Title: You've Got to be Kidding Me. Author Note: A SunYeon AU I made on a whim but ended up having so much fun writing. They are slightly ooc to make things more interesting.   That was the third time in a row and Lee Soonkyu was starting to get annoyed. At noon, a short – okay, maybe they’re similar height-wise, but she wouldn’t admit that the stranger might be taller – raven-haired woman would come into the bakery/café and take a deep breath then walk back out as if there was no witness to such rudeness. Granted, there were only four tables in Sun Buns, but the place wasn’t that small!   The fourth time in a row, Soonkyu was serving a coffee-to-go for a customer and was this close to hurling it to the woman when she came in and took a deep breath before walking back out. The blonde promised on behalf of her game consoles that the next time would be the last.   Unfortunately, Soonkyu missed the ‘next time’. After coming back from a short bathroom break, Chorong who was manning the cashier at the time said that the exact same woman did the exact same thing right in front of her and walked out before she could even offer her some fresh pastry. Soonkyu had never been more adamant to take action ever since Nintendo announced that the pre-order for the newest gaming console was open.   The next day, she made sure that she would be ready to confront the woman. She came early, prepare the cashier, gradually reload the display case with fresh-baked bread and cakes, as well as took a quick break before the supposed timing.   Right when the clock finally twelve, she could see the woman walking toward the bakery. Straightening up her dark brown waitress uniform, Soonkyu took a deep breath and put her game face on – she was ready.   As expected, the woman came in and took a long, deep breath. She smiled in content and Soonkyu was close to canceling her plan solely on how cute she looked. The last five days reminded her that she needed to confront her, and she was about to do so, until their eyes met.   “Do you… serve cream with your coffee?” she asked after a moment of silence.   Her voice was deep with a hint of rasp, onyx eyes staring deep–   “Uh yeah, we do,” Soonkyu immediately answered before her mind went haywire due to the sheer attractiveness of the stranger now that she could get a good look at her face.   The woman nodded and walked by her.   Soonkyu swore she smelled like mint and fragrant aromatics, almost like sea water.   Again, she should learn to not let her mind wander when she’s on the clock. She followed the woman to her table – she picked one by the window – and handed her a drink menu.   “Coffee with cream and milk,” the woman said, not even a glance at the menu.   “Okay,” Soonkyu tapped on the order tablet, ignoring the rudeness, “do you want some pastries–“   “Two croissants; freshest ones.”   Again, rude. She’s a paying customer, so Soonkyu forced a smile and walked away with the menu, promising that the order would come out soon.   Less than five minutes later, Soonkyu put a plate of warm croissants and the coffee down along with the cream and milk. She was about to let the woman enjoy the coffee when she suddenly said, “What’s this?”   “Coffee with cream and milk?” Soonkyu answered, 100% sure that it was exactly what the woman ordered.   “I expected the cream and milk to be in the coffee.”   Soonkyu didn’t understand what the woman was trying to point out. “Uh yes, it will. You just need to put the cream and milk there,” she pointed at the coffee.   “If I wanted to add cream and milk by myself, I would’ve made it myself. I’m paying for this, so why do I have to do all the hard work?”   Okay, crazy, calm down. “I’m sorry for the inconvenience, Miss. Shall I pour the milk and cream for you?”   “And mess up a good cup of coffee? I’ll do it myself, thanks.”   Without another word, the woman poured a good amount of milk and cream that Soonkyu’s jaw dropped. The liquid almost overflowed the cup, to the point that it was impossible not to spill while stirring them.   “Is it also a part of your job to stay here while I’m enjoying my coffee?”   The woman’s eyes were on her that Soonkyu quickly apologized and left. Once she arrived at the counter, she glanced back at the woman, who was engrossed in her phone. From her point of view, she could see her style: black cardigan over a grey shirt with matching black skinny jeans. Soonkyu scoffed, thinking that if that choice of clothing defines her as a person then her soul must be just as bleak.   