About Translations

This is mostly a Li thing but I am studying Mandarin Chinese and I have a background in Cantonese (from being born and raised in southern China and all that ^^;).

If you want something translated (warning: I'm not all that advanced just yet), just shoot us a message. I'm happy to help (=

Because we all know that Google translate .

Note: There are many ways to say the same thing, just like in any and all languages.

Other side-note: If you want it in characters, I will be using traditional characters (otherwise, I will give it to you in pinyin [the romanized system of Mandarin Chinese] or jyutping [the romanized system of Cantonese] depending on which dialect you ask for). If you want simplified (because it's easier and more commonly used/understood [it is used in Mainland China]) then this would be the only time that I would suggest Google translate.

***please specify the dialect that you want***

It would also help if you provide some basic details about the scene/what's happening/what it's for so that I can give you the appropriate words for the situation. The location or where the character is from is also very helpful; you can honestly tell where someone was raised/learned Chinese just by the way that they speak especially if they're from the north (or south). Chinese has a respect system like most oriental-Asian languages (levels of formaliy and such) and lots of synonyms that have different connotations and implications. (tl;dr: the more info, the better, or if it's easier, just link the story)

TL;DR: I'll be happy to translate; I'll do my best; specify desired dialect; details are appreciated.

~ Li
P.S.
Feel free to ask about cultural differences, customs and the such. I will let you know to the best of my ability.

Fun facts:
  • Shanghainese and Taiwanese are NOT the same as Mandarin
    • just like Cantonese, it's its own dialect with unique characters and idioms

  • Shanghai, Taiwan and Hong Kong are NOT part of Mainland China/The People's Republic of China
    • meaning language (they write in traditional rather than simplified), government and currency are different!

  • Cantonese is primarily used in southern Mainland China and Hong Kong

  • China is HUGE; every province has its own culture and customs; please do your research~ <3
