Am I the only one who has gone through this?

So, I don't really like oc or idol×reader fics, so I don't read them at all and mostly scroll past them if I see one. In a particular discussion on this site a few weeks ago, I commented that I like boy×boy fics, and the amount of bash I got was surprising. I thought our world was starting to be more open minded and welcoming, but apparently, many users started to bash me saying "go read your stupid gay stories" or "two boys should not be together, that's why I read oc fics more at least the relationships are normal"

Is it so wrong for two people of the same to love each other? I don't have anything against oc/reader fics, it's just my personal preference that I don't tend to read/like them. But to bash idols and saying that only straight relationships are 'normal', that's just...a really narrow minded and mean thought

I wanted to express myself here because I needed to know if this has happened before with any of you, or if you related with me. This incident took place weeks ago but it was eating me up so I decided to post it here. Also, if you're a homophobe, please don't waste time of your petty life to leave a comment because I've had enough of people like you

@Emilieee @Emilieee I don't understand ppl on AFF being homophobic because as far as I know, MOST fanfics here are boyxboy and the majority of writers write boyxboy. If they're not comfortable with it than don't bash other ppl who are. I mean, I dislike characterXoc because I don't like to Imagine a non existent girl with a guy I stan but I never leave any rude comments to those who like that kind of fics.

And, being homophobic is very narrow-minded because there shouldn't be rules for love, Be it age or gender, whatever. When it comes to love, I support it fully. Even if it's in real life although it seems cringy to some people because to me there's no boundaries in feelings. Especially love.

@Ai_Akizuki Well…yes. The best example I can give you is Trump. He's the president of the US and he's homophobic. There's always going to be people like that in the world.

Though it is weird — I've actually haven't seen a lot if homophobia on this site, because a lot of the fics are Boy x Boy.

Wtf? It's literally 2017 and there's still ppl being homophobic?

And of course people might just talk avout theur own preference. Like, I don't like bottomluhan in hunhan stories and it's just my own preference. I have to look foe those fics. So those people cant just wait for someone to present them good fics, they might as well look for thsm

I think everyone should like and read what they like. I think it's okay for them to prefer oc x idol or reader x idol, but please, there is no need to bash anyone for it. I've dealt with homophobia a lot because I'm gay and my family is conservative christian. Well, it has happened to me, as I started to like boyxboy stories. My sister and mom called it a phase. Yeah. Guess that phase doesn't seem to end there. It's been uh, quite a while. These people should just open their eyes. If they want their precious idol x reader fics then there is a tag for thay

that never happened to me.
never had anyone here telling me "go read your stupid gay stories" or "two boys should not be together, that's why I read oc fics more at least the relationships are normal"

most fanfics are boy x boy , girl x girl or anyone they ship with
=,=' to those people in AFF shamming so called 'abnormal relationship' genre.
AFF is full of abnormality! :)
make sure newbies here know what they sign up when they visit AFF :D

ah it's ok sweetie...people like that are the reason the world just seems to be at a standstill...i mean everyone says "oh we accept people for who they are" but the minute someone does something that they don't consider "normal" then the hypocrisy starts.

i personally enjoy boyxboy fics and i write them (but i'm no good :v) i also enjoy oc/idol fics...honestly, i believe that if what you enjoy brings no harm to urself or to other ppl then no one has a right to forcefully impose their views on you, they can tell u that they r against it but to blatantly curse or belittle your likes is just rude and disrespectful and you don't need that negativity in your life. my advice to you is that you accept that there are ppl out there that feel like it is there godforsaken right to others with their views but you also see and understand that there are ppl (like me) that believe that once you find joy in something, as long as its not hurting you or the ppl around u, then it's ok.

it that ppl can't just learn to love eachother and to accept eachother :( and hey if this ever bothers you again, you come back to this discussion and see that there are ppl that would respect you wholeheartedly for your likes.

