Chapter 36

You are My Destiny

Her stomach growled at the worst moments in the history of worst moments a stomach could growl in and if it could hear her, she would give it such a harsh talking to for interrupting at the crucial moments.

Luhan had just reached his third favorite fantasy about her – something about her in the Survey Corps uniform, having just returned from killing a number of titans while Luhan single-handedly beat the Colossal and they were in the middle of reaffirming life when her stomach growled.

Like how stupid could it get? Didn't it realize she was in the middle of something very important… like kissing him desperately because the images he'd shown were really intense and she wanted to reaffirm life. Lots and lots of reaffirmation.

Her ill-timed stomach growling ruined the entire mood because of course Luhan had to be the responsible mate and bring food for her, despite her insistence that she could totally go hungry, just finish the fantasy please. But he up and left and she had no one to blame but her own stomach.

She was giving it a severe talking to – and realizing that damn, she really was hungry, having not eaten anything since the cotton candy – when there was a knock on the door and Luhan peeked inside. 'I ordered takeaway, that okay?'

She nodded, not really comprehending what he said because his lips moved most distractingly and she needed to feel them.

He laughed when she pounced on him, yanking him in for a kiss. He'd been gone far too long and she'd missed snuggling with him and hugging him and kissing him and doing all those things she did only with Luhan and she needed him to know that.

Neither of them realized just how much time had passed as they got over-eager again and the car swung around dangerously when Luhan enthusiastically jumped inside to kiss her properly; at this point, it could plummet from the sky and they still wouldn't care.

But apparently, Luhan's cellphone was as ill-mannered as her stomach because just when they were getting to the good parts, it rang shrilly, jarring them. She frowned, not wanting to loosen her hold around him because she liked him exactly where he was – between her arms – thank you very much.

He didn't look any happier at being interrupted either but straightened with a sigh. 'Our food is here.'

Mei didn't want to let go, so she didn't, clinging to him as he tried to straighten and step outside. 'Come on Mei,' he half-laughed, half-groaned when she nuzzled his neck, 'Our food will get cold.'

''s okay,' she mumbled before lightly tracing her lips upwards and making him shiver, 'I like cold food.'

'No, you hate it,' He tilted his head back obligingly and let her pepper kisses all the way up to his jaw before straightening and pecking , 'Come on, we can't keep him waiting.'

Reluctantly, she moved from her perch – on his thighs – and stood on wobbly legs. A moment later, she realized it wasn't only her legs that were wobbling but also the car they were in – it was swinging to and fro, no doubt a result of their enthusiasm.

'Who's him?' she asked after a few moments when her dazed mind finally started working.

'Kai,' Luhan smiled at her face, at the slowly blinking eyes which were fixed on his face and how they tracked the movement of his lips.

'Mmm…' she nodded uncomprehendingly before her eyes widened. 'Why's Kai here?'

Luhan laughed because Mei was so adorable, all dazed and distracted because of him. 'Because,' he chuckled, flicking her nose which she scrunched adorably in response, 'the takeaway place doesn't deliver this far. I asked Kai to bring it here.'

She nodded in understanding. 'Then tell him to leave it outside, we'll take it.'

'Mei…' Luhan began.

'Luhan,' she pouted, tangling her arms around his neck.

'Come on babe,' he breathed, quite tempted to let her have her way; surely his Shadow could take a hint and leave things outside?

His cellphone pinged, indicating a message. From Kai.

Don't you dare, it read.

He laughed, feeling his Shadow's irritation and amusement. It had been a while since Kai had been so light-hearted around him or Mei. Luhan hadn't pushed Kai for anything after seeing him struggle so much with Tiffany but he seemed to have recovered a lot by now. He was still prone to acting more concerned and possessive about Mei than any of the other Legends but his feelings were now predominantly platonic, unlike before.

Luhan sincerely hoped his Shadow would get over his mate completely sooner rather than later because aside from the guilt he felt for having taking away his brother's only chance at happiness, it was painful to see him sad and it worried him that Kai would fall victim to the same hopelessness Kris had.

It seemed, however, that his fears were unfounded because other than sincere amusement and mild irritation at being kept waiting, Luhan didn't get anything else from Kai. Not now and not earlier when he'd come to pick him up, nor when he'd seen Mei hug the breath out of Luhan.

Stop laughing and come out, this stuff is heavy!!! What do you wanna feed, an army?

Laughing again at his text, Luhan pried Mei's arm off from around him. 'Wanna come along?' He asked before raking his eyes down her disheveled figure. 'On second thought, just stay here, I'll be back in a moment.'

Mei pouted but she couldn't fault him because she was far from decent, with her hair all mussed and her clothes more than just ruffled – her skirt had hiked up her thighs, revealing the creamy expanse and the shirt was slipping off her shoulders, the buttons undone. And neither Mei, nor Luhan were in any mood to straighten that up any time soon.

