It's one of the newer minor features that a lot of people haven't gotten used to yet. Also, most people tend to put up blog posts if they have something important to say. I think most people follow the same pattern: check blog posts, check story-related stuff (subscribers, upvotes, views, comments, etc.), and check PMs/wallposts
