Rest in Peace: Ladies' Code's EunB and RiSe

Can I get on my soap box for a minute or two?

On September 3rd, a van carrying KPop group Ladies' Code lost a wheel, spun, and smashed into a guard rail, killing one instantly and putting two in critical condition. Late last night, one of the injured girls died without regaining consciousness. They were 21 and 23 respectively. It was a stupid preventable accident that took two innocent lives, and the KPop world is in tatters. And it's unfortunate that two promising lives were stuffed out in what is not an isolated incident.  In this editorial on allkpop, the author recounts a number of different accidents involving idols and managers, and it's startling how frequent they can be. In 2004, there was another car wreck that claimed the life of Seo Jae-Hyo of the boyband Wanted; he was 22. One of the most prolific accidents in the KPop industry involved four members of Super Junior and their managers on 19 April 2007; Eunhyuk and Shindong escaped without major injury, but Leeteuk sustained serious injuries from glass, and Kyuhyun was nearly killed. On 10 August 2006, Super Junior's Heechul had his left leg broken in five places in an accident coming from from the funeral of Donghae's father. In the wake of Ladies' Code's accident, Heechul pleads with his Instagram followers, "please fasten your seatbelt". He writes about meeting EunB for the first time - in her funeral portrait.

But this isn't what I'm on my soap box for.

I have had so many near accidents because of people doing stupid things: texting, talking on their phones, talking or arguing with passengers, searching for things, simply not turning their heads to look before merging. And I've been lucky; the few times I've been hit haven't even been serious enough to exchange info. But it only takes a second of carelessness to change everything. Because you can't control other people, you need to protect yourself. Leave the phones in your pockets, look around carefully, act like you could be hit at any moment. Because you could, and you might not be so lucky. There's enough that can kill us in this world; please don't add to it by being careless.

That said, goodbye EunB and RiSe, gone too young and never to realize their full potential.