Pecking her lips again, he stepped outside, raking his fingers through his hair to give it a semblance of style and straightening his own shirt – he wasn’t the only one with wandering hands around here, after all.

Mei watched him leave and sighed. Her heart felt full with contentment and joy. To have her husband, her mate, back with her, to feel the familiar planes of his body underneath her fingertips, to kiss him and hold him and never let go… it felt like she'd found everything she ever wanted in her life.

Swallowing, feeling unreasonably sentimental all of a sudden, she sat up and straightened her appearance, tucking her shirt back in and pulling the skirt down – she didn't bother with the buttons because her fingers were still a little trembly and she felt a bit woozy from their previous activities.

Sighing, a stupid smile on her face, she slumped back against the chair to wait for Luhan. It was late now, probably after midnight and here she was, in an empty car of an empty Ferris wheel in an empty amusement park. And she didn’t care because as long as her husband was with her…

A soft sigh escaped her lips and she closed her eyes. And now, her best friends knew about her marriage as well and Kai was only happy for her, genuinely so. Could life get any better?

Her stomach growled again, clamping suddenly and she sighed. Okay, so a little food would be a great improvement right about now.

Speaking of, what was taking Luhan so long? Surely Kai hadn't teleported too far from here, right?

She'd just decided to peek outside – and maybe go and say hello to Kai and thank him because he'd been such a super-duper sweetheart – when there was movement right outside the car.

She brightened. 'Luhan?'

There was no answer but she waited, smiling, for him to throw open the door. Her stomach growled again and watered at the thought of the delicious aroma of yummy fast food filling the small car. Good food and Luhan, best combination ever.

The door still didn't open and her smile faltered. Why wasn't he opening the door? Better yet, was he even there? The windows in the car might be small and the glass wasn't exactly frosted but it wasn't transparent either, so maybe she'd been mistaken. Strange, but she'd been sure she'd heard movement… footsteps.

Suddenly a bit worried, she shifted closer to the door, hand landing on the knob to twist and throw it open. 'Luhan?' she called again, softer this time.

There was movement again and this time, she saw a silhouette. Of a man. She relaxed, turning the knob to push it open. 'What took you so…'

Something hit the door with enough force to throw her back and she let out an involuntary shriek as she landed on the car's floor as it swung around wildly. There was an ominous creaking sound and the car shifted suddenly as she tried to sit up.

Mei grabbed the seats on either side for balance and slowly knelt up. Maybe it was just her imagination but the car felt like it was tilted. As she sat up, the car shifted again and she yelped, grabbing on the chair tightly.

No, not her imagination. The car was definitely tilted – like one of the metal hoops holding it in place had broken and…

Something – or someone – hit the car again and it swung precariously, making her fall back and smack her head hard against the metal wall. The car was now almost vertical now, with the window beneath her feet and the door above her head.

Oh god, no please no… she needed to get out. She was at the bottom most car, the fall wouldn't be too harmful but still, she didn't like the thought of falling. Slowly, she reached out and grabbed the knob, twisting it around and putting as much force as could in her arm to throw it open.

It straightened slowly – she hadn't dared jump for fear the car would fall – and for a moment, it felt like the door would swing back shut but then, it swayed in the other direction before crashing resoundingly on the other side.

Moonlight spilled inside and it was momentarily blinding… until something blocked it.

A man stood at the platform, peering down at her. There was something eerily familiar about him, about the way he tilted his head as if regarding her curiously. Except…

Except the eyes which were a dull red she'd only ever seen in her worst nightmares. The nightmares which still haunted her at times, which made her curl up in a ball and only Luhan's soothing hand running up and down her back calmed her down.

The eyes stared down at her and her voice got lost in as she stared up, fear building rapidly inside her. No, this couldn’t be happening. She was awake right now, wasn't she?

She pinched herself and it hurt like hell, so yeah definitely not a dream.

The man smiled and it was the creepiest thing she'd ever seen. With his face thrown in shadow, the moonlight lighting up his hair from behind, the only thing that was visible of his features was his teeth, which glinted brightly and those terrible eyes which were the color of clotted blood and liberally flecked with black which seemed to seep out of his eyes and spill right down to his face and neck and even further…

His hand, when he extended his arm was covered in black tattoos and the design seemed eerily familiar, a geometric shape that made chills run down her spine. A single black claw, like the ones she'd seen when the Legends had been fighting with the creatures from Abyss, emerged from one finger followed by the loud sound of whirring machines and the car jostled and swung as the Ferris wheel erupted into action.

Thunder suddenly rumbled through the sky as it darkened, echoing loudly in the confined space inside the car and she whimpered, burying her head against the car seat, tightly clutching the leathery cushions before looking down.

