Little drops of water and little steps of memories

My sister and I went out to buy some stationeries today. As usual, she mostly talked while I listened half consciously. On our way back, we stopped to pick up some groceries for mom. My sister bought some chips too. As we were leaving the store, the sky suddenly split open and began to rain. It was sunny one moment and the next, it was pouring; like in the movies. Perhaps, this is what they call Summer rain. It is not as romantic as it's name sounds. People were running helter skelter and the thunder did not sound pleasant. We could have waited but we knew mom was waiting for the groceries and we were both hungry. So, we stepped out of the store and into the rain. My sister immediately held up the plastic file folder she had bought for her school project over us. Mostly over me since I was holding the grocery packages. After a while, we stopped beneath another store.
"This is like the Korean movie The Classic. Do you remember, unnie*? She gushed.
I laughed. "They used a jacket in the movie."
"But still...it's similar." She persisted. "In the movie, it was the guy who was holding up the jacket. So since I'm taller, I'll be the guy and I'll hold this over you."
Then, we took off again. This time a little slower as we were both already wet. She began to hum the ost of the movie. It was this one by the band Wooden bike. I don't remember the title. Soon, I joined in. Of course, we didn't know the lyrics so we just made up words and hummed to some parts. It has been quite sometime since we did something silly together like this.  We were both giggling and after awhile, she didn't even bother to hold up the file folder anymore.
We reached home drenched and still giggling and singing. We gave mom her groceries and went off to change.
"Unnie*," she said, "that was fun."
It's been quite sometime since she said that to me.

Later, after lunch, we watched the movie again. Curled up with potatoe chips and pillows. Just like we used to back when she was nine and I was ten.

*It is a 2001 movie by Kwak Je young starring Son Ye jin, Jo Insung and Jo Seung woo.

I smiled while reading this. Have more pleasant memories with your sister. You're a blessing to each other.
