I'd choose heavy angst over sweet fluff anyday, but that's my personal taste and you should also write whatever you want and feel comfortable with! There's an audience for everything and you will find people who love what you write (or rather, they will find you), if you haven't already.

Always write for yourself, not for your readers. Your readers will like it either way :)
