Silent Readers

I know it's unfair because during the 10+ years that I read fanfiction  I only wrote comments on like 10% of the stories I encountered, but it makes me incredibly uncomfortable when a story has subscribers but barely anyone who writes a comment.

A subscription doesn't mean that someone likes the story or even really follows it, it just means that they're thinking of reading the continuation. Subscribers without comments feels like bleeding to death on a crowded street. They watch, and don't give a . That's at least what it's like for me.

I don't want to be the kind of author, who cares about comments, because I chiefly write for fun. I love writing, so I don't mind writing things that only a few people read. Just a comment every now and then is cool. In theory.

But if a story has a relatively high number of subscribers and when I put my all into a chapter, only to stand in front of a blank wall, I feel as if I failed those people who hit the subscription button. Like, it's rude to unsubscribe, so that's why most people won't do it. So silence could mean anything. Either it just , or that my subscribers don't actually read the story.

It's pathetic, so I don't want to beg for comments. People should comment, if there's anything worth commenting on. That's what I firmly believe.

But that also means that my writing isn't worth the effort. Or so I end up thinking.

It's like a vicious circle.
