❊ initially, she seems very disinterested, unfocused and lacking of ambition. however, once she does find something to fixate on, wynnie is quick to turn her drive on. 

❊ she is naturally critical of all those that surround her; thinks and responds quickly rather than pondering for too long. she avoids being impulsive by being selective, but has her own reckless moments due to indecision. wynnie evidently enjoys being in leadership positions.

❊ this can also be seen in her confident strides - she says that nobody can tell her off or tell her what to do if she's already steps ahead in terms of looking the part. except her parents, obviously, who have sent her to hoenn and still play some role in her life decisions...

❊ never runs out of things to say. the type of person that has that one niche interest and is spitting random facts about it. in this case, wynnie talks about fashion and beauty quite a bit. matches well with good listeners because wynnie never shuts up in spite of her closed-off-ness with general public.

❊ wynnie doesn't take things too seriously until a realization hits her. or if it's well deep into the journey, much like how she's nearly 21 now with no interests to supplement her future. her voluntary detachment makes her seem weak-willed and careless.

❊ thrill-seeking and adventurous. yes, wynnie is no good with life plans (truly, the only arena she can see and articulate the details well in is her closet) and being rigid. she's very dynamic and likes last-minute things more than heavily structured plans. 

❊ incredibly intimidating exterior. she wants to look exclusive, elegant and not for everyone. doesn't really want to look approachable or friendly because she wants to save her “true self” to people she's interested in being acquainted with rather than others who chase her. this is where she appears closed-off, which she is doing intentionally.

❊ when people befriend her, they quickly realize that her looks don't always match up the things that come out of . a lot of people expect a friendship with wynnie where she's assertive but quiet, but are often met with sporadic texts and the usual “what are you wearing..?”

❊ that's not to say wynnie doesn't like being chased though! she lives for the attention. the type of person to say “any publicity is good publicity!” but don't expect her to return your endearment or efforts. there are people she only considers as watchers of her life, but never part of it.

❊ unfortunately, this makes her look snobbish, insensitive and selfish. she's very picky though, which could be a half-truth about her being a snob. 

❊ has a hard time communicating positive and appreciative comments to friends she actually is grateful for. it takes some time for people to translate things wynnie says in an almost nonchalant, shy way into a genuine sentiment. her bluntness only translates when it's something funny, snarky or pessimistic.

❊ despite being introverted, it does not necessarily make wynnie a pushover or someone easy to control. she's a domineering person who knows her boundaries, what she desires once a situation arises, and what she's worth, often times making her cool and confident to some, but egotistical and self-absorbed to others. 

❊ this being said... don't think wynnie's going to go out of her way to help you out if it means it compromises her own wishes. although she's not against harmless helping to others, especially when it's nothing personal, she won't hesitate to pick herself each time if it were ever an option.

❊ her love for beautiful things is admirable, but also makes her appear shallow. while some will be regretful and humiliated to admit that, wynnie prides herself in her fine taste. this is reflected in most of her lifestyle: social circle, the objects she's surrounded by and her pokemon. it becomes a real problem when she picks and chooses who to be friends with and acts y about it with no profound, real reason - except maybe she didn't like this person's hair? 

❊ despite her increasingly concerning, pessimistic and selfish outlook on life, somewhere inside wynnie is a curious girl who's willing to work towards anything she finds purpose in (even if she doesn't know it yet).

BACKGROUND gwyneth cho was born to audrey lim and axel cho, before they became notable in the unova region. prior to their big city move, the trio were settled in a small home in iki town, alola, alongside wynnie's grandmother on her mom's side. childhood was blurry for wynnie, especially the times that she was left with her grandmother in iki town. most of what she does remember was when her family finally moved to castelia city, unova, where her mother and father worked as a nurse-doctor duo for sick and injured pokemon at a specialty clinic.

 

they slowly built up status and stability, allowing wynnie's upbringing to be comfortable and slightly luxurious. everything was practically handed down to wynnie, seemingly to avoid the troubles faced by the two when they were just residents of a little alolan town. well, actions reap consequences, and wynnie growing to be the most particular princess was definitely an unavoidable one. 

 

as a child, wynnie didn't particularly see the need to find a passion. at least, one that meant being in it forever as an adult, like how her parents were called left and right for whatever reason. all she truly knew was the confines of her home, the pretty interior and dressing up stuffed pokemon toys for tea parties. apart from that, wynnie also traveled back to iki town every summer to visit her grandmother and to allow her parents to feel at-home. 

