Language Learning Anybody?

So I've been wondering for awhile: is there any language out there that you've desperately wanted to learn and couldn't simply because of lack of motivation, materials or support?

Yeah, me too. The process seems so simple in theory but just like communism, once you put it into action it's a bastard.

And trust me, I've looked up my fair (actually I went overboard and looked up maybe a hundred DD:) videos and tutorials and articles on the mysterious Art of Language Learning.

I've come up with zilch.

Lots of places actually have the same tips and advice but they're really hard to incorporate into your life. Like language immersion. That's a pretty common theme where you stuff yourself into the culture to absorb their tonalities and voices and sentence structure. Sure, that seems doable, but it's kinda like throwing a kid who can't swim into the deepest part of the ocean because hopefully, instinct will take over and force his body to swim. It can be overwhelming and confusing, but it works for some people.

Plus, who can afford to move to the native country?

You can also talk to yourself. And this actually sounds fun on the Akerm Scale of Fun Things To Do When Bored, but talking to yourself or your dog or to thin air inspires mental instability accusations and simple sentences. Another problem is if you speak it incorrectly to yourself or etc., there will be no one around to correct you. This is good to practice the motion of words and familiarize yourself with how it should sound, but if you're aiming for fluency, try finding a native to speak to. Hopefully you can find a friend who won't make fun of you too badly or an adult with patience.

Me, I'm still learning. This is from my early ventures in language learning. I'm no polyglot, but if I could just speak all these languages it would be amazing. I feel like language and words are powerful tools that can help bridge gaps in the world and sponsor a sense of unity. But, it is also a divisive tool that erects barriers because of culture and understanding.

Please feel free to post your own struggles (IT'S REAL!) or any tips you might have. If I miraculously find a way to learn languages faster I will post it, and I can hopefully keep you guys up to date on my foreign expeditions!

Toodles~
