It was said that the vampires had once been a peaceful clan, co-existing alonside the humans in harmony. To each their own. Up until the Contagion, persay.

With the combination of the deadly sickness, panic, and paranoia sweeping the empire, a deep and rooted phobia of the cosmos and all things supernatural shook the people to their core and the vampires were branded a scapegoat. Followed by the raw human intuition to dominate and overpower those seen as lesser in their own eyes, this led to their enslavement and the humans used their celestial strengths and abilities to their advantage. By focusing on the insane bloodlust that all vampires possess, the main purpose of these personal servants among the elites are to smite those who question the aristocrats' unfair rule and criminals who defy the law.

And so, it was decreed by The High Family that all belonging to the vampire race be captured and made identifiable with a collar wrapping tight around the throat, rigged with a silver stake so that if removed, the individual would be killed instantly; a threat to keep the creatures under their control.