 

audi and axel aren't too strict, and they don't mind the woman that wynnie has grown into. the positives are shining and deserve love, but it is difficult to ignore the sluggish void that fills wynnie's career and most importantly, her future. it began to look up when she met a popplio in alola and brought it back home, but no rising slope had emerged since the events unfolded. audi, concerned with wynnie's routine of shopping, eating out and returning home with a blank face, ultimately suggested that she takes the summer to herself at hoenn with janna. despite the initial grunts and disagreements, axel had managed to convince his daughter to take the opportunity. in the end, wynnie's headed to hoenn, with just a tiny suitcase and her beloved eden.

wynnie and janna mirror each other in ways that can only be downfalls. the things they get along with are often ill-natured, like being impatient with others and failing to uphold tolerance. or, having literal judging sessions on what's in season and what isn't. perhaps, those are the only moments that one cannot see them disagreeing with one another, but agreeing in disagreement towards others. yeah. however, this is the very reason that audi and axel thought to send wynnie to janna. in spite of her shortcomings, janna is also dedicated and a public favorite, making her an ideal figure to mentor wynnie, or at least pose as some sort of role model for her. wynnie and janna do have an , a large one at that, and is often a root cause of their teasing. they may argue quite a bit, but a majority of these are banter, or petty bluntness from either side. wynnie does have to say, janna is a much better debater than she ever was. on the bright side, wynnie does already see janna as some sort of figure to look up to. this has been self-implemented as a child, when she'd visit them in unova and she was just working her way up the ranks. rather than an idolized gym leader, though, wynnie sort of sees janna as an older sister figure. the kind where you fight all the time, but at the end of the day, you still care for each other wordlessly. out of all the people in her life, though, wynnie gives in the extra effort to let janna know that she's appreciated, even if it's just through a gift or two.

 

  

wynnie's first impressions of aiden were much like all other trainers that encountered him. he looked brooding, icy and (present day wynnie would never admit to this one) outstandingly handsome. everyone has a teeny tiny crush on aiden kim when they first take a glance at him, and then he opens his mouth and the illusion cracks as quick as it materialized. for wynnie, perhaps even faster. despite her typical nonchalance to his overly-excited and humorous charm, wynnie actually does quite enjoy aiden's presence. he's not too desperate for people to like him and he respects that friends don't have to be attached to the hip 24/7. in some ways, wynnie thinks he's some kind of sociable, more put-together (despite his irresponsibility), male reincarnation of herself. that's what makes it so fun for the two of them to battle and compete who gets more pokemon on a certain day, or literally any form of harmless one-upping. of course, they have their clashing moments. having two egotistical twenty year olds doesn't pose well in desperate times; with one impulsive and the other too particular. the spotlight will often have to deal with either wynnie or aiden talking over one another and just never truly understanding what any of them are talking about. they're the type of friends that don't talk too profoundly on a regular basis, but rather, enjoy each other's physical company and doing social activities together. 

 

  

wynnie's relationship with her parents isn't too complicated. she knows that they just want the best for her, and she agrees intensely, but they often have disagreements on how to get there, or even the basis of what exactly is the ‘best’ that they're speaking about. little cat fights and conflicts are most common between audi and wynnie, with axel sandwiched in-between as a mediator. in fact, that's exactly what went down prior to her summer departure to hoenn. despite the arguments, wynnie wouldn't have wished for another family at all. she enjoys the privileges of being an only child and having both her mom and dad as some of the most selfless people she has ever encountered. she's often met with comments about how she's so starkly different from her parents' path to righteousness, though wynnie's thickheadedness and her parents' reassurance to find her own way never lets it get to her.

HELLO, AND THANK YOU FOR AGREEING TO THIS INTERVIEW. TO START OFF, PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF! wynnie clears , her eyes shifting from half-lidded and relaxed to widened and awake. she stares at aiden, as if he was a camera rather than an interviewer. “okay, i'm gwyneth, but everyone just calls me wynnie. i'm from castelia, unova and i'm just here for the summer to... figure myself out.” when she sees aiden's raised brow and teasing smile, she gives him a snarky look. she mutters, “you better be filming this or something!”

 

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT STARTING YOUR JOURNEY? NERVOUS? EXCITED? BOTH? recovering from the prior question's antics with aiden, wynnie nods along. “not really nervous. i don't think i've ever really felt nervous for anything that's supposed to be fun. i like a good adventure, and if i get to one up you, it'll be ten times worth it.” she puts on a big smile on her face, “they don't call me miss worldwide for nothing!” 

 

I SEE. WHAT ARE YOUR OPINIONS ON TRAVELING WITH OTHERS? wynnie swipes her tongue across the inside of her cheek, making a click sound and a rather interesting expression. her brows are a bit furrowed as she continues her motions, “i think i'm more used to traveling in small groups, like with my parents. but i've traveled quite a lot before so this shouldn't be too hard if we go with the flow.” she nods in approval of her answer but quickly speaks up to make comments. “by flow, i mean mine. i mean- i guess someone else can lead, even though i think it'd be great if i did. no pressure..?”