T_T i'm sorry for my monologue T_T i get so emotional when ppl hurt other ppl just because they can't accept certain things :/

I've seen this many times in many different fandoms, on many different sites. It's not really an isolated incident, unfortunately. Of course, everyone has the right to their own preferences, but it's really unfortunate that people continue to behave in such a way. It's not really a matter of the types of fanfiction people read, but about their thought processes. I think people should try to see the beauty in all kinds of relationships, so I agree with you that their narrow-mindedness is a problem.

Don't mind them. For all i know many people here ship boyxboy ships (maybe even more than oc ships). I prefer reading boyxboy ships too, bc sometimes ocs in oc fics tend to too fictional, ykwim? Too...unrealistic, and saying they read them for the "normalcy" of the relationship is maybe just an excuse they say but aren't aware of. Maybe they mask their dreams of being in a relationship with an idol by reading oc fics; just as relationship between idols is just as imaginable because we can read and write about them. My best guess is it's more of jealousy than actual homophobia lmao. But thats just me guessing. Anyway, don't pay attention to them. If they bash you again, go back to this discussion and remember how many of us are on your side too /smiley face emoji/

funny how majority of the "straight shippers" ship their idols together, js. I don't think you should be too bothered by them since you are aware that they are narrow-minded and on the ignorant side of the spectrum. Whoever is making you feel this way only wants to prove that they are superior and that their thoughts are superior to yours, which is by no means any justification for what they said to you. Cheer up, and keep reading that , girlie. :-)

Honestly, I don't have a problem with same- relationships. It doesn't matter the gender but the personality in the person that will complete you. Just look at this YouTuber named Jeffree Star. He is a transgender who dates a guy who has been straight his whole life. They did a Q& A together answering things about their relationships. I think you'll find their answers helpful.
Here's the link for some helpful tips from a guy who has experienced this homophobic behavior. It'll really answer you or give you advice(and hopefully become a fan of him)

Well, even though I can't relate to it, I don't have a problem with same- relationships. Honestly, there's no such rule of dating the same gender. It's just a thing people got so used to that when change happens they freak out instead of understanding. It doesn't matter the gender but more of the personality of the person who will complete you. Just look at this YouTuber called Jeffree Star. He is a transgender who is dating a guy who is straight. They did a Q & A together answering questions of people who want to know how it's like to be labeled and what not. They're really acceptable and I think you'll find their answers really good as an advice.

Well,I cannot relate to it, but I don't have a problem with the same loving each other. It doesn't matter the gender, but more of what qualities you look in any person. Just look at this transgender guy dating another guy. I'll give you the link to his youtube channel. He does a Q & A with his boyfriend answering questions about their same- relationship and they are really acceptable. I think you'll find them relatable to you and give you advice on people who are homophobic and how to ignore them.

> get bashed on
> cringe
> realize you shouldn't care
> move on

Seriously, you should do whatever makes you happy, as long as it isn't directly hurting someone else. I don't like OC fanfiction either because to me they seem idiotic. I've gone through that phase around the age of 13 and that is way more than enough for my entire lifetime, lol. Does it mean that no one should read them? No, what the hell, if reading it makes them happy, let them be.

Let me tell you, I'm pretty old for this site, I have a stable job, a man I'm planning my future with, we've been thinking about kids. And I still read gay fanfiction. Why? Over time I've come to realization that being a woman I just know a situation these two find themselves in are purely impossible for someone like me and that is the beauty of the whole thing because at least I don't long for something I cannot get.

You shouldn't really care about hate. Don't hate the hate, just ignore it, as soon as you just leave it be and move on it stops being a part of your life.

Lol stuff those people. I'm pretty sure there are more fujoshi on here then "normal" people. I put those in quotes becuz peeps think it's "not normal" to have 2 guys like each other but seriously tho.... Some people needa keep quite instead of bashing us for what we like. They wouldn't like if they were bashed on something they liked ^^;;;;

Haven't been on AFF in months, but I don't remember going through something like this. Maybe it's because I myself mostly read boyxboy and write as such. Although I was initially surprised this has happened to you, the further I got into the message, the more I understood how this isn't shocking at all, sadly. I forgot that there's a wide market for OC/reader fics on AFF and they get featured quite heavily, too.
I, of course, do not believe there is anything wrong with two people of the same gender being in a relationship. However, there are many problems within the communities of writers who write boyxboy or girlxgirl. There are many instances where homouality is ized and the relationships are portrayed unrealistically. Just as there are problems in the OC/reader area, where many a times you find self insert stories, or stories where the OC is poorly constructed and the plots are recycled.
My guess is that the majority of the people who write and read only do so to satisfy their craving of seeing themselves romantically involved with their bias. That's why situations like these arise. And it's also because society still has a long way to go in terms of accepting gay people as 'normal'.

