Hello Venus makes me 'sticky sticky' for all the wrong reasons

And the battle for girl group domination ensues...
After SNSD kicked Jessica under the bus, tons of girls groups have ramped up to try and take the title Korea's National Girl Group.
so let's talk about our contenders for supremacy this month.

starting with...

Hello Venus - 끈적끈적 (Sticky Sticky)

After breaking out as the-girl-group-to-look-out-for and snatching wigs from other idols with What Are You Doing Today and Would You Like Some Tea? Hello Penus has lulled down for a good year and a half and now they're back with a lot of news!

1. new members - after Pledis pulled out Ara & Yoonjo (and everything that Hello Venus mattered for), Fantagio introduces Seoyoung and Yeoreum into the line-up. I don't really care bout the new members that much. reason: Lime and Alice. case closed.

2. new sound - with the new line-up comes new sound courtesy of Brave Brothers.

3. new image - from the cutesy, innocent girls that plans to take out APink, the girls get a major overhaul as they become a cheap-ripoff of AOA (which most girl groups are doing now hoping they strike gold like AOA did)

Now, let's break it down.

REVIEW:

THE SONG: uhh... meh... the song is (unfortunately) made with Brave Brothers' usual formula. brass, steady percussion and that try-hard jazzy tune that we're all very familiar to by now. (see: Miniskirt, Short Hair, First Love & all other BB produced music since 2012). the oh-woah-oh hook is a tad catchy though that i hear myself humming it unwittingly. but for those who are junkies for anything with the phrase 'brave sound' on it, i'm sure you'll enjoy this baby.

THE MV: uhh... meh again. it's your usual girl group mv with a y concept. lounge around a room with hot girls, the camera getting dragged to various parts of the set ala SNSD's Genie or AfterSchool's Heaven. then a dance-in-box (or a circus tent rather) with jelly molds where the girls bump and jump and grind into. it's a yawnfest really, i watched it once and i never repeated it since. also that Sistar homage they did with the -wiggling-hand-wafting-off-fart move can induce fatal cringes.

THE MINI: nothing much to say about the mini. the intro basically chants their name and how hot they are. the title song just elaborates the point they expressed with the intro. Whiskey on the other hand was a pleasant surprise, the jazz and brass give the song a sensual vibe that gets everyone in the right mood (which BB manages to pull off every once in a while, see: First Love). overall though, this is not a strong addition to Hello Venus' discography and i'm disappointed about it.

RATING:

Title Song:      ☆☆☆★★
Music Video:   ☆☆★★★
Mini Album:     ☆☆☆★★

this is overall a mediocre effort from what i seriously thought was a group that would be very popular. Hello Venus now sadly blends-in with their nugu contemporaries. i am very sad about this and sticky with salty tears. :(
