It was the day of the flight. You were almost packed and ready to go. You and Mark decided that flying during the night would be better, in order to avoid too much attention. You packed everything you needed for summer in SoCal; sandals, shorts, t-shirts, tanks, dresses, and of course a formal outfit or two. Mark texted you that he was going to pick you up by your house, and to be ready soon. You were excited to meet his family, and you were hoping that they would like you.

As you were finishing up, a taxi pulled up in front your apartment and someone left it to come inside your building. You hear someone ring your bell and you press the button next to your door to respond.

“Who is it?” you asked, laughing.

“Are we really gonna play that game? Let’s go Y/N!” Mark replied.

“Okay. Can you help me with my stuff?” Before you knew it, he was at your door knocking.

“You’re the best, you know that?” He nodded haughtily and started grabbing things to take to the taxi. When he took the last of your stuff, you locked up your apartment, doing a mental checklist to make sure you got everything you needed.

You got in the taxi, and the drive there was nothing out of the ordinary. You two talked as you normally would. He told you about his family members and what they would be like. By the way he was describing them, you thought you might be okay and they may accept you. However, the more and more you thought about it, you became overwhelmed. I still have time, and I’m sure they’ll like me; no use in stressing now, you reassured yourself. For the rest of the drive, you calmed down a bit and continued talking with Mark about Los Angeles in general.

When you arrived at the airport near dusk, the two of you were able to rush through the check-in and security checks. Not too many people were going to Los Angeles at this time, so it didn’t take long to get to your plane seat. Mark got the window seat, you got the middle seat and the aisle seat was left unoccupied. Almost as soon as the plane was stable in the air, you fell asleep.

You woke up when the refreshment cart started making its’ rounds in the aisles to clean up any trash. You saw that both you and Mark had a blanket covering, and you smiled. How caring of him. Only a minute or two after you got up, he did too.

“Hi,” you emitted. Mark peeped his hand out from under his blanket and gave you a tiny wave. After getting up, the two of you stretched your arms out a little. You then lay your head on his shoulder. You reached your hand out to the little screen on the backside of the seat in front of you. The flight was only thirty minutes away from Los Angeles. You looked up at Mark and smiled. This was going to be a fun trip. You spent the rest of the time talking, holding hands and your head still on his shoulder.

In no time, the plane landed and you were in LA. You and Mark were able to pass quickly through the luggage claim and the custom check before going through the sliding exit doors. Through the doors, you were able to see a glimpse of his family waiting outside. That’s impossible, we’re meeting them at the house…

“Hey is that your family?” He nodded in reply. “What?! I have bedhair and I probably don’t smell good and your family is right outside that door? Marrrrrrrrrrrrk.” You complained.

“Y/N, you look gorgeous and you smell like me so it doesn’t matter,” He smiled, walking towards the doors. How charming.

As you walk through, Mark is already hugging his parents and you smile at the lovingness of his family.

Before you get the chance to introduce yourself, “You must be Y/N! Mark tells us all about you. Mark, you didn’t tell me she was so pretty! Aw, come here,” Mark’s dad rejoiced, holding his arms out for a hug. You put your stuff down and go to hug him. After he let go, his mom introduced herself and gave you a hug as well. They helped you guys with your stuff and brought it to their car. You couldn’t have been more happier. They liked you! On the way to their house, Mr. Tuan was telling you all about Mark’s life. The poor guy looked so embarrassed but you had to laugh! Mark sounded like a cute little boy.

When you reached the Tuan home, Mr. Tuan informed you two that the rest of the family was inside waiting. With bags in your hands, you walked together to the front door.

“Uncle Mark!” His nieces screamed. He got down on his knees to their eye level and gave them both hugs.

“This is my friend Y/N. She’s gonna hang out with us.” He introduced you.

You kneeled next to him and talked to them, “Hi! I’m Y/N! I’m sooo glad I get to finally meet you. Mark tells me about you guys, and how cute you are!” You smiled at them and they surprisingly gave you hugs too. You hugged back, happy they also liked you. Behind them were his siblings, two older sisters and his younger brother.

“Hey guys! How are you?” He asked, hugging everyone. “I’d like to introduced to Y/N!”

His oldest sister greets you excitedly. “So we finally get to meet you! Mark tells dad about you alllllll the tim-”

“Moving on…I’m starving! What’s for lunch?” He interrupted. Just like him. Mark showed you his room and then guided you to the guest room.

“And this is your room! Let me know if you need anything.” He winked at you, leaving you to get settled. You took a look around the room, admiring the pictures on the wall of his family. It was unbelievable you were even here.

You packed your things away and went back to the living room. Mrs. Tuan and Mark’s sisters were helping making lunch. When you came down, you asked if you could help with anything. Mrs. Tuan denied, reasoning you must be tired, but after insisting, she allowed you too.

After finishing, everyone was called to get some food. As soon as Mark sat down and took his first bite, he hummed.

“Mhmm! Mom this tastes so good!” He called out to her.

She called back, “Y/N helped me make it!” You caught him looking at you and he gave you a thumbs up. You smiled, feeling proud of yourself. You thanked her, got your food and sat down with everyone else. Everyone was complimenting how well you and Mrs. Tuan did making it. While you were talking with everyone else, Mark was proudly at you. She’s doing great.

Later in the evening, after dinner, you and Mark were playing with his nieces. You drew pictures together, played with toys, and listen to them talk about their make believe worlds. They were two of the cutest little girls you’ve ever seen.

“Hey, you wanna get some fro-yo?” He asked you. You nodded and pointed to the little ones. He nodded back, meaning you were all going together.

“Yaaay! Yogurtland!” His older niece chanted. You let his parents know where you were going, and his sister said to be careful.

Mark drove to the closest Yogurtland, which happened to be pretty close to his part of town. On the way there, the girls requested to listen to ‘Uncle Mark’s song” because he sounds cool. You sang along to the tracks, and they joined in where the could.

Entering the kiwi-green colored store, Mark helped the girls pick out some flavors and chose the amounts for them. After he paid, the four of you sat down at a table, enjoying your fro-yo. The girls seemed really happy, which made you happy too. When you all finished, all four of you walked to the car hand in hand.

It was near 10pm when you got back, so the girls had to go to bed. You and Mark stayed up, talking to his siblings a bit more. They were really cool, and treated you well. His oldest sister in particular was really kind, asking questions about you. You got to learn more about them, and them towards you. They then went to bed too, leaving you and Mark alone, outside by their pool.

“This was a nice first day,” you told him.

“I’m really glad you liked it. And they like you, just like I said!” He teased. “We should probably get going, they have a lot planned. You just don’t know yet.”

“Okay, I’m going in first. Good night, Mark.~” You pecked him on the lips.

“See you in the morning, Y/N.” He said tiredly. Besides suffering from a bad case of jetlag, it was a great day, and you were able to get what you could of a good night’s rest.