What she wouldn’t admit was that choice of clothing looked attractive as .   #   Sunday came and Soonkyu was content. Although she would be busy manning the cashier – Sunday meant more pastry purchase – her shift would end at noon and she could spend the rest of the day with her Nintendo Switch. The best part of the day? The bakery scent-sniffing weirdo/sociopath wouldn’t ruin her day, especially not before she’s gone on a twelve-hour gaming marathon. She found two more things about the weirdo/sociopath: one, her name was Kim Taeyeon, or at least that's what her credit card said; and two, although she gave a hefty tip, Kim Taeyeon just had too much crazy wrapped in a gorgeous casing.   Lady Luck wasn't on her side. It had only been one hour past her shift when the only person she wished wouldn't come came in, wearing a plain white shirt, knee-length khaki shorts, and black flip-flops.   You’ve got to be kidding me, she thought when Kim Taeyeon did the same thing – taking a deep breath and smiled in content. She then walked to the table she picked the day prior, followed by Chorong who was on waitress duty.   At least I won't have to wait on her, she thought while cheerfully greeting a middle-aged man who just came in.   “Um, Unnie?” Chorong nudged her.   “Hmm?” Soonkyu hummed while punching in the order for a baguette.   “The customer on table 3 asked for you.”   “Me? Why?”   “She said she's looking for a short, blonde waitress in a ponytail who served her a cup of bad coffee yesterday.”   “She said what?!” Soonkyu harsh-whispered, almost crushing the fresh baguette in her hold.   “That's what she said, Unnie,” Chorong meekly said, knowing full well of what transpired the day prior.   “Here's your baguette Sir, have a good Sunday!” Soonkyu smiled to the man, dropping the sweet smile once the man was out the door, “She poured a god-forsaken amount of cream and milk into a perfectly good coffee, yet she said I served her bad coffee?”   Chorong tailed on Soonkyu, who harshly snatched the order tablet from Chorong and stomped to the sociopath (it's official now), “I know she’s a horrible person, but she's still a customer, Unnie!”   Soonkyu almost felt bad for the younger woman who desperately tried to remind her, but she was already raged that her supposedly-perfect day was potentially ruined before it even began. The reminder didn't go on bad ears since she took a deep breath before making her way toward the woman who had her eyes on the sidewalk outside, obviously looked bored.   “Good morning. You were asking for me?” Soonkyu tried to put on a warm smile, but due to her boiling anger the corners of twitched and it looked awkward instead.   The supposedly-Kim Taeyeon wasn't the least interested as she just sighed and said, “Coffee with cream and milk.”   Soonkyu's smile disappeared. AGAIN? “May I interest you in our Vanilla Latte? We make it to order,” she offered with another smile.   This time, their eyes met as Kim Taeyeon said, in the most annoying, indifferent tone Sunny had ever heard, “No.”   She only said no and I already want to smack that cute face on this table– “Coffee with cream and milk it is,” Soonkyu tapped on the tablet, desperately trying to not look annoyed, “Do you want fresh pastries to go with your coffee?”   “Croissants,” Kim Taeyeon pointed.   “Your order will come right up,” Soonkyu said, dismissing the fact that Kim Taeyeon indeed glanced her way.   #   Soonkyu had just finished her Sunday shift, her mood to hurry home and binge-play was gone. While stuffing her waitress uniform to her backpack, she kept replaying what happened just two hours prior.   Kim Taeyeon finished her coffee and croissants earlier than before, awkwardly queuing for the cashier. When it was her turn, Soonkyu pulled a strained smile, knowing full well that she would complain again.   Contrary to her expectation, the woman just nodded and gave her a credit card to pay with. In a heartbeat, Soonkyu processed the payment and returned the card, which she noticed was still owned by Kim Taeyeon. Unless she stole the credit card, then the weirdo/sociopath's name was true as it said on the card.   “The coffee…” Kim Taeyeon said when she had the card back.   