Imagine writing a story for someone whose first language is not English. How would something be described in a way they would understand it? Also when a setting is introduced, a character should get something out of it, either by learning something new or having the setting change them physically and/or psychologically. Aside from character and setting, a character needs to be driven to do something. Their inner desire, their dream since they were a kid, whatever it may be referred to as. This is what's called a story's third rail, what electrifies the entire piece. Write like you speak.

Happy writing everyone! :)
