Ok...one more! KPOP groups in stories :/

So, yesterday I ask you readers/authors what makes you stop reading a fanfic! Thank you so much for the opinions, I'm really getting an eye opener and I HOPE it helps others too. The discussion is still open of course, so more opinions are welcomed.
But...I also had another question.
There's a lot of Kpop groups out there, I know.
But, the stories that I (me, myself, maybe you've seen different) see that are very successful or has more reads, or gets more attention, are stories that surround Exo or Bts members. Okay, we get it HunHan stories are usually freaking great. And these two groups are very popular.
I just wonder what could it be? I've seen many well written stories with other groups (Monsta X, Seventeen, NCT etc.) that barely have as many views or subscriptions, or up votes, all that good stuff. And I'm not saying that writers on here write for up votes, or subscriptions, but it would be nice to write knowing there's actual readers.
Even myself, I wrote a story of Kaisoo and it was so mediocre but it had more attention than any other story I've written.
What do you guys look for in a story? In your opinion, do stories that have Exo pull you in more? Also...what groups are you into and what groups do you think should have more fanfics written about them?
I'm wording this so wrong probably because I just woke up but if you catch my drift than comment!

like ok we might try to deny it or even justify it but in the end it all comes back down to the fact that those groups simply just have more fans, by a pretty humongous amount too

also, no group "should have" more fanfics written about them. because fanfics come from their fans. if they have less fans, or if their fans just don't feel the need/want to write about that group anymore (maybe it's already past their heyday?) then we can't really do anything about it can we? we can't tell their fans to start writing more fics or something. there's no theory about if a group has XXXX number of fans then they should at least have XXX fanfics. :/ it's just... life. life's not fair.

you know no matter how many times questions like these are asked, there's really only one answer beneath it all: popular groups just have more fans... aka more fanfics writers... aka more audience for the fanfic writers to cater to... aka more fanfics readers... aka more recognition... good stories abt less popular idols? sorry, there's no nicer way to say this-- it's simply tough luck.
neonflowers 6 years ago
honestly we don't have to pry into this topic anymore, the answers are simple as .
1. exo and bts stories/ships get more attention because they have more fans. it's called fanfiction. the fans write them and the fans read them. what the fans like, the fans will bring up to the spotlight more, getting that fic more publicity. whether or not the fan likes the idol determines a lot on whether or not the fan likes the fic, because the fan is of coursed biased. well written stories of not so popular groups? well, tough luck. no matter how you try to soften this, the truth why they get less attention is simply just because basically, they are less popular! they have less fans! their stories will thus garner less fans too. the market is simple. it's nothing. it's basically the group's popularity, no matter how you try to deny it/rephrase it. the group's popularity play a lot in this.

2. good plot, idols that i actually like (this is also why exo/bts fics are into the spotlight-- the good plot thing can be put as second)
3. duh, because they're the group i'm most familiar with (kai and suho are also extremely hot so that helps)
4. there's nothing like 'should have more fics written about them'. because it's basically the fans' ideas and the fans' doing. if they have less fans-- which means less fanfics-- well then... no one can really say that they should have more fics written about them right? or if the fans themselves don't feel the need/want to write fanfics about their idols then what can we do?

I will look for my favourite groups' stories first, then my favourite ships because they are the reasons I even made an account in here (lol). I don't read EXO or BTS fics on regular basis (honestly, hardly ever). I sometimes try to find stories about 2PM, BIGBANG, sometimes Shinhwa and Sechskies. Well, when I have time to spare. I actually will read anything that catches my eyes (something unique or just cliché with my favourite couples in them). If I ever become desperate about the lack of stories featuring my babies, you will see me become one of the authors (lol)

I tend to read bts fics because they're my favourite group, but what I read is completely based on my favourite ships, like taekook (bts) and baekyeol (exo), along with other ships like meanie (seventeen), markson (got7), jjproject (got7), showki (monsta x), etc.

I usually read exo fics bcs I'm a fan of them. However, I do read fics from other groups if I like the writing enough.

I think the obvious answer to that is that EXO and BTS are simply some of the most popular male kpop groups out there at the time being. A large fandom equals a larger fanfiction base, which equals more readers. Groups such as NU'EST and VIXX (a group I like and a group I love) have a smaller fanbase, which results in fewer fics and fewer readers.

