By the Sam got back to her room, it was past midnight, she had to walk back but it didn’t help that she had gotten lost at least 2 times and had to circle back. But all this walking had given her time to think about what Jackson had been trying to tell her. There are still so many parts that are unclear and didn’t make sense to her. Why was Jackson getting angry at her? What did she do that was so wrong? Did she like the Kris?

Yes, that is the short answer. Kris makes her heart flutter, but if her two friends from back home, would have questioned isn’t her heart just beating fast because he is dangerous causing her ‘flutters’.

Despite going through this internal debate, something that Jackson had said earlier bothered her, and the more she thought about it the more it confused her. What did Jackson mean that he was not supposed to like Kris? Are they enemies? But it would not make sense that he is his right hand man and seems to somewhat enjoy the position. Then it hit her! Jackson was in love with Kris! Someone he was not supposed to like but ended up falling for him! No wonder he was so persistent in asking her how she felt about Kris, was he perhaps jealous?

But what did Jackson mean when he said that she did not know Kris at all. How he came to become the head of such a corporation is a story that can only be made up in dreams. Wu corporations was an institution that bordered along legal and illegal, reason being that it used to a prominent part of the dark underbelly of this city, but when Kris acquired it, he wanted to turn it around to a proud upstanding institutes, but old habits of the members and other reasons made it almost impossible for Kris to succeed.

Sam had been avoiding Jackson but not that it really mattered because it seemed like everyone was too busy to really pay her any attention. She did once see Jackson talking to a few people that looked very suspicious, she was going to say hi, but she lost her chance when the conversation between Jackson and his companions quickly turned heated. She wandered off but a few minutes later, she spotted his companions getting into police vehicle.

“What are you looking at?” A voice appears behind her, scaring her.

“Jackson! Uhm, I was saw you talking to some people and didn’t want to interrupt. Are they your friends?”

“More like colleges”

“Are they also under Wu corporations?”

“Not exactly, more like they are just…” Jackson pauses, trying to look for the correct word. “Involved.”

On the other hand, Kris basically spends all his free time with her, and the more she felt closer to him, but she has never asked about what he did when he was not with her. It would be easy to fall in love with him. Despite the cold hard exterior, internally he was actually a warm and often just misunderstood.

That is why Sam couldn’t understand why she couldn’t bring herself to say she loved him, but at the same time she knew exactly what she would be in love with. Her mind couldn’t help but think of Jackson, was he really in love with Kris?

Sams thoughts were interrupted by the lights going off in the building. It took a moment for her to realize that all electric appliances were not working. Scrabbling to her feet she felt around to look for her phone but she was stopped by the sound of gun shots, wood splintering, and glass shattering. She retreated back to the farthest part of her room. She couldn’t help but wonder if this was what her life will be about from now on. Suddenly it felt as if the world was closing on her and she had no escape, she didn’t want to live in this world, this other world that Kris is part of. It would explain her reluctance to find out the truth from him.

Deep down she knew that this isn’t actually what she wanted. She wanted normal, even though some people would say that normal is boring, but normal does not mean unhappiness. It just means many small happiness’ that can keep you going until the next bit of happiness comes along. She didn’t want this type of happiness that can be taken away at any moment.

She couldn’t help but imagine all the people that she had met here and have come palpitate, injured or worse. He vision became a bit darker and her breathing increasing.

Save me!

She thought.

SAVE ME!

Bright lights shone in her eyes, blinding her.

“I got you.”

It took a few moments for her eyes to adjust; she saw that familiar blonde hair before anything as she wrapped her arms around him. But he quickly shuffled backwards when she saw what was written his uniform, POLICE. Written so bold and brightly there was no mistaking it.

Jackson spoke first, using careful words, “I can explain, but first we need to get you out of here.”

Undercover, classified mission.

Jackson’s previous words made sense. Someone he was not supposed to like, the enemy in all sense of the word. His ‘colleges’.

Confused, Sam could not find someone to talk to. Kris was gone. According to Jackson, he managed to make a run for it. In some ways Sam was hurt she was left behind, but at the same time she couldn’t help but feel relieved that he was somewhere out there, he was probably fine and maybe he might have a chance to start over. Create that normal life she had just thought about not so long ago.

“I’m alone again.”

“How can you be alone when I am with you all the time?” Jackson said sitting down next to her. He looked tired, dark circles lining his eyes.

“Why would you do that?”

“Well it seems that I just can’t seem to leave you alone.” Jackson says with a grin. “So I guess you are stuck with me.”

Sam rolls her eyes as she jumps up from her seat, “Who would want something like that?” she says as she walks away.

“Wait up.” Jackson says grinning widely as he gets up.

“Who would do that?” Sam says, but despite her words, her actions say otherwise as her walk turns to a stroll.
