Chanyeol: Will You Be Ruined?

Call to the Sea

Chanyeol awoke the next morning at the same time the sun was first rising, which wasn't entirely unusual for him, but it was always unappreciated that he could almost never sleep past sunrise. It doesn't matter much because he was already awake and there wasn't much he could do about it now.

Chanyeol often went up to the main deck and observed the ocean from there. He liked the way the spray from the water gently hit his skin, creating a small burst of cold to flow through him until the sun warmed him up. It was a perfect way to start the day.

Today, however, he found that staring out into the seemingly endless water wasn't bringing him as much comfort as it normally would. He couldn't help but growl as he stepped down from the crate he'd been standing on. I need some food. Can't wait til breakfast. Chanyeol thought. He turned his back to the rising sun and began walking towards the dining hall. Chanyeol heard voices, which was fairly rare for this early in the morning. Chanyeol put on a smile to hide the agitation that was lingering under his skin and was just about to approach the people walking from the dining hall when he heard a both unfamiliar yet also very familiar voice. “But seriously, this boat is huge! Like looking at it from the outside you can it's pretty big, but once you're inside it's like a whole different thing. This is awesome…”

Jongin. It was Jongin speaking. Chanyeol remained where he was, hiding behind a wall. He turned his head just enough to hear better, even though his conscious told him he shouldn't. He decided it was his boat so why not? “I know!” Mark? “I thought the same thing at first too. I got a different view than you did though. Being on another ship this one is terrifying.”

Chanyeol heard what sound a giggle coming from Jongin. He inhaled a sharp breath and listened more. It was all just friendly sounding chatter, but to Chanyeol it was too friendly. He listened further to the sound their steps made, they were heading towards the rooms. Why, in the , are they going towards, the rooms. Chanyeol wanted to remain calm. As calm as he could, but there was an undeniable anger that made a home inside him. He nearly burst when he heard Mark and Jongin laugh loudly and then shush each other only to laugh more. He growled as he just about stormed towards the rooms. He became even more fiercely angry when he watched them both enter Mark’s room together and shut the door.

Chanyeol was damn near kicking that door down when he heard the sound of another door opening and then clicking shut. Chanyeol turned to see Baekhyun sneaking out of Sehun's room. When Baekhyun noticed the other staring he approached him. “What are you doing?” Baekhyun asked.

“I could ask you the same thing.” Chanyeol replied, his tone giving away to the anger settling within him. “You're still doing this?”

Chanyeol nodded towards Sehun's now closed door. Baekhyun sighed as he buttoned the last two buttons on his shirt, clearly annoyed. He opened his mouth as if to retort Chanyeol’s words, but he only sighed some more and looked down. “What are you even doing with the kid? Hit and run, then hit again? What are you going to do when he confesses his love to you or something?”

“He won't. We've talked about it, he knows this-whatever it is-is as far as we'll get.”

“Then what will you do when he confesses his love for someone else?”

“Does it matter?”

“Maybe. It all depends on how you'll feel.”

“I'm not in love, neither is he. With anyone. It doesn't matter. But you my friend,” Baekhyun changed his voice from almost angry to that annoying teasing sounding one. “You have become a stalker haven't you?”

Chanyeol stutters over his words and realizes that he's still standing in front of Mark's door. Also, wait a second, he's on a mission to do...something. “I see.” Baekhyun said in response to Chanyeol's silence.

“I'm not a stalker.” Chanyeol quickly said.

“You have no claim to the new kid. They seem to get along well, you've probably got no chance. Maybe you should just let it go Chan-Chan.”

Without another word Baekhyun was gone faster than Chanyeol could reply.

Chanyeol turned back towards Mark’s door. He stared at it for a few more moments. Most of his anger had fizzled out into another feeling Chanyeol couldn't describe. He tried to wipe the emotion from his mind as he his heel and began walking back up towards the main deck. Maybe the ocean would make him feel better now.

***

Later that morning after everyone on the ship was awake (except for Yugyeom and Bambam, but Chanyeol surmised they were in fact up, just doing other activities), Kyungsoo began making breakfast. Chanyeol made his way towards the dining hall (and the amazing bacon smell) after everyone else. Chanyeol scanned the room, as he often did in the mornings, as he enjoyed the view of his crew all happy and together. It was a pleasant way to begin his day.

