For people who want sequels for stories:
Hey muzicians. ^^
A lot of people have been asking me for sequels for some of my stories and this is a note explaining why I do not take requests and why I do not really enjoy writing sequels.
I understand your feelings of wanting a sequel and that you guys mean well, but it all depends if I want to do one later on.
To be honest, I don't really enjoy writing sequels because I like to create different stories with different plots, and I soon forget how the characters in one story were characterized, etc, AFTER I finish writing a story and make a new one. It's kind of repetitive if I have to write with the same characters and force myself to think of new plots just because the readers want a sequel.
Original stories and plots are NOT forced out of the author's mind. Imagination takes time to evolve, and it's hard because updating stories frequently with new chapters is also very creativity-draining too.
I'm often sometimes tired even after I only write one chapter. Authors can have busy lives too. It's not easy to update 24/7.
And to be honest, I don't really enjoy making bad characters that try and mess up the main couple's relationship as a sequel for a story.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, and I have read many fics and sequels of stories with plots like that, but it depends on if I want to write the story or not, and what kind of plot I can conjure up for it.
Fanfics are the epitome of cliches, and you can write whatever you want in them. Cliches are very common and I use them frequently, too. It's not exactly something I believe you should be criticized for. Original storylines with a few cute cliche scenes here are there isn't a crime. It's a nice balance.
If you criticize authors who use cliches in their stories frequently, then you're basically criticizing the world, and literally more than half of the media. Clicheness is everywhere.
All in all, I'm saying that I try to bring a little bit of originality to my stories (although I usually add some clicheness and fantasy because hey, it's a fictionous story. You can write whatever you want in it), and I'd appreciate it if you guys understood that it's pretty tough to keep even one story ongoing, and it takes a lot of time and effort to even complete one story. It's an achievement, and something an author should be proud of (no matter if it's the best story in the world or the most unoriginal story in the world).
There's gonna be a day when authors on here are going to stop writing fanfics, maybe for many reasons. Plagiarism issues, lack of motivation, being too busy with school, work, or just with the world. There can also be a few authors that will continue writing fanfics (for that, I applaud you).
It's not that easy to just pop out a storyline. I really hope you guys understand that, and I sincerely thank you if you guys do.
I, for one, am not ever going to stop writing because of harsh criticism from ignororant people, or because of haters.
When the time comes that I stop writing fanfics, it will probably be the cause of a list of reasons. The most likely one being that I'd be too busy, or I would feel that writing stories slowly became something that I HAD to do, not because I thought it was fun.
Requests really tire and stress authors out, and it's tiring to repeat it over and over again.
Also, when I stop writing fanfics one day, I believe that you readers out there will not:
- copy
- save
- plagiarise
- store on devices (like cell phones)
- translate in another language
- repost without permission
- redistribute
- etc
on ANY of my stories, and respect my wishes as an author, regardless of whether or not I take them down or keep them up, right? ^^
And if you think that me saying that I don't want people saving my stories is selfish, then you're wrong.
There's nothing wrong with an author not wanting strangers to keep their stories. You can't trust people you don't know, and frankly, I wouldn't know what those people would do with my stories.
Sorry for the long note, but I do hope you read up until this far. Thank you for your continued support and I hope you will understand where I'm coming from! :)
