The cafeteria looked like the school's gym. A hatch connecting it to the kitchen was opened and the smell of chips and baked beans came wafting in. The students of the Arcadia College lined up across the back-wall with brown formica trays in their hands, kicking the wall with their toes, or leaning on it as they shuffled along. Among them was Hwang Nari, a beautiful Korean-American female. As soon as she got her food, she sat down at one of the octagonal tables.
The cafeteria was a cacophony of loud chatter, each table a cosseted huddle of people raising their voices to be heard above the din. The food was secondary to the information that was exchanged here. Gossip, rumours, assumptions, you name it. Over the over-salted fries alliances were formed and gossip was traded like poker chips. However there was one conversation from the table next to her's captured her attention immediately. A conversation so buoyant and intended to be heard by her.
"Have you seen the latest article on Allkpop? Mark is supposed to be in a relationship with SNSD's Seohyun. Dispatch is about to realise the pictures they took on a date from both of them if the companies will not a release a statement today", a brunette girl, whose name Nari didn't know, begun excitedly.
Nari's hazel eyes wandered to the girls occupying the table, immersed in the topic that pulled a trigger inside of her. She felled like her chest tightened into a knot and quiet rage boiled on the inside.
"Just like a drama! But to be perfectly frank, they make a great couple. A match made in heaven. She's the only girl that can meet Mark's standards. Although I love him, I do have to give him credits for the choice of his girlfriend. None of us would have had a chance anyways", another girl added bitterly, attacking the fries with her fork.
Every word stung only fueling the fire that burned inside of Nari. Having a long distance relationship was hard to bear, with her studying design in Amerika and Mark being part of the Korean boygroup GOT7. They have been friends since kindergarten and eventually fell in love, before Mark was street casted by a scout from JYP Entertainment.
Of course, she trusted her boyfriend, but the fact that he was surrounded by females made her insecure. Her doubts were her best friends, running around in her head and feeding off of insecurities she has.
