“Joohyun ah…”

“I’m sorry but what now? Please stop talking to me informally like that, Bogum-ssi.”

“… Why are you acting like this? Do you really want to make everything look bad here? Look at me.”

“We have to be on air in 10 minutes, don’t you think it’s a good idea to get back to your room and finish your wardrobe?”

“Look… at… me.”

He is angry now, it is bad. She can sense his anger flooding the room. It cuts her in pieces, choking her, she can not look at him. She just can not.

He comes into her room at Music Bank’s backstage after knocking impatiently. Dal Ja, her personal assistant, immediately gets the atmosphere and excuses herself out of the room. Only Bogum and Irene are left with each other.

His face is full of overflowing emotions, he does not even dress properly, despite the fact that they are about to get on stage and do their jobs. His white shirt is ed at the top and his hair is a mess. He looks unfairly good-looking still, and for a moment she remembers that he is hers. But he should not be anymore.

“We talked about this. Please… just finish our jobs today and I won’t bother you anymore”, she finds it truly hard to speak.

“Are you seriously considering ending this relationship that we have just because of some stupid actions of an idiot!?”, he is holding her shoulders, trying desperately to meet her eyes and she aches at how breathless his voice is.

“Bogum-ah… I’m really tired”, she actually has been feeling sick for days. If she can go home now and totally disappear for 10 years, she will.

Still holding her, he looks the other way for a brief second, closes his eyes, catches a deep breath then fixes his gaze at her again, “What about me? Could you… please, stop whatever thought that you’re having inside your head and just think about how I’m feeling?”

“BUT YOU COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, do you know that!?”, she feels like screaming, and she thinks she just did. The room suddenly falls to complete silence, both of them are immediately taken back by her reaction.

Tears come rolling, and rolling, like a canal collapsing, like a predictable hurricane, like her heart. Too weak and too broken.

She pushes him away and turns around to hide her teary eyes, but he is so much stronger than her. He takes both of her hands and moves in quickly for a tight embrace. More tears, more nameless pain, it does not sound like crying anymore. Her face is totally covered by his shoulder, how can she make a sound or even breathe when he holds her like this? Bogum hugs her as if he is afraid she will be taken away, as if he is terrified of having to confront her darkest fear, as if he will not be able to fix any of this. His hand caresses her hair, her cheek, he whispers heavily words she does not hear properly. She can feel him trying to absorb all of her agony, like he always seems to think he can.

But he will never understand, he just avoids all the facts. That this can not go on, that no matter how much she patches up the black hole inside her memories, she will forever remember all the wheres and all the whens, those horrified incidents.

And for a moment, she can hear her heart shattering on the floor.
