Taeyeon was introduced to Changmin by her parents, she was 4 and he was 6.

On her 18th birthday, after Changmin finished his compulsory military service , they were told that they were going to marry each other.

After graduating from Medical School at the age of 26, Taeyeon got engaged to Changmin.

Taeyeon became Changmin’s wife the year after, she was 27 and he was 29.

Their marriage was arranged. They knew about it and couldn’t do anything about it. But what comes after is in their hands.

It was one of those summer garden parties that Mrs. Shim threw to celebrate her birthday, but that year it was extra special because her long time best friend, Mrs. Kim finally came back to Korea.

“Changmin, this is Taeyeon” Mrs. Shim introduced her 6 year old son to the 4 year old little girl who was wearing a pink summer dress. “She is your auntie Kim’s daughter. She’s two years younger than you are. So, you are her oppa. Be a good oppa to her, okay?” she added.

Her son, being the obedient and polite one, nodded his head and smiled.

“Hi Taeyeon.  I’m your Changmin oppa, I’m pleased to meet you” he held out his head for the little girl to take. However, the girl was shy and so she hid behind her mother’s skirt.

Mrs. Kim crouched down and coaxed her daughter, “Taeyeon ah, baby, don’t be shy. Changmin oppa is kind, he doesn’t bite, right Min?” Changmin smiles once more, showing his mismatched eyes. 

“Ok, I’ll leave you two here for now. Take care of my daughter, okay Changmin?” Mrs. Kim bid, Changmin answers with a nod and a smile assuring their mothers.

Taeyeon didn’t fail to notice how Changmin’s eyes were mismatched when he smiled, making Taeyeon snicker.

“Why are you laughing?” Changmin asked, curious as to why Taeyeon snickered. “Your eyes” Taeyeon hesitantly answered earning a raise of Changmin’s eyebrow. “One is smaller than the other” the girl added surprising the little boy. His eyes doubled in size and Taeyeon found no comfort in that so she ran away and was about to hide behind his father. 

Unfortunately Taeyeon stumbled on a rock and hurt her knee. “Taeyeon!” Changmin exclaimed as he saw what happened to the little girl. 

Taeyeon started to cry and Changmin immediately came to her side.

“Taeyeonie, I’m sorry. Why’d you run away?” Changmin apologized while he wiped away Taeyeon’s tears. The little girl continued to cry not answering Changmin’s question.

“Taeyeonie, please stop crying. I’m really sorry"

“it hurts” Taeyeon sobbed after finding comfort in Changmin’s presence. 

"I’ll make the pain go away” Changmin valiantly said

“how?”

“I’ll kiss the pain away”

“what?”

“my mom does that always and it works perfectly”

“really?”

“really”

Changmin kissed Taeyeon’s knee and it gave Taeyeon a warm feeling making her tears stop from falling.

“does it still hurt?” Changmin inquired as he tucked a strand of Taeyeon’s hair behind her ear. The little girl shook her head making the little boy smile proudly. “See, I told you it’ll work!”

“Oh, Taeyeon ah, Changmin ah! What happened?” Mr. Shim asked approaching the two kids who were sitting on the grass together with his friend, Mr. Kim. 

“Dad, I was just showing Taeyeon mom’s magic trick whenever I get hurt. And guess what, it worked. Taeyeon is no longer crying after I kissed her wounded knee”

“Did I hear that right?” Mrs. Kim asked crouching down to level with the two kids. Changmin nods, delighting the two mothers.

“Are you thinking of what I’m thinking?” Mrs. Kim asked facing her best friend. “I think I know what you’re thinking about. And now I think we’ll be able to fulfill our promise to each other way back from college” Mrs. Shim answers with a smile. The two of them then faced their husbands who smiled understanding what their wives were thinking.

“I guess, Changmin will really be my little princess’ prince charming then” announced Mr. Kim. Mr. Shim laughs and extended his hand for a handshake, “it would be my pleasure to be your in-law”

The four adults laughed and rejoiced seeing how their children were interacting with each other while the two kids were just looking up to their parents unaware and innocent of the agreement that would dictate their future.
