Losing Subscribers

Losing Subscribers.

Yep. We've all been through that.

I have to admit that the first time I lost subscribers, I died a little inside. There is something wounding about having to find out that somewhere out there in the world, there are a number of people who think that your story is not worth reading anymore.

There will be episodic rants of OMG, I'M A HORRIBLE WRITER, I SHOULD JUST CRAWL INTO A HOLE AND DIE.

We question the quality of our story. And then the quality of our writing. Then before we know it, we're doubting our very selves. It's an ugly but understandable cycle.

Thing is, there are times when the answer to the perennial question does my story really  is an unfortunate yes. It could be because of anything; your plot, your characters, your grammar or sometimes, even a combination of all the mentioned. Things is, you'll never know because the "un-subscription" just points to a general message of dislike or uninterest to your story as a whole.

So what can you do?

Write anyway. Write, write, write until your fingers break and your brain cells give out.

But don't just write. Strive to improve, as well. I will sound like a broken record player for this but I often say that writing is a never-ending process. You learn a lot of things as you go along. You will be overwhelmed by a string of criticisms and praises alike and while it is most flattering and fulfilling to receive the latter, the former is just as useful in your journey as a writer.

And hey! Don't let those few numbers of unsubscribers get you down. If anything, your remaining subscribers still tip the scales, right?

Which means that just as there are persons who have lost interest in your story, there are also other people out there who patiently wait for your next update, who spazz when their favorite character in your story got his/her happy ending and who cry when you write a particularly depressing or sad chapter.

I'm not sure why I even wrote this but I guess I just wanted to share my insights on this matter.

And I also want to thank my current subscribers. Thank you for bearing with me even though I haven't updated in ages. My muse has taken off without so much as a see you, er. But even that is a poor reason. OTL

Anyway, I can't thank you guys enough. Seriously, THANK YOU.

And to everyone, keep writing!

Good luck. =)

PEACE OUT!

Marie, why do you have to go out writing stuff that has everything to do with me? XD
OTL. Every time I go on a semi-hiatus (for example, this last exam) when I check that story out, I would go like, 'Huh? I thought I had this subscribers...'
Oh well, the feeling , and O.o
But it doesn't matter right?
If you really love writing and your passion is on it, you'll continue no matter what.
One day, people will learn to appreciate how better you've become =))

And sometimes, it's not even because of your writing. Some people just unsubscribe because their bias in the story died or something.

I read this before checking my subscriber count on my biggest story.
I lost 4 today.

I really just wish that the site would give unsubscribers a popup before being able to unsubscribe. It'd lessen the amount of people that do unsubscribe, and give authors feedback.
