Traces of Him

Description

“Have you been on other dates before?” he asks, casting a glance upon her.

“Yeah, I have. They didn’t turn out well though,” she answers, stuffing her hands into the pockets of her jacket.

“The dates?”

“No, the relationships,” she replies with a bitter laugh. This stops him in his tracks as he abruptly turns to face her. He takes a second to take in her expression, tilting his head slightly. He does this a lot when he has a question floating about on the back of his mind.

“Will we turn out well?” he asks, the seriousness in his tone appearing foreign to her. She lets a few seconds go by as she stares at him. She takes in the fact that he’s biting his lip – something he does whenever he’s nervous. She sees him balancing himself on his toes. She sees his wandering eyes scanning her face for any hint of an answer. A smile begins to pull onto the corners of her lips as she says the three words that puts an end to his misery.

“Yeah, we will.”

Foreword

She has always had the mindset that relationships are meant to make two individuals stronger when together, but not weaker when apart. Even so, she’s often surrounded by couples that don’t seem to portray that idea and more often than not, she finds them silly for ever thinking they would need another human being to make them truly happy. Love is a foreign topic to her. She once cared about what it represents but after many incidences of friends, family members and almost lovers walking out on her, she prefers chasing after her goals instead.

That doesn’t mean she has stopped showing interest in men though. In fact, there are a number of them who have approached her and gained her attention but being one who is an alien to affection, she continuously pushes them away. Though they are patient with her at first, everything has its breaking point. Believe it or not, despite the amount of guys she’s had in her life, none of them have been close to becoming her lover – only almost lovers.

She does not know how to love. She always has her guard up, fearing whoever enters her life is doing it with a hidden agenda. She often says, “I’m fine on my own.”

But one conversation changes everything and she is met with a guy who teaches her the true meaning of love, being fearless and the importance of having another individual by her side.
