Update 6/16/12: I made this announcement on Twitter yesterday but I'm still getting asked these questions so I will post it again here. Authors now get additional karma points for every subscriber that they gain. I enabled this feature retroactively so that every author got a karma boost from their current subscribers.

Some of my friends were asking about their suddenly increased-karma-points.
So now, one karma point for one subscriber? Okay!
