"Your eyes that look at me-- are they sad and talking of goodbye, baby?"

Despite the lyrics being sad, this is another one of my go-to comfort songs.

This is "Y," a song released by Super Junior in the year 2011 with their Mr. Simple comeback. It's towards the end of the album, helping to close it out with a gentle note and relax listeners before the contrasting "My Love, My Kiss, My Heart."

The first few seconds of the song introduce it perfectly, with the simple guitar melody and twinkling sounds before they start singing. (Please forgive me, I have no idea what that instrument is called. The closest result I got is a celesta, but listening to it, it doesn't sound quite as similar.) The beat is somewhat subtle and easy to follow along with, really helping the song to move forward. I like how hints of synth complement it in the chorus, and how the guitar melody became more complicated in the rap verse to go along with their words. So good.

I love their vocals in this song! It's all so gentle and sweet, and sort of tickles my ears, hehe... Even the rap! It flowed so beautifully and I look forward to it every time I listen to it.

But, like I mentioned before, the lyrics are rather sad. It explores their regrets after someone ended a relationship with them-- a relationship they (SJ, I mean,) weren't ready for, even though they loved the person so much and still do. They can't go a day without thinking of the one they lost, getting anxious if they don't!

Regret, angst, longing, and a belief that they will come back... All of those things, tied into a neat package with soft instrumental. A perfect thoughtful, sad song.

Here is the audio. I hope you enjoy~~~: Y
