Park Shin Hye's interview in PPTV "Star Around You" (with English Translation)

Park Shin Hye in "Star Around You"

I gotta say I love the throwback clip at the start to the first few eps. LMH and

PSH already being so adorable when they're riding in the car together :))

Host: Hello to all our PPTV viewers. Good evening! Welcome to tonight's show. As for our guest tonight, I'm sure like myself, there are a lot of people who really really like her. She plays Eun Sang in the hot drama series "The Heirs". It's none other than Park Shin Hye. Welcome her!

PSH: Anyeong haseyo! (And she says hello everybody, I'm PSH in Chinese).

Host: Haha after I say anyeong haseyo I will need translation...(lol) Yesterday, at the drama awards, you appeared with KWB. Can you tell us how you felt yesterday?

PSH: We heard that "The Heirs" was getting a lot of love and that a lot of people really liked it, so I was very happy. There were a lot of people at the awards last night. I was very happy and blessed and proud to receive an award.

Host: I was there and I also saw a lot of fans shouting, "Aren't you worried that Kim Tan would be jealous??" Were you afraid he would be?

PSH: (she smiles and laughs so cutely here) No I wasn't worried like that!

Host: When we watch the show, we know you chose Kim Tan in the end. Outside of the show, if you had to choose, who would PSH pick?

PSH: This is a really hard question. The two characters are too charming each in their own way.

Host: Actually filming this drama must have been difficult because of all the ups and downs, and it got very emotional. We wanted to ask when you were filming, were there any difficult parts and when was that?

PSH: Hmm...there were a lot of fans at the filming sites. At the time when we want to film something with more feeling, the situation was a bit difficult. In fact we even caused some traffic issues. I feel very thankful (about the popularity) but I also feel sorry to the people around us who were inconvenienced. In those situations, it can be difficult to film with emotion.

Host: I heard that when you and KT had to film a kiss scene, it was quite intense and gave you a shock. What was filming that like?

PSH: Um... it was more intense that expected, so that was the case. It wasn't because of bad intentions that shocked me! That wasn't it!

Host: It must have been fun to film together. LMH and KWB, they must be different on and off camera. Can you tell us about them off-camera and what they are like?

PSH: Halfway when we were filming, there were more and more issues with the show, and it can get pretty tough, but everybody while filming was full of life and very happy.

Host: This time, you and KWB have come to China, and LMH didn't come. Can you take advantage of the fact that LMH is not here to share some embarrassing secrets with our Chinese audience? :P

PSH: Embarrassing secrets? Little flaws? What are the ones I can say? (Sadly this question gets confused!) When KWB comes to the police station, because he's so happy to see Eun Sang, he sudden grabs her in a hug. Like Minho-oppa, all the guys are very tall. But I wasn't wearing heels, just sports shoes. So whenever I get hugged, my face gets hit, so whenever I am hugged fiercely by a male actor, my nose always get squashed. It hurts! (Her voice is real cute here!) Also in the police station scene, my face was hit especially hard and the noise was really loud. Because I was hit so hard my head went backwards. So after that, whenever we filmed, we would first discuss whether things would be ok.

Host: We've seen that all the male actors you've co-starred with are Korea's top male stars, like JGS and YSY, and now LMH. How would you critique your three partners?

PSH: (another question that gets slightly mistranslated I think!) It hasn't been long since working with Minho-oppa. Geunsuk-oppa and Shiyoon-oppa too. Occasionally we will contact each other. Because our drama was aired at the same time with JGS' drama, we would now and then text "good luck" messages to each other. When our drama ended, JGS even texted, "you have worked hard".

Host: After filming with such big male stars, logically this would invite a lot of jealousy from females. But in contrast, you haven't met with this situation and in fact a lot of girls really like you. What do you think is the reason?

PSH: I have really thought about this question seriously! (laughs) Why?? I think it might be because of an open personality, because I'm not a very girly or very genteel style, and thus easier to get close to, that's the feeling; and also all my characters are not flip-flopping between two actors, she's always only had eyes for one guy, only likes one guy. A very decisive character. It's possible that for this reason, a lot of people like me.

