An individual speck of frost seems tiny and insignificant, but each ice crystal contributes to something vastly beyond its scope: a crisp, frosty landscape, ethereally beautiful and sparkling in the winter sun.  And of course, the first frost is always the most magical.  Make the frost your words and that landscape your story. Whether you get a thrill from writing to a deadline, or you want to try a one-shot or your first OC chaptered fic, or you like seeing how far you can run with a prompt, or whether you'd just like a little support  to get your first fic finished but without a contest deadline, First Frost might be for you!  If you don't write, challenges are a good way to find new fics and you can stalk the entries here.

The way it works is simple.  Pick a challenge: pick a prompt: get writing!

There are three caveats:
1) No idol x idol (het, or yuri).  Bromance/sismance is cool.
2) This is geared towards EXO writers, but if you don't want to write about them, be bold and introduce us all to your faves!
3) Keep anything explicitly ual, violent or gory to a minimum (or non-existent).  No breaking AFF rules.  Please, no stories revolving around gratuitous or kink.  See how much you can titillate your audience without.  It's good practice for good writing.
I'm also not fond of horror.

You will also be expected to remain subscribed for the duration of the challenge you pick and to put the challenge banner below and a link back here in your foreword.

There are currently five challenges, but I will likely add more, and I may well add more prompts.  This current version is EXO Lotto themed because the MV is fic inspiring let's be real, but in a few weeks or months new inspiration may strike and I might add other things.  If you have any suggestions for a potential challenge you'd like to see, let me know!

I hosted the Tender Rose writing competition from Oct '15 – Aug '16 in collaboration with StarCross and a number of people asked when I'd be launching the next contest.  Many writers and readers found new authors and fantastic stories to follow and for some writers it was what they needed to give them motivation to finish off that first fic or branch out into something new, or write competitively for the first time.  Others were gutted they'd missed out, and a fair number commented that they liked the flexible format and themes of the contest.  I'm hoping to mirror some of that here, but of course, in a newer and more exciting way!

I noticed a number of people signed up for the Long Haul contest in particular, but then lost inspiration or got bogged down in work or gave up and consequently never met the deadline (it happened with the Short Haul and Fast Track categories too), or found themselves unable to meet it when they finally had time, so I thought a challenge that could be more relaxed if you want it to be might be a way to address that for those authors who don't have much time to write.
