About comments, upvotes, reading, writing

So recently, I've been going back into writing, and I've noticed some things and have also been working on changing some habits.

Writing really takes a lot of work. You spend hours planning the story, stressing out over each phrase, sometimes even going back to edit a chapter over and over again after you've posted it. You constantly feel like a bummer but you really want to express the things in your head. And honestly, when a reader gives you a comment that really captures what you've tried to show, it really makes you feel another kind of way.

I'm very grateful that there are some of you out there who really take your time to comment on my chapters, tell me what you like and don't like, engage with the material. I just want to say that it really goes a long way. I think about it when I write, and it makes me want to update faster, so I can show you more of my thoughts. I know how hard it is to be left hanging on a story, and I've been a culprit of that for so long, so I'm really trying to actually write my stories and deliver what I've promised.

In the same vein, another thing I've tried to do is really to stop being a silent reader. I understand life gets in the way, but at the same time I think after feeling all warm and fuzzy when I read a comment, I've come to realize the authors of the fictions I read deserve the same. It's not rocket science, I know, but I think I used to be the person who would just read and go okay, then bye.

Fanfiction is free, at the end of the day. It's what we do to kind of escape from reality a little. But I think interacting with authors/readers, and I mean both - for authors to reply to comments, reach out to readers, and for readers to reach out to authors - will really make this place feel a lot more like home.

No guilt-tripping here! Just coming from someone who feels AFF is the community I loved and grew up with, and now I still want to make it a place that lasts for a long time, despite the tidal waves changing the course of fandoms, entertainment, etc.

Also would like to take a moment to thank my readers who spare time from your schedules to write comments for me. It means a lot. A LOT. And to all the writers out there producing amazing content, that I will do my part to make sure your hard work is appreciated <3

Hope everyone has a nice day.
