Blood.

Dark crimson fluid painted the white walls of the living room, furniture damaged and cracked and windows shattered into bloodstained tiny pieces. Kim Ryeowook paled, hands and legs going numb despite his body and heart shuddering violently, thumping wildly against his chest.

Omma, Appa…

His parents. Ryeowook’s mother and father were right there, right in front of him. But they were lifeless in blood-soaked attires. Ryeowook screamed, yelled and when he barely found the strength in his body, he sprinted and collapsed between them. Ryeowook shook his father’s body first, he rocked the body back and forth, mournful tears sliding down his cheeks and onto his father’s face. When they was no response, Ryeowook moved to his mother. This time, his tears were bitter, he was heartbroken.

“Omma,”

Ryeowook could only beg. He begged his mother to please, please get up, please get up and fix dinner for the family, please get up and look at his exam results which he had scored almost all As for his subjects. Ryeowook pleaded for his father to please, please get up and shine his playful grin and tell him that it was just all a prank, please get up and pull him into a big tight hug and tell him that this was all just a nightmare. Most of all, Ryeowook prayed, prayed that this wasn’t happening, that this was all just his mind playing dirty little tricks on him..

But it wasn’t.

Ryeowook’s parents were still laying stiff and bloodily and Ryeowook wailed out long and hard. He was unsure of how long he had been there, hugging his legs to his chest and rocking back and forth between his parents, but Ryeowook stirred when a pair of strong arms enveloped him into a tight embrace.

“Hey, wh-what happened?”

That was all it took. That was all it took for Ryeowook to break down. He screamed and wailed, punched and kicked. Ryeowook howled at his parents, yelling at them for leaving him alone. Ryeowook screeched at the ceilings above, shouting and accusing the walls of his home and God for not protecting his loved ones. Ryeowook bawled his fist and punched the stranger on his chest, sobbing at him and asking why, what on earth was going on.

“Shhh, shhh, it’s okay, it’s okay.”

The last thing Ryeowook remembered of that night was going to sleep tucked protectively and tenderly. Solid arms held him close, thumbs gently caressing the back of Ryeowook’s hands and words of promises whispered into Ryeowook’s ears. When Ryeowook finally found his sleep, tender fingers wiped away the corners of Ryeowook’s tear-stained eyes.

“Just close your eyes,

You’ll be alright.”