Soonkyu knew she was screwed. Instead of serving the coffee with cream and milk (and poured them in the coffee) she served a cup of fresh Vanilla Latte. Albeit a little pricier than a regular coffee with cream and milk, it was nowhere near what was ordered. She was ready for another complaint when Kim Taeyeon surprisingly said,   “…it was good.”   With a somewhat friendly smile.   That day Soonkyu realized that Kim Taeyeon wasn't a pretentious coffee snob that she thought she was. She's just an annoying idiot with a cute smile.   With a huff, Soonkyu closed her locker, ready to leave the bakery with her handheld game in hand. She bid Chorong goodbye and made her way back home, mind constantly replaying the dorky smile that Kim Taeyeon had, completely forgetting about playing the handheld game.   #   It’s funny how wrong you could be about someone. You thought you knew people, but then the bastard would turn things around and proof you wrong.   At least that’s what Lee Soonkyu thought of Kim Taeyeon.   The weirdo/sociopath turned somewhat friendly customer at the end of second coffee transaction proved to be an annoying teenager of a customer.   Taeyeon had been visiting Sun Buns every day to buy vanilla latte and croissants. It sounded like a happy ending since she had stopped sniffing the bakery smell and left like the weirdo she was and bought something like a normal person, but she had resorted to annoying Soonkyu instead.   Taeyeon would always ask for Soonkyu to be her waitress, and as much as the latter was glad that the hefty tips she got were enough to buy her more games, the mental stress was just too damn much.   On Monday Taeyeon ordered a vanilla latte, specifically asking for the same thing she had the day prior. At the cashier, she complained to Soonkyu that the latte had too much vanilla. The next day, with the same order, she said the croissants only tasted like butter, when she herself used the whole packet of butter for her croissants behind Soonkyu’s back. Of course, like the bastard that she was, she complained to the waitress about it.   On Wednesday when Taeyeon ordered a latte art on her coffee, even went as far as showing her the picture of an intricate latte art that she found on the internet, Soonkyu had had enough.   “Miss Kim,” Soonkyu leaned closer so the other customers couldn’t see her expression, “I can’t make that for you. I’m a waitress, not a barista.”   Taeyeon just blinked, then tapped something on her phone. Soonkyu rolled her eyes, knowing full well that she was ignored.   “Okay, you can’t just–whoa!“ She was stopped short when Taeyeon shoved her phone screen to her face. She had to step away to read what was there, which was apparently a definition of a barista. “Why are you showing me this?”   “A barista is someone who serves in a coffee bar. You are working in a coffee bar, and you serve me coffee. That makes you a barista.”   Oh you have got to be kidding me, Soonkyu palmed her face. “Miss Kim, this is a bakery. We serve coffee with our pastries, that doesn’t make us a coffee bar!”   Taeyeon blinked when Soonkyu glared, the latter obviously looking frustrated. “So you can’t make me bunny foam on my latte?” she asked.   “I can’t! And I don’t know why you always come here at noon, choosing me as your waitress just to annoy me, but I can’t do anything about that because you're a customer and I get to buy the newest Mario Kart game from your tips!”   By the end of her tirade, Soonkyu was huffing. At least she held herself back from screaming to Taeyeon, whom she thought was taken aback by the way she was looking at her with large eyes. “Now that we’ve established that,” she spoke with her normal tone, “I’ll get you your vanilla latte and croissants.”   Taeyeon nodded, eyes down to the table and not meeting Soonkyu’s as usual.   With that, the waitress left, smirking in victory. Had she known that harsh-whispering was enough to make Kim Taeyeon stop with her crap, Soonkyu would have done it sooner.   *   It only took Taeyeon a few minutes to pay and leave the bakery, right when Soonkyu had to run to the storage room. When she returned, Chorong passed her a piece of paper.   “What’s this?”   “Miss Kim said this is for you.”   Wary that it might be another way to annoy her, Soonkyu took a peek of the usual table. Indeed, the table was empty, indicating that Taeyeon had paid for her coffee and left. She then opened the piece of folded paper and found an interesting doodle of what looked like black and white Mario, with a scribble of words under it:   I like Mario Kart too KTY   “Oh that’s a cute drawing!”   