In Sulli's defence

So it's been made "official" (and I say official with a grain of salt, nothing's official with SM) Sulli and Minho are playing the leads in SM's take on Hana Kimi and there seems to be mixed views.

Minho doesn't seems to be getting really any heat... even if he can't act... sorry, I really do love Minho but even his fans can see he's terrible at acting... but then again, the character he's been cast to play is one of the driest characters ever, the real only thing he needs is to be athletic so I guess I don't have much of a problem though...

Sulli though

I've stumbled on a few comments, most of them being "ew, sulli!" "but I wanted [insert SM girl] to be the lead" or "OMG Minho's so hot!"

apparently Sulli's not to popular with girls...

I'll be honest, I actually would have wanted either Krystal or Yoona to play the lead but when it comes down to it, Sulli beats them both when it comes down to acting- She started her career as a child actress and while most people take that title with a grain of salt I like to think her acting prowess is a bit more tuned in then most of SM's girls. Sulli's not my favorite girl in FX, she actually ranks really low on my list but that's only because her ability to sing/dance/rap isn't as good as her other band mates, her skills are very much the "face" of the group, the "cute" member and while that doesn't interest me (I am attracted to guys so she obviously doesn't appeal to me) she can act well.

if you've seen her in her previous works you'll see what I mean, this girl's alot more serious then we get to see on stage.

Another thing I want to point out is that Mizuki, the main character in Hana Kimi, isn't a tomboy, she's very much an athletic girly girl who, in a way, is an obsessed fan. She went all the way to Japan from America and lied about her gender to go to his school- she is very much a fangirl. Most of the drama's don't really touch on how very feminine she really is, I mean, Horikita tended to act dryly through out most of the show (I sort of blame this on the lack of chemistry between her and the male lead though) and Elle is very much a tomboy (she has a very distinct personality though and actually did have chemestry with her lead) - I'll be honest, I would not have minded seeing Amber play the lead, She's my favorite in FX so obviously I'd love to see more of her, but I also would like to see this story done right- I'd like to see the Mizuki character I fallowed through the manga finally get to step onto the silver screen.

I'm in no way saying that Sulli's the best choice, or that you shouldn't be disappointed, all I'm saying is that we should give her a chance- She can act, she seems like she could fit a "fangirl" type character and she looks good with short hair (I actually think she looks cuter with shorter hair) She'll act well so I don't think we have anything to worry about when it comes to Sulli...

now the last piece in the puzzle that's unavoidable- will she have chemistry with Minho or the other third of the triangle? being the best actor in the world won't get you anywhere if you don't have chemistry with your costars....

I guess that question will be answered when the show's out though- Here's looking to it, I hope SM and the director spend alot of time (and money)  into making this fit the manga, but I also hope they make it their own^^

here's hoping^^

The one problem I realised is that fangirls don't like Sulli at all. I know, she is, like you said, the member with the cuteness factor. But I don't mind at all. In fact, I was slightly startled by Minho acting again. I REALLY like Minho (I was ALMOST a Flamer once... almost) but, he shouldn't act. He... well... can't.
I don't really see the problem with Sulli (Weirdly, cause amber is my favourite too :3)but i guess she can pull it off.
Yeah...
