How's School? (By: Catherine Yao)

     School... school... school...

Well, school has different meanings for everyone. For those who loves studying, school is a paradise. While for those who loves playing or staying at home, finds school as a jail. School, one word, full of colors, full of meanings.

Studying at Manuel Luis Quezon Highschool is one of the best decisions I'd made in my life. At first, I had no idea of what's the real meaning of highschool, and I feel nervous everytime I think about it. But I'm wrong. Being a highschool student is a very wonderful experience. During my Grade 7 life, yes, we need to adjust ourselves so that we can be able to survive in that environment. I still need to make friends with everyone and get to know more about them, and it's fun! More friends, happier memories!

When I advance in Grade 8, it's also a new experience because you will feel the difference between your past teachers when it comes their way of teaching and fulfilling your minds with knowledge. We met more strict teachers that made us even stronger to accomplish things. I was voted as the class president last year so I need to be braver to do that responsibility. All of us always sleep late due to the assignments that we have, and we go home late also because we need to practice our piece for some school competitions. In this grade also, I noticed my talent in composing songs. Yes, I already composed songs when I was in elementary, but that is only for my past time. I'm only composing songs when I have nothing to do and I never let anyone to hear it because it might sound funny or something else. Then during our Musikatha in Science Month, I composed a Tagalog song. They liked it and my work was chosen to be our theme song for our entry! Even though we didn't win, at least we tried our best to have a piece that we did with all our hardworks and efforts.

Now, I'm already a Grade 9 student! We met many new classmates and we're really excited because we always see the same faces every year. From being 24, we become 32. So that means we have new siblings and new part of our family. I don't care about the competition that I always hear, competition about grades and fame. That's not the essence of studying. As long as you enjoy learning, you will learn many things. Being a smart student is not measured using numbers, it is how you treat others and be a good model to them. Since it's still the start of my Grade 9 life, let me tell you about my first week experience in it. C'mon!

Our first day of school just seems like an ordinary day, maybe because we are going to school even though it's still vacation. We met our new principal, who happened to be a doctor also like Mrs. Marissa Feliciano. We also have a new classmate, Kevin Tayong, who can understand Korean language and write hangul, so ABNormal (Michaella, Alyssa, Jenevie, Krisha, and I) we're very glad to meet him. We interviewed him and ask him about how did he learn that, how long he studied for that, and many more. Jenevie, Michaella, and I know how to read and write Hangul, and we want to learn about how to understand Korean language so that we can know the meanings behind every Kpop song without searching in the Internet. Kevin said that he learned that for 5 years, so he can, then I can too!

Our first week of class as Grade 9 student is fun, but at the same time, we need to overcome the pressure so that we can survive. We have a transferee classmate that transfered out and we don't know why. Maybe she felt the pressure of being an SCP student. We understand her situation because that's what we felt when we're still starting, but as time goes by, we forgot about the pressure and started to feel enjoyment. Other teachers already gave their requirements for their subject, like color codings for notebooks, assignments, etc. I listed them down and prepared myself for a no-sleep night!

As days passed by, some of our new classmates already feel welcome to us, while the others are still adjusting to the environment. We're very glad that they want to make friends with us by their actions, and we did make them as chingus ('friends' in Korean). We are also divided by the teachers to serve as our grouping. We had different groupings in each subject. Sir Espina divided us according to our style of learning. He made us answer a test which will identify us if we are Visual, Auditory, or Tactile learners. I was put in the Group of Visuals because I learn more if I'm seeing the actual thing happening, and I can see the textbook in my mind when I'm reviewing. Together with Aubrey, Lorie, Joyce, Jennybelle, Loryvie, and Vince, we already accomplished some of the tasks given to us during our groupings in Science. And we also have groupings in Trigonometry which become very unforgettable to me. That is because I was put in Group 4 and all of my other members are all new classmates. They were Yvonne, Angelie, and Ross John. I'm very happy because I have new groupmates and we can know each other better.

We are all excited about all the new things that we will learn. I like it when I knew new terminologies that I never heard before. I will try my best to learn the new lessons and understand the subject so that I will not be left behind. School...? Well, for me, it's a WORLD FULL OF MYSTERY.
