Angel of the Night

Dragging himself through the dim-lit office, the duffle bag seemed to be a little heavier to Jaejoong as he dragged it along the paper-littered floor. The office was a mess, and though he is the last person to leave, Jaejoong was not about to waste another minute in this building, for he figured, an extra hour of sleep is probably better than troubling himself over this.

Tomorrow morning, he’d tell Yoochun to clean it up for him—Yoochun, of course, wouldn’t mind because Yoochun was Jaejoong’s own personal servant. People always turn into slaves when love fills the brim of their cups.

It seemed weird how Jaejoong kept struggling to drag himself along the sidewalk like this. Sure the bag was heavy, but his steps were becoming even heavier the more he thought about his destination. Two days ago, he had thought his job had turned him into something nocturnal. A creature of the night. Truth is, he was never a creature of either phases of the diurnal. He simply never kept up with neither day nor night.

His house was only two blocks away, but Jaejoong could no longer drag his feet there. He’s been doing a lot of dragging lately; it’s been literally a month now, and he couldn’t do this anymore.

Staring at the sky above him, Jaejoong let the tears stream down his face. He was so tired, and looking at the stars calmed him a little. None of them though, could answer the question he had.

“When will it be over?”

He wasn’t done being angry with the heavens when someone stepped out from the shadows, bringing out a gush of crisp air. Jaejoong noticed the figure, and rubbed at his tear-stained eyes urgently. He didn’t like it when people saw him cry, let alone, vampires.

“It’s been hard on you, again?” the tender voice asked.

“Physically? Yes.” Jaejoong pushed off the wall and tried to offer the vampire a small smile. The other just frowned. “Do you want me to get you home?” he offered. Jaejoong scoffed, “For you to kill me? Have you forgotten what you are, and what you feed of, Yunho? I still can’t believe you still try to act all virtuous despite the cruelty of your nature.”

“Me? Cruel? Then what about your boss at work, huh? He’s all human, isn’t he? But is he humane enough to you, darling?” Mischief was evident in Yunho’s rich voice as he stepped closer to Jaejoong semi-paralyzed form.

“Don’t come any closer!” the warning in Jaejoong’s voice was filled with weakness. Yunho’s smirk pierced deeper into his cheek as the distance shortened. “Don’t—” Jaejoong wasn’t able to struggle when the beast, brutally, smacked his back against the bricks behind him. Jaejoong squeaked but made no move to stop the monster from latching his teeth into the juncture between his neck and shoulder.

As Yunho fed, Jaejoong managed to voice a question. “Why do you keep coming back?”  

“If I tell you, you’re going to freak out, love, but me and you…” Yunho was breathless as he confessed. Jaejoong was worn out from the loss of blood. His eyes were closed shut before he got to hear out the most vital piece of information. His body fell forward. Shining his crimson smile, Yunho, carried his soulmate along with his duffle bag, back to Jaejoong’s apartment. He then went back to the office to clean up after Jaejoong.

He didn’t want Jaejoong to ask favors of any one. Especially if that any one was called, Park Yoochun, the Vampire of the day, and the only vampire Yunho can never ever challenge face to face due to intellectual, time-related issues… He’d just have to compete through the night, because he was indeed the Angel of the Night, while Yoochun did it through the day.

There was only Jaejoong’s decision in the end. And Jaejoong, really, didn’t like either vampire all that much...
