They are of a middle class family, where her father works as a regional manager for an accounting firm, and her mother as an operations executive. They are not rich, but are living comfortably. She has an elder brother, Axel, who is pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Science at Cambridge University. As for her, owing to wanting to go out and explore the world outside of the UK, she decided to apply for a scholarship to an undergraduate film course offered by the USC, which she has been successful in, and is currently in her second year of her course as an international student.

Before going for classes, Estee will wake up at 6 a.m. every day to go for a morning jog, catching the sun rise over the horizon while doing so. After which, she will carry on with 15 to 30 minutes of muscle strengthening exercises before going for breakfast at 8 a.m. and heading off to classes, if any. If she does not have any morning classes, she will take time to work on her projects for classes and her club, Brand New Theatre. She will then go for lunch with her close friends before going off for her afternoon classes. On Tuesday and Friday evenings, she attends her club meetings and training. As much as possible, she tries to get her work done before 12 a.m., but on busy days, she will stay up until 1 or 2 a.m. latest if required.
Never underestimate how little her class schedule looks. It may look as though she is not taking much, but those modules come with loads of hard work that takes up a sizable percentage of her time outside class.
When she is not doing school work or club work, she works part-time as an advertiser, where clients such as H&M or KFC approach her to take aesthetically pleasing photos and videos to promote their businesses on social media. Clearly, she does not rely solely on her parents’ money and scholarship during her stay so far in Los Angeles.
She seldom attends fraternal parties, which is of stark contrast to her best friend, Julia. As such, one never sees her drunk, as she assumes the role of a caregiver instead.

❀ Movies and dramas ever since her parents brought her to watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and she fell in love with the world of the wizards, she has been hooked on movies since. At the age of 8, she expanded her interests to include dramas, some of her favourites being comedy series like Mr. Bean and Glee. As she grew older, while continuing to expand her interests in movies and television dramas, she also started to analyse them, bit by bit, taking joy in attempting to predict what happens next and what excites her most.
❀ Food she is big on food, especially Korean, Japanese and Chinese food! She especially loves eating Korean stews such as doenjang-jjigae and kimchi-jjigae. Some of her favourite Japanese foods include spicy ramen and Chawanmushi, and who can forget sushi and salmon sashimi? As for Chinese food, nothing more like a steaming plate of pot stickers or xiaolongbao as late night snacks!

To Estee, her parents and brother are the best family members she could ever ask for. Her parents are known to expect a lot from her and her older brother, be it through their studies or helping around the house, but they are reasonable, too. It is their top priority to foster a good relationship between the four of them by organising family activities, from movie nights to barbecues to picnics and even overseas trips. Furthermore, whenever Axel and Estee are facing troubles, their parents are around to listen to them and give them guidance to the best of their ability. As for Axel, he is nothing less than a kind older brother towards Estee, always looking out for her and helping her out in her homework. Even though Estee is currently studying in the US, she still maintains a close relationship with her family, video calling them weekly and making trips back to the UK to visit them when the holidays arrive.

In order to help Estee find her way around USC and the USA, Axel contacted one of his best friends, Justin, a Taiwanese-American working as an architect in Manhattan, New York. Justin’s sister, Julia, is currently a junior studying in USC, majoring in Architecture and staying in her parents’ summer apartment in Los Angeles, and was asked to take care and look out for her. Estee moved in with her, and has been paying her rent since her freshman days.
To Estee, Julia is like a sister from another mister. She is there to help guide her, and introduce her to the American lifestyle. Believe it or not, Estee and Russell go all the way back. It all started from her parents, who used to work in Singapore, and befriended Russell’s parents before they returned to the UK to start a family. Even though their parents are living in two different countries, they kept in close contact with one another. This is how Estee and Russell got to know each other, meeting up once a year when Russell’s family travels to the UK, or when Estee’s family visits them in Singapore. When they are unable to meet up, they keep in contact by messaging each other on Whatsapp.
Wanting to keep his exchange with USC a surprise, he did not tell Estee about it. However, it turns out that Estee was one step ahead (to Julia’s credit), for during one of the frat parties that she was forced to attend, she met Russell once again!
After realising that he is in USC on an exchange programme, they meet up every other week to explore Los Angeles. It is during one of these meet ups that he invites Estee to join him and his friends on a road trip, and with much persuasion from him and Julia, reassuring her that it will be fun and not at all awkward, she finally agrees to it

Estee has seen her several times around school, when she is together with Russell and Leon. However, she does not really know her until the day of the road trip itself. It is Vanessa who takes the first step in getting to know Estee, when she compliments her for her photography and videography skills when visiting a restaurant. Although they are not very close (since Estee takes a really long time to make friends with people), they are pleasant to each other, able to sit around each other in comfortable silence, and they both discuss about Russell sometimes for God knows why.

When out for dinner on a Saturday night, Estee was dining (and working for a client (the restaurant itself) at the same time by taking pictures of the food) when she encountered a brawl some tables away between a girl, a guy, Seth and Leon. She helped Seth and Leon to diffuse the argument over a table by inviting them to sit with her.
The second time they met is during the road trip, and they exclaimed what a coincidence it was. Since then, Leon started chatting more with her, and slowly but surely, they became rather close to each other during the trip, mostly chatting casually to each other. On some nights, they can be seen getting late night snacks from a nearby convenience store together with Russell and Vanessa.

Similar to Leon, Estee first met him when she helped them avoid a fight with two other diners at a restaurant she was dining and working at. She then saw him around school, once at a frat party he co-hosted, and two or three times when walking to and from her classes. They do not have much in common, besides their love of food, to be more specific, spicy food. Unlike Leon, they are not really close to each other, but they are on good terms and both of them are able to hold the occasional conversations between each other.

Estee only meets Kallie during the actual day of the road trip herself. Admittedly speaking, the two don’t get along very well initially, but this changes over time during the road trip. One night, when Estee is editing a group photo of the travellers and Kallie walked in on her, she finally decides to break the ice and talk to Kallie, which helps them to understand each other better, hence growing closer to each other during the trip, where they both have fun exploring the sights and sounds around them. While Estee shares more about her photography experience, Kallie shares some juicy gossip in return.

Also, now I think about it, it’ll be a great opportunity for me to take photos and videos of the West Coast, which can help transcribe the journey onto a tangible medium, remind us of the fun we had while travelling, and it’ll also come in handy when applying for photography or film related jobs." But I’d rather a mocktail or a soda over alcoholic drinks anyday. Honestly, I’ve no idea what my alcohol tolerance is, nor what I do when I get drunk, since I never get drunk anyway."

I’d like to think that I’m a pretty good driver, but I’m not confident of driving over 100 kilometres per hour (and being safe on the road while doing so), and to be honest, drivers can be a real pain in the when trying to deal with them on the road. Since I’m an international student here, I don’t have my own car I can use, so I use Julia’s Mercedes-Benz C300 Cabriolet instead, and she’s allowed me to borrow her car for the trip since she’ll be overseas. It’s all good."

As I look through the apps I’ve written thus far, I must say that I’ve really changed quite a bit in the way I write my characters (as well as my coding skills, though I still have a long way to go), so why not try to rewrite my first app in the way that I would write these days?Besides my creativity is currently at an all time low ha