Soonkyu almost punched the person beside her in reflex, who just happened to be Chorong. She was about to reprimand Chorong but changed her mind when she saw how similarly the young waitress looked to Taeyeon when she smiled.   She was supposed to hate Kim Taeyeon, not get flustered at the sight of her doppelganger!   #   Now that she had a reason to start a small talk with Kim Taeyeon, Soonkyu was looking forward to talking to the woman, maybe apologize for her rudeness. She was, after all, a paying customer who contributed a lot to her game collection.   Unfortunately for her, there was no Kim Taeyeon around for the rest of the week. Soonkyu even took the initiative to work full day that Sunday, thinking that maybe the raven-haired woman would come by later in the afternoon. To her dismay, there was no sight of Taeyeon.   Soonkyu then realized that she had hung up on her life just because Kim Taeyeon wasn’t around anymore. Heck, she should be happy! There was no annoying weirdo coming by at noon to mess up her day with vanilla latte and croissants. Granted, she had to work harder to make up for the tips that Taeyeon left, but at least she could somewhat enjoying waiting on the table like usual.   Which was why she agreed to go clubbing with her college friend, Hyoyeon, the night before she would have a leave for the rest of the weekend.   “Wait, did you say yes?” Hyoyeon confirmed with wide eyes, spilling some mocha latte on the counter.   “You don’t have to be so surprised,” Soonkyu pouted, cleaning the spill with the rag under the cashier.   “Can you blame me? You used to blow me off for your Nintendo, Plaything–“   “It’s called PlayStation.”   “–or whatever it is you’re playing these days. I’m starting to expect your rejection, to be honest.”   Soonkyu sighed. “Sorry, Hyo. You know I’ve been busy working to pay off for my Switch.”   “You’re still paying for that thing?”   “…I owed my sister some money to get one with custom-made skins.”   “And they say I’m bad with money!”   In hindsight, maybe it was a good thing to go out and enjoy a Saturday night with Hyoyeon. She might have to stay sober enough to order an Uber home, but at least an evening clubbing with the pink-haired woman was a guaranteed good time.   Therefore, that night Soonkyu picked a silver dress with spaghetti straps that went to her thigh. She applied some clubbing make up to accentuate her eyes and lips, even gave some volume and wave to the ends of her long blonde hair. By the time she was done, Hyoyeon had arrived. For a final touch, she sprayed some perfume before grabbing a small clutch and stuffed her wallet and phone there before running to meet Hyoyeon, who had invited some her friends as well.   It was a quarter past ten when the group arrived in GG, easily passing security due to it being Girls Night. The place was packed with girls and less number of boys, but that didn’t stop Tiffany, one of Hyoyeon’s friends who came from America, to call for some tequila shots.   “Tequila shots? This early?” Soonkyu shouted amidst the blaring music sounds to Hyoyeon’s ear.   “It’s okay, she said she’s paying for them!”   Never in her life did Soonkyu would turn down free drink, especially when she’s sober enough to accept them. That was why when the girls each grabbed a shot glass, she followed them, even made a toast although she couldn’t really hear what Tiffany was toasting for. The taste of tequila shot burned that she grabbed a lemon slice to ease it. It only took Hyoyeon a couple seconds to grab her wrist and drag her to the dance floor.   Soonkyu didn’t fight it, even went as far moving her body against Hyoyeon to the thump of the bass. Around her people were lost in the loud music as they sway to the rhythm. It was both exhilarating and intoxicating, like a drug went through her system. But the music was oh so good that Soonkyu just let herself loose. And she did just that.   #   Soonkyu didn’t realize how long she was on the dance floor, but when felt parched, she signaled Hyoyeon that she’s going to grab a drink from the bar. Her friend barely understood what she meant and continued dancing like a madwoman.   “One on the Beach!” Soonkyu ordered when the barten
