Moonbyul wondered how she was supposed to react when the moment she thought would never come… well, did.

Yes, seeing Krystal was the purpose of going to the school reunion, but part of her didn’t believe she would actually see her. Deep inside she thought she had made all the way for nothing, and somehow that made her feel a bit relieved. She wasn’t a fan of confrontations.

But on the other hand, she did want to see her.

She felt very conflicted.

Moonbyul guessed that how she felt didn’t matter anymore, because her old crush was right there, only a few meters away from her. God, she had gotten even more beautiful if that was possible. She couldn’t help but smile slightly at the sound of her laugh.

“Byulyi? Are you okay?”

Solar’s soft voice brought her out of her thoughts. Shaking her head to help herself focus again, she looked at the girl next to her. Solar looked slightly worried, probably not expecting Moonbyul to react like that.

“Yes, sorry, I just… lost myself for a second there.” She grabbed Solar’s wrist to steady herself. “Can we go to the bar? I need another drink.”

“Sure.” With a small smile, Solar complied and both made their way to the counter, asking for two mixed drinks as soon as they got the waiter’s attention. Or more like Solar did it why Moonbyul kept staring at Krystal from the distance.

“Stop doing that, you are looking like a creep.” Solar warned her, slightly amused.

Moonbyul clicked her tongue but looked away. “I can’t help it, she is just so… stunning.”

“Why don’t you go talk to her then?” Solar asked while playing with the straw of her drink with her tongue. The sight distracted Moonbyul for a few seconds before she realized what Solar has said.

“What? Are you crazy? No, no.” Holding her free hand up, Moonbyul shook her head. “There’s no way I’m gonna go over there. Besides, she seems to be having fun dancing with her… boyfriend.” Moonbyul grimaced.

“Why did you come to this reunion then?” Raising an eyebrow, Solar leaned on the bar counter.

“That’s what I’m starting to ask myself.” With a sigh Moonbyul copied Solar. “I do want to talk to her but honestly I don’t know how… She probably doesn’t even remember me.”

Solar nodded, understanding why Moonbyul felt unsure about approaching the girl. Still, she was there to support her and that meant helping her talk to Krystal.

“We could try taking baby steps. Like, maybe dancing over there, see if she notices you… something like that.” Solar suggested.

“I don’t know… what if I make a fool out of myself? What if I fall?”

“Okay, now you are just being pessimistic, that is not going to happen. Besides, you have me, I can guide you if you need it.” Solar bragged making Moonbyul chuckle.

“Oh yeah? I don’t have anything to fear then.” Moonbyul smirked amused.

“Exactly! You really are lucky to have me here, you know? I don’t think you appreciate me enough.” Solar joked, trying to look at least a bit offended.

“Oh c’mon, I appreciate you!” Leaving her drink on the counter, she quickly hugged Solar before she could stop her. She made sure to squeeze her hard until Solar smacked her arm, trying to complain between laughs.

Not planning on letting go, Moonbyul resisted and hugged her even tighter. “Say I appreciate you!”

“Never!”

They were so focused on fooling around that they didn’t notice the couple moving towards them until a feminine voice cleared to catch their attention.

Stopping in the middle of a cackle, Moonbyul tried to regain her composure just in time to see Krystal and her plus one next to them and offering them a friendly smile.

Moonbyul widened her eyes and released Solar immediately.

“Hey, Moon Byulyi, right? I’m Jung Soojung, we had a couple of classes together in high school.”

Still taken by surprise, it took Moonbyul a few seconds to react. Or to say the truth, she reacted because Solar nudged her side with her elbow.

“Yes! Krystal. I mean, Soojung. Yes.” Moonbyul swallowed and mentally chastised herself for being so freaking awkward. “I do… I do remember you.”

If Krystal found her reaction weird –which she probably did- she didn’t comment on it. Instead, she stretched out her hand. Moonbyul took it carefully, shaking it softly.

“It’s nice to see you again.” Krystal smile widened. “And you can call my Krystal if you want.”

Feeling herself blush, Moonbyul couldn’t help but smile. Krystal had soft hands. Like Solar.

Oh. Solar.

She quickly turned to the girl next to her, who stood there with a polite smile but looked a bit uncomfortable, just like the boy next to Krystal.

“Oh, sorry, I forgot…” Moonbyul bit her bottom lip and then touched Solar’s arm.

“This is Solar, my girlfriend.” She introduced.

“Nice to meet you.” Solar said while shaking both Krystal and the boy’s hand.

Krystal then took her turn to introduce her partner for the night. “This is Kai, he’s my boyfriend.”

Moonbyul studied him then. He was tall and well built, but not extremely buff. She hated to admit it but he was very handsome and had a great smile. He looked like the perfect prince next to the perfect princess. They were a visually perfect couple. Ugh.

“We are a bit tired of dancing and we wanted to chill a bit. What if we get a drink and go outside to talk? The air is a bit stuffed here.” Krystal suggested.

“That sounds like a good idea. You two could catch up a bit.” Replied Solar quickly. She knew that Moonbyul would need a little push. “Right, babe?”

Moonbyul looked at Solar and nodded, not trusting her words for now. She still needed a few more minutes to assimilate the situation.

“Great!”

They still hadn’t finished their drinks, so Solar and Moonbyul waited while the couple got theirs before heading towards the outdoor patio.

More people were gathering over there even if the air was cold. There was a pr

Chapter 27: The ending (or better a lack of one) is a bit unfortunate. But it's definitely worth the while to read this story.
The characters are very well portrayed, there's consistency and a solid plot. One of the things I like a lot about Moonsun stories is how mature the characters often are. And this story definitely has that trait.