She wished she hadn't.

The window was beneath her feet and she could see exactly how up high she was, the box car hanging from the single metal hoop, see miles and miles of the amusement park spread out below her as the car rose higher and higher until she was at the top.

The man had been standing by the control box, black amorphous smoke surrounding him like a halo before it converged into a single black claw that extended upwards in a thin line, lightning fast, and she instinctively closed her eyes because it seemed directed towards her.

There was the ominous sound of something sharp striking against metal and the car jolted again, swinging wildly enough to make her lose her hold. She fell down and through the ringing inside her head – she'd hit it against the metal chair – she heard the sound of metal tearing.

Her frightened gaze snapped upwards, towards that metal hoop which had been holding the car. Had been. It was breaking, the metal seemingly sawed through and even as she watched, that black claw struck again and before her eyes, the chain broke.

Her scream echoed around the empty expanse of the amusement park as she plummeted towards the ground, towards certain death.

……………………………………….

'MEI!!!!' Luhan barely had time to comprehend that it was her scream, dropping everything Kai had brought when his Shadow grabbed his hand and they teleported, emerging in front of the Ferris wheel moments later.

Almost too late.

Luhan's heart froze the moment he saw the metal box falling downwards, so fast it was hard to keep track of. The scream was coming from the box.

Mei…

Instinct kicked in, to save his mate and he threw up his hands, hitting the metal box with a soft telekinetic blow. It slowed the descent marginally but didn't stop it entirely. He could feel his palms sweating as panic tried to overwhelm him. Telekinesis was primarily meant to move things, not stop them – that wasn't his area of expertise. He could use telekinesis to lift things up but the laws of physics stayed in action as he did. If he used his telekinesis on the car, it would only deflect its path but not stop it and it would still fall down.

He could erect a single, thick shield at the bottom… but dammit, with the force it was plummeting with, the car would shatter on impact, flatten under the force of gravity. His best bet was using these soft telekinetic blows to make the car bounce upwards, like hitting the shuttle with the racket to keep it in the air and slowly lowering it.

He did exactly that, wincing every time his hit caused the box to rise upwards before it fell down again. He could feel Mei's fear and panic through their link, she was scared, terrified and each jolt terrified her even more. Dammit, what the hell…?

In his panic, he didn't even realize when his Shadow vanished but there was a familiar zipping sound and then, the box stopped midair.

Luhan stared at it for a moment before whirling around. Kai was bent over, panting, and Tao who was, no doubt, responsible for stopping her mid-flight. Beside him, Kris, Suho and D.O were present. None looked too good, probably because they didn't have time to brace themselves before they were teleported here.

Tao nodded towards the box. 'You can move it now.'

Luhan breathed a sigh of relief, feeling his knees weaken and nodded weakly, gesturing with his hand and gently lowering he box towards the floor. The moment it touched the ground, Tao snapped his fingers again and the car was let out of time-freeze.

A second later, Mei tumbled out, panic written all over her face. Luhan ran towards her, catching her before she fell. 'MEI!'

'LUHAN!!' she clutched him tightly, collapsing and sobbing against his chest.

'It's okay,' he whispered, rubbing a hand soothingly up and down her back, 'I got you, I’m here.'

She clung to him tighter and he just wrapped his arms more securely around her, his eyes peeled for danger as the rest of the Legends dispersed to see if there was any danger. Only Suho remained.

'What happened?' He finally asked, feeling Mei settle down.

She was silent for a moment before…

'It was Evil.'

A/N

Happy 5th Anniversary to our boys :3 Yay! I'm feeling both happy and nostalgic because damn, time flies fast. Ah well, I hope the coming years bring success and joy to EXO and make them stronger.

I know I've been a bit irregular lately and I want to apologize for that. Things have been kinda tough for me irl and with everything that's been going on, I felt very creatively - and otherwise - completely burnt out. Try as I might, I couldn't churn up anything and what I did... well, I wasn't satisfied in the least. I told you guys before that this story is partly pre-written. Well, this marks the official last chapter of the pre-written part. I've been trying to progress the story and well... it hasn't worked out too well. So, I'm really sorry for the irregularities, but I'm focusing on getting back into my groove. I can't write if I have nothing left in me, so I'm focusing on getting better. I still have a number of updates left but they'll come slowly. I am not abandoning this or any of my other stories because I put in too much in all of them to just let them go. But it's going to take longer than I anticipated. That's all. I hope you guys still enjoy and read the story and I would really, really appreciate some feedback since I'm feeling a bit lost and that helps ground me.

And now that the serious matters are out of the way, lets go on to the spam :D Yay! Once again, Happy anniversary to EXO and EXO-L!

These boys have given us so much, lets love and support them, no matter the path they choose. EXO, let's love <3

Later :3