As Chanyeol looked at everyone he made note of the usually unusual things. Sehun looked more tired than he normally did, Baekhyun's fault no doubt. Kyungsoo seemed more annoyed with Yugyeom and Bambam when they finally came bounding into the room, probably from their late night activities that had to take place in Kyungsoo’s room so Baekhyun could “spend time” in Sehun’s. Junior and JB both seemed to be a little less like their normal stone-faced and proper selves, laughing as the three youngest on board began arguing over something Chanyeol couldn't hear. Jackson wasn't laughing and smiling along with Chen and Xiumin about whatever stupid thing Chen had done now. In fact, Chanyeol noticed Jackson’s gaze was fixed on something in the corner of the room. As he followed Jackson’s line of sight, he ended up looking directly at Mark and Jongin, clinging to each other and smiling like fools.

Chanyeol felt that anger from earlier build up in him again just as suddenly as it did before. He watched as Mark whispered something into Jongin’s ear, which made Jongin erupt into a fit of laughter. Chanyeol couldn't stand to see them together like that. Jongin wasn't for anyone else to touch or make smile. That was meant to be saved for Chanyeol, he was stupid thinking these feelings would go away, he regretted everything he’d decided yesterday. Chanyeol wanted to take it all back, wanted to be the one laughing with Jongin until the sunrise and be the one Jongin was leaning on shyly as others spoke to him. Chanyeol wanted Jongin.

He was just about to march over there and tell Mark to go draw a map or something, when Chanyeol felt a hand on his shoulder, pulling him back. Chanyeol had to keep his anger inside as he turned around to see who was ing up his plan. “Lay? What do you want? I've got something I have to do.”

Chanyeol turned away from Lay again, but was immediately pulled back to face him. He waited a few seconds for Lay to speak, but the elder simply stated disapprovingly at Chanyeol. Chanyeol let out a loud sigh. “What?” he snapped.

“If you're thinking you have feelings for Jongin, stop thinking that.” Lay nearly growled back.

Chanyeol was slightly taken aback by his tone of voice, but ultimately decided that it didn't matter because he was still angry. “Why in hell would I do that?”

“You're not good for him.”

“Says who?”

“Says me.”

Chanyeol tried to keep the angry, intimidating expression on his face as he pulled his arm away, however he probably just looked stupid and confused. “He's innocent.” Lay said.

“How do you know?” Chanyeol asked.

“I can tell, it's my thing remember? You'll ruin him so quickly once he finds out who you are.”

“Who I was. As in past tense. Meaning I'm not that person anymore.”

“You can't be a murderer and thief who enjoyed all the terrible things he did and expect all that to just go away. You may have changed, but underneath you're still the dreaded captain of the feared Black Pearl.”

“But-”

“You're feared because no one knows what you look like because no one was left alive to tell such a thing, because when prisoners were taken onto the Black Pearl they were tortured and then tossed into the ocean, because there was a time when the crew of the Black Pearl would come on land just to drink and and then burn villages to the ground.”

“We were different then. The crew is different, we've all changed.”

“Not all of us.”

They are gone Yixing. Do not bring them up again.” Chanyeol snarled.

“Secrets. Lies. Death, destruction, Chanyeol, do you really want to unload all of that onto the boy? He's happy now and he'd continue to be happy if you stayed away from him.”

Lay left just then, smiling as he greeted the others on board. Chanyeol simply watched as anger pooled in his stomach. He wanted to run to Jongin and confess everything he felt inside him (even though he didn't know what it was) now that he saw him smiling so cutely at Mark once again. Chanyeol wished nothing more than to pull Jongin away and hold him tightly in his arms until Chanyeol felt better. He wanted to ignore everything Lay had just said, but he couldn't.

He couldn't stop his mind from wandering back to his conversation with Baekhyun earlier in the day. ‘Maybe you should let it go’ He had said. Chanyeol thought nothing of it then, but perhaps Baekhyun was trying to say what Lay said just in his own way. ‘You'll ruin him.’ ‘You're no good for him.’ You should just let it go.’ ‘Stop thinking it.’ Chanyeol couldn't help but think they were right.

He hadn't even gotten to get his breakfast before he decided he wasn't hungry.