Host: Another meaningful thing I also noticed is that you really like sports, especially baseball. You've done a first pitch a few years ago.

PSH: Yes I really like sports and also really like dancing. Throwing the first pitch was a great opportunity. Because as actors as our job, we are mostly seen through the lens of a camera, like singers we don't have much opportunity to interact directly with our fans and audience. So every time I get an opportunity, I will participate with more enthusiasm. (She's a sweetheart.) I like watching, I like doing them, I like a lot of sports.

Host: When I was watching the news, I heard you also want to join a martial arts school. Is this true? Why do you have these thoughts?

PSH: China has a lot of martial arts dramas and movies. I'm taken aback every time I watch them, so I really want to learn some Shaolin martial arts! I think it probably requires a lot of determination.

Host: This is very different from Eunsang's personality. Like the character in the drama. Have you considered that in future you'll do other roles unlike Eunsang? Something different, or even something action-oriented to try?

PSH: Yes I want to try. I prefer to be challenged.

Host: What are some roles you want to try but haven't tried?

PSH: What is there? Roles that have been dramas before? Secret agent. That sort. I would like to try. I also want to continue filming melodramas.

Hosts: Looks like we will see a different side of PSH. We're so happy to have you here today and a lot of our netizens also have a lot of questions so the following questions are asked by netizens. One asked, it's tough to work as an artiste. What do you do in your rest time to reduce stress?

PSH: To release stress, I do sports, sweat it out. This is good for your spirit and your health. Or I'll listen to my favorite song, play music loud and have a big cry. I'll also look for friends to talk it out vigorously.

Host: Quite a few ways!

PSH: Yes

Host: Another netizen asked, PSH's skin is glowing. Is there any personal skincare secret you do to take care of your skin that you can share with Chinese netizens?

PSH: (smiles so sweetly) I'm not the kind who takes very good care of her skin. When I'm filming, if I have a rest day, I will occasionally see a facialist. I feel that eating right and exercise is most important. Especially taking extra care during cleansing.

Host: Is there anything that your girlfriends don't do that you do? (wow this guy really wants PSH's great skin lololol)

PSH: It really is about eating well, sleeping well, exercising regularly. I think this is foundationally important. And taking cleansing seriously. And suncream. And anti-wrinkle cream products must be used.

Host: Meeting you in person, your skin is really too awesome! (lol this guy! And PSH smiles sheepishly). Another question, is that Chinese New Year is a big festival in China, and in Korea too. Netizens are very curious as to how you celebrate.

PSH: This year the plan is a family holiday. (I think she's a bit hesitant here for privacy reasons.) Because ever since my parents opened their restaurant, they haven't had a good rest at all. Yes.

Host: Is there anything special you do during the Spring Festival? Like eat something different?

PSH: Um, I'll eat deokguk in Korea. Deokguk (it's a rice cake, very common and yummy in Korean food.) Also we will go to Gwangju (not sure about this part) to make fried meat pancakes to eat. Other areas also do fried food. That's about what we do.

Host: Our last question for PSH is that... you know in 2014, "The Heirs" was extremely popular in China. Will you consider in the future, even more comprehensive development plans for your Chinese audience? What plans do you have?

PSH: Very much so. I would like that. In order for that to happen, opportunities have to be created. We're just starting now. CFs, or dramas, or movies are all good. I hope there will be good news in 2014, that I can interact with Chinese fans more.

Host: Which Chinese directors or actors would you like to work with?

PSH: Director John Woo, many directors. Yesterday at the awards I met Li Yifeng.

Host: Then we'll anticipate future projects with Yifeng or new shows in the future. Let's say a few words to the fans and people who are here.

PSH: Being able to meet everyone like this, I am very happy. I hope that from this opportunity, I can come often to see everybody. Thank you so much for loving "The Heirs". Happy New Year (and she says it again in Chinese.)

Host: Thank you! And hope everybody continues to show her support. Thank you Shinhye!
