the summer i turned pretty

Baekhyun doesn't know if it was just his anxiousness or paranoia that everyone was looking at him as soon as he stepped foot inside the café. Was it because he came later than his usual arrival time? Well, you can't blame him for spending too much cuddle time with Chanyeol. The man barely lets him get up and almost implied that he shouldn't go to work but Baekhyun refused. Or was it because Chanyeol kissed him in front of everyone when he dropped him off? Either way, you can't really blame him. Just the thought of those skin ships could make Baekhyun’s insides squirm in an uncontrollable manner and giggle like a high schooler. Baekhyun looked at Luhan with wide eyes. He's not even subtle on ogling him blurted, "You're glowing." To say that Baekhyun was surprised is an understatement. "Glowing? Me?" He asked, dumbfounded as he pointed an index finger to himself. "Yes you. You looked sunshiny, you know. You have that certain bloom. Like a flower that just got drizzled with rain," Luhan explained with matching wiggling of his eyebrows. There's a hidden innuendo behind his words, but Baekhyun chose to not dwell on it. "Seriously, Lu," he deadpanned. "What he's trying to say, is that, you looked blooming. You looked fresh and contented,” Kyungsoo supplied as he saw Baekhyun’s unconvinced look. “But I also have to agree with Lu, here," Kyungsoo finished as he high fived with Luhan and cackled together. Baekhyun could only pout. Traitor. With summer finally in, there was an influx of customers who were trying to find something to quench their thirst and fight off the heat. It's a weekend, and their cafeteria was buzzing with people trying to get some refreshments and have a sweet treat. Twenty minutes into manning the counter, Baekhyun felt extremely tired already. He was merely entertaining some customers and getting their orders, but he could feel his energy already drained and squeezed out from every pore of his body. He still plastered a smile on his face, though. He wouldn’t want to dampen their customer’s mood. He occasionally blushed from the flattering remarks thrown his way by their patrons. And he should find it weird. It’s not like every day that he got complimented for having the glow—to make it even weirder, eighty percent of those who complimented him, said almost the same words to him. He thought of reasons why he was suddenly feeling tired, but only and always ended up going back to the reason that he was stressed from the preparations for their business’ expansion. But his slight limping says otherwise. By lunch time, there's a considerable decline in the number of customers and the three owners decided to have a lunch together, Italian this time.—Roses Will Bloom Again, Chapter 8
