“Uh, sure. I’ll see you later, then.”

“Yeah, see you then, Y/n.” You heard a beep indicating that the call was over. You nearly screamed into the speaker when he asked you out. He was one of the cutest guys you had ever seen, and out of all the girls he could’ve asked out, it was you he chose.

You looked at the clock and noticed that you had only 3 hours to prep yourself. Widening your eyes, you rushed into the shower to get cleaned up. After you were out, fresh, and dressed, you decided to call your close friend over to help you with your outfit.

“Hello?” you heard a deep voice answer.

“I need your help! I have a date tonight and I don’t know what to wear. Help me, Jaebummie, please?” you begged. You heard him sigh on the other end.

“Fine, but only because you’re my frie-”

“I love you so much, Jaebum! See you in a bit!” you hung up. He took the phone away from his face and closed his eyes at the black screen. If only she knew.

You heard your doorbell ring and flew to the door. When you opened it, you complained, “Jaebum, where have you been? Can’t you tell I am in dire need of help? Now we have less time!”

“Y/n,” he said calmly, “you have more than enough time.”

“You better hope so, because you were late. Now come oooon.” You grabbed his hand and pulled him towards your room. For some reason, blush appeared on both of your faces, but neither of you noticed the other. You’ve held hands before in a friendly manner, why was this different?

You changed into countless outfits, trying them on for yourself and Jaebum to see. Outfit after outfit, Jaebum said the same, ‘you look fine,’ statement to each, but you didn’t buy it. Finally, you tried on one of your favorite dresses and walked in front of Jaebum to show him.

While he was about to say the same ‘I bet you look fine,’ he looked at you, and paused. Before he could say anything, you interrupted his thoughts.

“What’s wrong? Is it okay? Too short, too much showing, or-”

“No!” he denied. You looked at him with surprise, and he corrected himself. “I mean, no, there’s nothing wrong with it. You look, fine, wait no, you look great. Beautiful.”

You blushed at him complimenting, your heart beating 2x faster than it normally would. You shook off your feelings, which you had thought to be temporary.

“I’ll trust you this time! Ah, and thanks for your help Jaebum.” He looked at you, disappointed. Right, I’m helping her get ready for date. With someone else.

“So who’s the date with?”

“Uh, you know that guy in my math class that all the girls think is cute? Yeah, him.” You answered not looking at him, but instead at yourself in the mirror, making tiny fixes.

“Him? Out of all people, him?” His voice rises slightly as he asks.

“Yeah. I don’t see the big problem with it,” you replied nonchalantly, giving him a quick glance.

“Y/n, I’ve heard things about that guy that aren’t good.”

“Such as?” you challenged.

“He doesn’t care about you, he just wants to use you. I have heard about the girls he just leaves after one night.”

“Jaebum, I get that you don’t like him, but I finally have a date with this guy and you want to ruin it for me? Wow, thanks for being a great frie-” You were interrupted by the sound of knocking on your door. “I gotta go. See you soon, maybe.”

Jaebum ran his fingers through his hair, feeling stupid for allowing you to go on a date with a jerk. He gave up on worrying and decided that he would see you later and ask.

The moment you got in the car to the dinner he treated you out to all felt like a dream. He paid for the dinner when you two were done and you two went for a walk afterwards. He complimented you often and even gave you his jacket when you were cold. What Jaebum said about him can’t be true.

Even so, you couldn’t deny the fact that the cute guy you were with didn’t make you feel butterflies. He was cute, sure, but he wasn’t someone you had developed a bond with. While walking, you found yourself wondering what you even knew about this guy.

“Hey,” he interjected your thinking, “before the night ends, I want to show you one last place.” You nodded and made your way to the car.

He drove around and he brought you to a familiar place, however it didn’t look the same.

“Is this the lake?” you asked, overlooking the lake. He nodded with a smug smile. “It looks so different at night.”

“It’s beautiful, right? Just like you.” You tore your gaze from the lake to look at him. “You know, y/n, this night was great, and you look so beautiful. I think I know how to make it better.” He inched his face closer to yours as you backed yours up.

“And I think you know how, too.” You scoffed and unwrapped his jacket from around you.

“No, to be frank, I don’t. And I think you just made it take a turn for the worse.” You unlocked and opened the passenger door, got out, closed it, and started walking.

“Y/n! Where are you going!” he shouted from the driver’s seat.

“I don’t feel comfortable  in the car with you. I’ll get home myself.”

“At least let me drive you home!”

“No thanks,” you declined his offer. He rolled his eyes, annoyed, and banged his hand on the steering wheel. He started the car and drove out quickly. When he was no longer in sight, you started to cry. I can’t believe I was so stupid.

You knew you weren’t going to be able to walk all the way home. Logically, you called the first person you could think of.

“Y/n?”

“Jaebum,” you sniffled, “can you pick me up?”

Immediately, he grabbed his key and his jacket and headed for the door. “Are you okay? Where are you?”

“I’m at the lake, and I’m,” you hesitated, not knowing how to describe how you were feeling to him without him saying ‘I told you so.’ You knew he probably wouldn’t, but you still had doubt.

“I’m sorry,” you managed to say.

“No, Y/n, it’s okay. You didn’t know. I’ll be right there, give me five minutes.”

That almost exactly how long he took, maybe even less than that. When he found you, he hurried out of the car and took off his jacket and wrapped it around you. He took your hands in his, about to ask how you felt, but he noticed that you were freezing.

“Y/n, you’re so cold,” he looked at you, face full with concern. “Come on, lets get you home.” Jaebum escorted you to the passenger door and helped you in the car. He rushed to your house and brought you in. As you began to slowly take your shoes off, he noticed your hands trembling. Hence, he picked you up bridal style and carried you to your room, sitting you on your bed.

He proceeded to take your shoes off for you, and carried them downstairs. When he came back up, you had wrapped yourself in your blankets, and he had 2 mugs of hot chocolate in his hands. You smiled at his kindness and took the mug from him. The warmth of the mug felt nice against your cold fingers.

You took a sip before admitting, “You were right. He just wanted to get with me. I’m sorry for not believing you.”

He looked at you, concerned. “Don’t concern yourself over him too much. That would be giving him too much of your time.”

You nodded and looked into his reassuring eyes. “Thank you, Jaebum. You’re a really great…friend.” You said, with a hint of sadness in your eyes.

“Y/n? Is there something wrong?”

You waited before answering. Should I say something now? Would this be my last chance? Am I going to ruin it all?

“Jae.”

“Hm?” This is the first you noticed that his face was so close to yours.

“Do you ever…”

“Ever…what?” he prodded.

“You know what nevermi-”

You were interrupted by his soft lips on yours. Your eyes fluttered shut and you both lingered in that position for a few seconds that felt like an eternity. When he pulled back, he smiled.

“Ever think that I like you? Yeah, quite often.”

“Okay, good. Because I think I like you too.”

He grinned before giving you a forehead kiss. “G’night, Y/n. You should rest.”

You looked at him, confused. “What about us?”

“Us? It doesn’t matter now, because I’m your man.”
