JangDaeByul > Aifei-by-the-Sea

I changed my username for many reasons. One of them is that when I created JangDaeByul, it was a name that I had been given from Korean family and friends as parts of their names. However, I know not the meaning of such a name and as far as I know it could be very strange.

However, my Chinese name is very valid, and while learning Chinese my name went through much thought and design by family and teachers and is very dear to me. My Chinese name is 马爱菲, or Ma Ai Fei. Therefor, Aifei is now a part of my username!

The "by-the-Sea" part also means a lot to me. I was born and live in Vancouver, my beautiful ocean home! The Chinese family of mine, the ones who had the most say in my name, are from Shandong, Qingdao in China. Qingdao is a beautiful, century-style city on the ocean as well, and that is where I will be attending school next summer :)

You may have heard of Qingdao as that is where Victoria and Tao come from ^^

~~~~~~
So yeah :)
Recently I've been working on a couple stories, I'm still occasionally updating "Teacher's Lounge" (that fic is dear to me), but I will not be updating "Life From Louisa Wu" anymore. I don't like it much :|
But yeah, things are going well!
About Me
My name is Ivy and K-Pop is pretty much the default setting of my brain :)
Here are some valuble things to know about me and what kind of person I am on AFF.
My Goals on AFF
  • I'm a very bad author when it comes to updating. I start things and don't finish in life and my AFF is set on my personal goal - I will not post anything that has a set plot that I will not finish soon. Fics like "Teacher's Lounge" don't have a set plot and can be updated whenever, but I feel terrible because I don't update often.
  • My fic "Not Like This" was the first fanfic I took the chance to put up a chapter for before I had finished all of the chapters. The story itself was personally not satisfying to me, but in order to get it done I had to fix the plot to fit my writing style and ability. I'm proud of myself for finishing, and I hope to take a chance like this again sometime in the future.
  • I really want to be a nice person on AFF. Most of my favourite authors are kind and have time for readers, and I want to be as well. I'm blunt and sometimes unintentionally rude, but if I insult you in any way (personally), please tell me. When people call me out for things I tend to think harder and analyze their feelings.
  • If you give me an intelligent comment that makes me happy and then tell me to update soon, it will give me motivation. If you just tell me to update soon, I won't. I'm not offended by it as some authors are, but it's personally not valluble to me (sorry!) because I don't get any emotions from things like that.
  • I'm not all about subscribers. If I had 0 subscribers I would still try as hard, and work as hard just to please the one person who hypothetically will stumble accross my fic. Writing is about conveying and inflicting emotion unto a person and it doesn't matter to me how many people catch the emotion; it's about how well I send such an emotion. I honestly hope you guys can't see how many subscribers I have because I want you to care as much as I do... not much. It makes me feel good, of course, but one nice comment (that shows your emotion) is worth 100 subscribers to me.
My Writing Styles:
  • I take writing very seriously! Even as a fanfiction writer I want to use propper grammar, legible fonts (it's my biggest petpeeve when I can't read a good peice of writing!) and I strive to make everything the best it can be.
  • I write primarily humour/comedy/crack and secondarily fluff. I keep trying to write and I keep failing, mostly because I don't know how to name the "parts" (I know, I know - it's a bit dumb LOL). I also write a fair amount of angst but it never gets finished, and coincidentally never gets published (fail). If you think I'm funny, that's the best compliment I could ever get.
  • I accidentally switch between third-person past-tense and third-person present-tense. It sets the mood of what I'm writing but I can see how it will be annoying OTL
Comments:
  • I do like constructive criticism! Even if you hated a story but you can clearly state every aspect of why you hated it and how I could do better, I will respect you and take you seriously. However, don't expect that every peice of constructive criticism means I will change everything you say to change, I take my own styles into account too.
  • I take every comment as a gift. Honestly. Makes me so happy.
  • If you find a grammar mistake, a spelling mistake, a refference mistake or anything like that, tell me please! I will laugh at myself and correct myself write away ^^
  • I don't know many people who would do any of this, but things that will offend me are :
  • 1) obviously telling me you don't like me or my writing. No-brainer there LOL (I understand if you don't like my writing at all! But don't comment unless you want to tell me what I can do better.
  • 2) looking down on me because I sound confident. It's a true benifit to be a young person who can take pride in something they've done, and I find it distateful upon myself to write something like "this , i'm sorry". I may say I'm not happy with a peice of writing but I'll usually say why as well. I don't think my stories are better than anyone else's and I don't want to sound like that, but even as fanfiction I think of what I do as serious writing. I'm confident in my confidence.
About My Fandom:
I'm an ELF and also an EXOtic! I'm generally an SM stan :) I really like all groups and there's really no-one in K-Pop I don't like but my favourites are here:
  • Super Junior <3
  • EXO <3
  • Brown Eyed Girls <3
  • F(x)
  • TVXQ
  • GLAM
  • Yoo Young Jin (Okay, he's not really a singer but he's damn talented and I love him)
  • B2ST
  • Girl's Generation
  • SMTOWN in general
And more :)
My Bias list starts with Han Geng who's followed by Heechul and then Tao (who is ruining the Hanchul up in there!); and the others are still undecided on. But among them are:
Amber, Victoria, Jia, Changmin, Yunho, Baekhyun, Zinger, Narsha, Chen, TOP, Hyunseung, Gain, Zhou Mi, Jessica, Lu Han, D.O, Mir, Hyorin, Hyuna, BoA
(In case you haven't noticed I tend to love Chinese people quite a lot...)
I like many more but yeah. My OTPs are HanChul and TaoRis but others I love are EunHae, KryBer, Kyungmyeon, LuKai, TaoRis, BaekYeol, G-TOP, YunJae, JongKey (and TaoRisBaekYeol OT4 :D)
Of course, these are all just for now and maybe I'll get new loves :3
But anyway, I really, really, really hope you like my stories :)
