting if she thinks none of the reviews were good).

a. Failure to produce a review before the deadline will cause a demerit of one point for the offending party. Three demerits will cause automatic dismissal from the club.

b. Giving no-effort reviews will cause one demerit point. (be sure to do your best when reviewing because I'll also browse through the AOTW story reviews to see if you're being fair to the other members. Not to scare you. The point here is DON'T give so-so reviews because everyone can do that now in AFF.) 

But note to the Author of the Week: If I see a really good review on your story but you still declined or passed on voting (for reasons like you hate the reviewers/co-club members or so and you don't want their stories to get featured in this club), you will be demerited two points. If you receive three demerit points, you will be dismissed from the club.

Cutoff deadline for reviews will be 11:00pm EST every Saturday.

4. Popular stories (those with stars on them) are not eligible to be the representative story of the member.

Reason: This book club also aims to bring to spotlight undiscovered gems.

5. Members who are in a conspiracy plot to vote for each other every week just to get their own stories featured will be automatically dismissed. (You will eventually be found out. Don't ask how I'll find out about it.)

 

Format:

1. Reviews are to be placed in the comment section of the Author of the Week's story. Deadline for reviewing is every Saturday, 11:59 pm EST. I will browse through comment section of the story, and the Author of the Week may also inform me thru PM if a co-member still hasn't given a review once deadline time strikes.

2. Author of the Week should PM me about the best reviewer on the following Sunday before 1:00 PM EST.

3. I will be putting up the Star Reviewer's story and the next randomized AOTW story for the following week on or before 11:59 PM of the same Sunday.

4.  The minimum number of members in order for the club to start should be five (5). (So the Author of the Week will have 5 reviewers right away.)