Currently, I'm into VIXX and BTS fics. I'm a somewhat fan of NU'EST and BAP and more, but I do not read fics. In the past I read a lot of EXO fics and some BIGBANG fics, but nowadays I rarely look at BIGBANG fics, whereas I snoop now and then in the EXO tag and pick out pairings I like (I'm a huge fan of SuLay and Krisho, and unfortunately they, particularly the former, are less popular pairings in a popular fandom...)

Some readers read everything, but I presume most stick to their favourite groups.

In a fanfic, I look for a good plot and good writing - and my fandoms. If those three criteria are met, I'll give pretty much any fic a chance, really. With that said, I do have a fondness for angst, medieval settings, and fantasy.

I always think the VIXX fanbase needs more fics. Always. They're made for fanfics with all their concepts.

I usually only read stories with my favorite pairings in them. Unless I'm a big fan of the author, then I'll read whatever he or she puts out because I know it'll be good, despite me not caring for the pairing. But usually I just stick with my favorite pairings.

What I look for in stories is of course my fav genres, so I try to find good stuff that interests me that has to do with either Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Friendship, Sci-Fi, and/or Supernatural. Honestly, I haven't been reading as much, or not even at all really, within like the past year or so because I can't really find stuff that interests me enough with these things (I've been over at AO3 reading lots of Haikyuu lately haha). Other stuff I would love to see is just stories about members of a group or a bunch of idols just chillin and being buds with whatever is going on, or, if I can stories with there's no romance at all or barely any/a side thing that's not the main focus. I don't mind romance, but I've come to love other things much more. Also, I'm a fan of long stories and word counts, and that can kinda be tough to come across as well (although I don't mind shorter stuff here and there, I much more prefer long stuff). I like Exo so I'll read about them, though usually what I read depends on my group mood and stuff. So, with myself not really finding much of what I'd want, I've been trying to put out the content, since someone's gotta do it. Right now I'm currently trying to work on new stuff for UP10TION, who is a group I would love to see more stuff written about for. Other groups I'm really into that I would also love to see more for, hope to find epic fics about them that I'll like, and want to help out write stuff for myself or those like Vixx, GOT7, NCT, Red Velvet, Sonamoo, etc.

I read most groups, but it's only natural that big fandoms pull in big views. It's not so much that EXO pulls people in more, it's that there are more people to pull in.

I'm really not picky with the groups/members I read about. As long as there's good grammar and a good plot, count me in. I shall shower that fic in praises it deserves.

I like exo and B.A.P, and I will read about these two. No matter how greatly written a monsta x story is I will not read it because I'm not their fan and since this is a Fanfic site that's the sole point :)

On the other hand, it's also very easy to get recognized if you write for a smaller fandom. Smaller fandoms usually have fewer fanfics so if there are new ones which are at least a bit readable a lot are happy with it and read it.

It's not exactly that fics with certain groups are always better, it's just that it gets more attention since there are people hungry for fanfics about certain groups.

I read it somewhere that you gotta at least have EXO or BTS as your main characters for your story to get recognized. It's just that, half of AFF has been inhabited by mostly EXO-Ls and multifandoms who loves EXO as well (I'm a part of 'em though). For me, however, I don't mind whoever the characters are as long as the plot intrigues me, and it's not so bad written.

But here's a thing.
I used to write an iKON fanfic on a new account and it got a lot of recognitions from readers despite iKON being very new at that moment. That's because I entered it in a writing contest - I think it sort of help. I'm into a lot of groups, and I do think GOT7, MX, BAP should have more fanfics written (and more readers ofc). :D

hunhan stories can be really great or then they can be really freaking disgusting. and this might maybe mean that I have seen way too many hunhans lmao. I usually read only Sehun x anyone because I'm a hoe for Sehun. but sometimes I like Red Velvet fics.
people who are really hardcore fans of small unknown groups still read stories about BTS and EXO because there's a bigger variety of those and great authors write about them. to me, it's also easier to write about big groups. I think EXO has that kind of charm that no other band has, that kind of inspiring charm. that what makes me want to paint them, write about them, glue pictures of their faces all over my room--
they're just baes okay
