Description

When I was a child, Kris was the first person to teach me how to climb a tree. He was the first person to show me what freedom was like. He was the first person who made me feel like it was okay to be myself. He was also the first person who broke my heart, but we were kids then. It didn't matter anymore, I thought, but everything changed when that gorgeous devil of a man came back into my life.

Foreword

I let out a big sigh. My shoes were getting a bit muddy from the wet grass, but I didn’t care.

“Did I really make the right decision,” I mumbled to myself.

I had always been afraid of people leaving me. That day, I couldn’t look him in the face. It was too painful. I ran away, from him, from everything. Should I have stayed?

Suddenly, I hear the crunch of gravel moving under footsteps. I look around, confused as to why there’d be someone else here. Then I gasp. Time stops. For a moment, I thought that my thoughts had just taken physical form. Kris was standing just a couple feet away from me, looking at me dead in the eyes.

I had no idea what on earth to stay, so I just stood there. It had been years since we last saw each other. Man he was tall, he had to be at least 6’3”. I wanted to run to my car and just drive away, but my feet were stuck to the ground. What was the use in running, he’d always be at the back of my mind. I had to face him, whether I liked it or not. He took a couple steps toward me, and I did the same.

“Hey,” He said finally, breaking the icy silence.

“Hey,” I replied. His eyes looked exactly like the day I left, except a little more mature.

“Fancy seeing you here,” He said with a chuckle, “It’s good to see you”

That’s a lie, I wanted to say. I had so many questions, why was he here, why wasn’t he in china for work, why do you still look so god damn handsome, but I just nodded and said, “I was feeling nostalgic”

“Nice thing, knowing you didn’t forget about this place,” He said, his eyes distant.

“I couldn’t forget, even if I tried,” I huffed with a roll of my eyes.

“That’s good,” He said with a small smile.

“I guess,” I replied, letting my gaze fall to the ground.

“Hey, it’s kind of chilly out here,” Kris piped up, “Wanna get some coffee?”

I smiled and nodded my head.
