Hours and hours of practicing daily wore you out. If it wasn’t dancing, it was singing. If it wasn’t singing, then you and your group were on a variety show. Of course you loved your life as an idol, but sometimes it got to be too much, too overwhelming. You knew what you were doing when you trained to become an idol, but it felt like this life wasn’t what you signed up for.

This month, you and your group were on a tour in Asia. For the next few days, you guys were preparing to perform and promote in Japan. When you arrived and finished settling in the hotel you were staying at, you decided that you were going to walk on the streets. Although you were an idol, your group’s status in Japan wasn’t so high that you needed to be protected at all times. You took this as an opportunity to get a bit of a break, in a sense.

Walking around, you found a cute cat themed cafe and decided to hang there for a while. You ordered a warm drink and sat down near a window to drink it. While lounging, you checked your social media networks on your phone to see what was new with everyone. You saw that your boyfriend, Youngjae, had posted a picture of his puppy, Coco on Instagram. You smiled at the cute puppy on the screen and dialed Youngjae’s number. Not even two tone’s could be heard before someone picked up on the other end.

“Hello?” he answered.

“Youngjae!”

“Y/n!” he replied in a similar tone. Instantly, he bombarded you with questions. “How are you? Are you okay? Is everything okay? Have you been eating well?” You shook your head and rolled your eyes, as if he could see you.

“Yes, Youngjae, I’m fine. Right now I’m at a cat themed cafe in Japan. I send you a picture!” You hesitated for a second before asking, “How about you? Are you doing okay? Have you been eating well?”

“Of course! I have to be in best condition for when you return.” You couldn’t see, but he smiled bittersweetly.

You didn’t reply, and he didn’t say anything. There was just silence over the phone, yet, you both know the other was there. You heard him sigh.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. It’s just…”

“Just what?”

“I miss you,” he whined. Your heart felt heavy when he voiced what you both felt.

“I miss you too, Youngjae. But I’ll be back before you know it! Okay?”

“Mmm,” he hummed in agreement.

“I have to go now, but I’ll talk to you later! Bye Youngjaebae!”

“Talk to you later, Y/n.” You hung up and moved the phone away from your face, looking at it in your palm. You sighed before finishing up the last of your drink and leaving. I’ll be home soon.

Weeks passed and you two talked less. You either talked to him for a few seconds, or not at all. You sent pictures and texted him, but it was never for a solid five minutes. Texts were spaced out between days, and calls even less. You wondered if Youngjae would forgive you, and he wondered if you remembered him. It seemed as if your sun was going to stop shining.

You finally returned back from your long and exhausting tour. It never felt so good to be back in your dorm until now. As soon as your head hit your pillow, you were out. You fell into such a deep sleep that nothing was able to wake you up. When you did wake up, four hours later, you checked your phone and saw that you had 2 missed calls and 5 texts from Youngjae.

Youngjae

Youngjae

Youngjae

goodnight, y/n!

You checked the time on your screen and saw that it was 4:05am. You got up and changed out of your clothes into something more comfortable and washed your face to feel at least a little fresh. After, you went right back to sleep.

You woke up the second time due to the sunlight peering into your room. You rolled in your bed as you groaned, unable to fall back asleep. When you remembered that Youngjae texted you earlier, you checked your phone once more to see if he said something else.

Youngjae

Good morning, Princess!

Youngjae

You can come over whenever.

You got up out of bed and walked into the living room. To your surprise, the rest of the group was already there.

“We have a last minute practice today. We’re performing for a music bank,” one of the members informed you.

“Are you kidding me? We literally just got back this morning!” you complained.

“I know. Try and be ready in an hour. We’ll meet you at the studio.”

Practicing until your feet fell off and your vocal chords were ripped out, you felt worn out all over again. You thought that today might have been your one day of rest, to see Youngjae. However, your plans were crushed by this idol lifestyle.

The time was 9pm when practiced finished, and you wondered whether or not Youngjae would still be up to seeing you. You decided to take your chance and made your way to his place anyways. Making your way over, you felt anxious.

You made it to his door and knocked on his door hurriedly, hoping he’d answer. The door swung open slowly and a tired boy appeared in front of you.

“Youngjae!” you beamed.

“Oh y/n. Hey, come in,” he wearied. He left the door and walked in himself, leaving you alone to walk in and close the door. He must be tired.

“So…how was your day?” you asked him, in attempt to liven him up.

“Fine. Yours?”

“Ugh it was so busy! I wanted to call you, but our manager pulled a surprise practice on us-” you noticed him looking at you unamused.

“Are you feeling okay? Should I come over another day?” you asked.

“I don’t know, y/n. Will you come? I’m tired of these late dates and late practices. I’m upset that I hardly get to see you. I miss you,” he explained.

You could only look down ashamedly. It wasn’t completely your fault, but perhaps you could have called more often, or at least let him know when practice ran late. You didn’t notice the water in you eyes until you had to hold it back.

“I’m sorry, Youngjae. You deserve better than this.”

Noticing the fragileness in your voice, he came close to you and lifted your chin.

“Hey, we can do this? We can make this work. We’ll just have to both put in more effort,” he comforted.

“I will. I’ll put more effort, Youngjae, I’m sorry,” you kept apologizing. He put his arms around you and pulled you in a warm embrace.

“It’s okay. We’ll be okay.”

Right around your feet, a wild Coco appeared, barking.

“Yes, Coco, you’ll be okay too for three hours without food oh MY GAWSH.” Youngjae complained loudly, pulling out of your hug. You laughed at the small puppy and looked back at your boyfriend. He really is something.

The sun in your life shined once again.