 

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SUMMER? wynnie's quick to continue after the question is barely done, overlapping aiden's words at the very last second. “pretty views, pretty people. of course, pretty pokemon!” coming down from her initial excitement, wynnie tilts her head to the right to indicate her train of thoughts, trying to think of something beyond pretty. “i guess i am looking forward to doing something with my summer and not just sit around. which i'd take any day but after, like, 19 summers like that maybe it is time for a change~” 

 

LASTLY, WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THIS JOURNEY? “i hate to be like other people,” she narrows her eyes at aiden, quirking her lips playfully upwards.“but i guess i do want to find out more about myself- or what i can be in the future.” wynnie continues as her index finger intertwines with a wavy strand of her hair, twirled and twisted at every second. “i just wonder the kind of person i can be once i do find out what i want, you know?”

  

eden is wynnie's first ever pokemon, found in alola last summer during her annual family trips to her parents' hometown. despite not obtaining a starter pokemon formally, wynnie managed to bond with a popplio. after unintentionally rescuing it from a group of hunters (throwing away the rope loop intended to catch popplio to the opposite direction and back to the hunters, since it annoyed her and was getting in the way of the beach waves), attempting to steal her whilst distracted by her ambition to blow a bubble larger than her form, popplio immediately attached itself to wynnie's hip. unaware of what she'd done but enjoyable flustered by the affection, the two have formed a friendship closer than wynnie could have ever imagined. 

❊ eden is hyperactive and cheerful, never afraid to bust out a few tricks to lighten up wynnie's mood. however, she tends to know when to stop and be quiet, only offering physical affection as a way to show comfort and companionship.

❊ she has a tendency to tire herself from extensive dedication to perfecting her bubbles and dancing.

❊ a bit of an attention hogger, both eden and wynnie. while eden likes being seen as friendly, energetic and entertaining, wynnie likes to be seen as elegant, stylish and untouchable.

❊ eden does not stay in her pokeball and likes to be cradled by wynnie most of the time.

❊ wynnie does like cradling eden, especially when traveling in different regions due to her overprotectiveness towards hunters or poachers.

❊ if wynnie is visibly irritated at something or someone, eden blows water balloons at said thing or person without instruction. perhaps, wynnie's favorite thing about eden.

❊ much like her partner, eden has a fondness for pretty things.

❊ undoubtedly, eden is the pokemon that wynnie feels the strongest emotional connection to. 

❊ eden will evolve into a brionne and finally, a primarina over the course of their journey, shifting into a water fairy type eventually.

 

  

torchic is the starter pokemon that wynnie will choose when she arrives in hoenn, greeted with irritation from her gym leader cousin, janna, who was rooting for mudkip. despite the shallow start, kirin and wynnie are not a pair to underestimate as they begin a new chapter of the summer together. 

 

  

on a particularly fine day, wynnie and sian strolled in rustboro city. somehow, wynnie can't wipe the smile off her face in the presence of the boy. it seemed as if her smile enveloped the entire energy of her being, giving out a more light-hearted and positive aura than usual. so, when wynnie trips over something that looks like a green-headed mushroom (?) laying on the ground, she doesn't think much of it and quickly apologizes to the seemingly inanimate object. the afternoon goes on, the pair never noticing a curious, warm and amazed ralts trailing behind them at every step (or waddle, in this case). it isn't until it bumps into wynnie's calf that they're alerted of its' presence. once she recognized the green bowl-cut of the pokemon, wynnie was in disbelief. did she step on a pokemon..? because of some cute, nice guy? hence the exaggerated sprint to the pokemon centre to check on its condition. as wynnie nestled the ralts in her arms, the rest became history.

 

JOURNEY HISTORY in some way, wynnie's move to hoenn was already a kickstarter to embarking on a pokemon journey. the thing is, at the beginning of the summer, she has no idea what she's truly there for apart from her parents' concern over her ‘passionless’ life trajectory. the closest she's ever gotten to actually having a pokemon journey was the previous summer, with eden. since then, it's just been her and wynnie's quite content with that (for the first time in her obnoxiously demanding life). but as she packs her bags and is greeted by her contrastingly successful cousin, she might need that extra push by the squad to find something she's never even dreamed of.

 

DREAM in the beginning of the summer, her time at hoenn with the others was a little misled. or no direction at all, since she didn't really know what to do. as the journey progresses, wynnie finds herself in a much better place when she finds out about pokemon coordinators and how they work. she thinks it's a perfect fit for her blossoming interest in pokemon and her existing love for aesthetics, but has yet to build the pokedex to even begin her career.

 

❊ her favorite typing is fairy or psychic. water comes second.

❊ her least favorite typings are rock and ground. it's the color palette.

❊ she has a very prominent soft spot for pokemon, even if it's the ones she considers.. not too pleasing to the eye. wynnie is more willing and eager to help and engage with pokemon than people. this has to do with the environment and values both her healer parents brought her up by.