Ah, the homophobia on AFF. Yes, it strives. There are plenty of instances. I have yet to meet someone so vile they told me deliberately gay was wrong. Ignore them. The world is only changing slowly.

Don't worry, dearie, there are others who have to get through such situation, too. I don't, though, perhaps because I am not popular enough to be bashed, or perhaps I am too odd to be an object of bashing? Either way, don'y let it bother you anymore, my friend. We all know they are not worth our time, lest a space in our precious brain and heart. If anything, we should put those spaces with love for our beloved ones (our favourite idol, for example, or favourite story).

Personally, as someone who writes, reads, watches stuffs, I surely prefer idolxidol male relationship in stories I read, but I am completely fine with heterosxual relationships. I, actually, sometimes write straight relationship as well. And I am completely fine with mixed relationships in one story, such as fxf, mxm, fxm, human x refrigerator...

Anyway, we eventually have to come to terms that people are different from ourselves, each to their own. Again, just remember you are not alone, dearie, in dealing with... such conventional way of thinking.

I feel you, dear. I prefer boyxboy as well and don't read OCs - and if, they have to be very good with a non-mainstream theme. It didn't happen to me though that I got bashed for my preferences in reading or writing fanfictions. On the other side I don't mention it on any networks so the probability is thin anyways.

That's weird. I've never seen anyone bash on BL on this site. On the contrary, I think BL fanfictions are more popular and more common here. I can't imagine a homophobic person would willingly stay on AFF.
hopelesswriter 7 years ago
really? that's surprising because from my five years plus being here...boy-boy//same gender pairing is the most common ship everyone support and straight pairings get bashed more commonly in discussions...for me, both sides are just as close minded...the ones bashed gay n the ones bashed straight...i used to write boy-boy pairing...but now it feels way too mainstream here that i'm going for straight/no pairing/oc-oc most commonly...so yeah, my experience is totally different from yours.

I've never been in such situation but god, those bashers are so ignorant and close-minded. I'm pretty sure two boys loving each other are much more normal, so to say, than a fan fantasizing herself in an intimate relationship with her favorite idol. I'm not trying to bash oc x reader fics. But hey, if they feel like I'm bashing them with that line, they get my point. Saying that a homos*xual relationship isn't normal in 2017 is a bit... lame and outdated. They gotta move on to other more important world problems.

Btw, sweety (totally not being cheesy), don't let it bother you. Haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate. I hope those people will open up their eyes one day and see that the world isn't just black and white :)

*snorts.
To be honest, I find homophobes one of the most disgusting and vile kinds of "human" beings possible. Together with racists, ists and narrow minded people, I can't stand them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being gay, lesbian, bi or whatever ual interest you have. If you hate someone because they are in love with another human being.... let's just say I can't stand people like that. It might sound wrong, but I have a deeply rooted hatred for homophobes, racists, ists and narrowminded and extremely conservative people in general.
On the other hand, it's such a shame you still get those comments. Let's hope together that one day, there will be a day in which gay, bi or whatever ual orientation relationships are socially accepted.
Btw, I'm straight (should that be of any revelance to my opinion).

I haven't had an experience on-site (I write OC fics just because I don't have a preference for boyxboy myself, and don't know enough about girl K-POP groups to write anything else) but I have seen a lot of hate in real life. I say to each his own, and that hate like that is really saddening. Everybody likes different things, and that's supposed to be the beauty of individuality. You just gotta keep on truckin', and read what YOU enjoy and don't feel bad for doing it.
