please introduce yourself.

hanee bows a full ninety degrees before introducing herself, "it's nice to meet you and taking your time to meet me here, my name is na hanee and well," she proceeds to take one of her business cards from her cardholder, "i lead a team in brand management which is a part of marketing and this year, i'm twenty seven years old. sorry for the fuss, i could only make some time during the lunch break because the team is very busy right now and later, i have to pick up my child."

tell us about your baby.

hanee smiles at the thought of dalbit, "our dal? she's the light, the full moon, the sun and all the stars for me," there is a wistful look in hanee's eyes, full of nostalgia and mixed feelings, "she's a healthy, vibrant child and well, i'm quite grateful that she's growing up better than i thought." if you did not know hanee well, you'd think she was about to burst into tears but no, na hanee's tearful eyes were wiped and the professional, resilient team leader aura returned.

what are your goals?

there was a few seconds of silence before hanee proceeded to answer, "to be a good person, a good adult, a good mother... someone who sticks to their integrity and never gives up... that kind of person was what i found to be cool, rather than someone who possessed this and that." hanee paused and broke into a faint smile, "that's why even if my higher-ups don't believe a young single mother to hold a higher position than a team leader, as long as dalbit can still eat well and sleep well, i have no regrets."

what does it mean to be a mother to you?

a slight sting vibrated within hanee's whole being. the flashbacks of painful words, be it through colleagues gossiping with one another in the refreshment room or through whispers of passerbys, returned to hover through her mind. "many people don't know how much it means to be a mother and how heavy the shoulders are but to put it in a sense, it means the universe to be able to hold a small milky way, a small star, a small moon in your hands and call it yours. that's how i feel about dalbit... perhaps, that's why i named her that."

what are your thoughts on together?

hanee smirked, "finally, a chance to not live with jaemin anymore." her response gained faint laughter and she was quite satisfied. "well, that's a small bonus but i do think it's a big honour to be able to be a part of this project or program. it means a lot to possibly become a motivation to pull through for other single mothers."

how do you think it'll be with the other mothers?

"well there's only one way to find out, no?" hanee chuckled. "i hope my waking up early in the morning doesn't disturb the other mothers' schedules. i'm already sorry for causing a ruckus because i work a lot of hours in a day but such is the reality of a working person and more so, as a working single mother."

an outsider view on 나하늬.

the ups and downs of the road ahead make youth a painful yet beautiful time in life, they say and such a saying had made sense for na hanee. the ups of the days she walked hand-in-hand with her lover as an up-and-coming career woman were soon met with the long days of being down. how can she feel down and out when her lover left her the moment her pregnancy test showed positive, forcing her to live on as a single parent? however, na hanee doesn't stray for long as she gets back up, puts on her business atire and head back to work because she's an adult with responsibilities. not just that, well, she has an extra mouth to feed, after all so she can't just lie around and feel bad for herself.

“na hanee? who doesn’t know na hanee? i mean, she’s an absolute joy to be around, y’ know?”

voted as “most likely to survive anywhere she goes” in her high school yearbook, hanee is often labelled as a popular kid and with good reasons. from the moment she introduces herself, you’ll know that she’s someone who can get along with anyone. the air around her is a cool spring breeze and she’s often able to strike conversations with those around her, connecting and getting to know them easily. hanee has the gift of speech, knowing just what to say and when to say it. she knows better when not to pray and when to push forward through her sharp reading of the room. you’d be surprised to know she remembers your favorite idol groups, ice cream preferences and small habits.

“seriously, don’t those people know words can hurt more than an actual knife? i can’t believe them!"

the energy she carries with her can be defined as the source of her friendliness and eloquence. hanee can always bring in positivity and enthusiasm to a room, the main reason she’s often the glue that keeps her trio of friends going. hanee knows her gift of speech is her strong point, using it to be able to mediate a situation or to control the flow of conversation. everything she says has importance, making it clear why she's a likeable figure at her office.

“maybe i’m getting in over my head. the more i fall into the crowd, the easier i get anxious over my surroundings”

yet, there are sides to hanee she doesn’t show others. always being so aware of her surroundings causes her to be vulnerable and have a knack for interpreting criticism to become something painful. hanee would always be courteous in the face of criticism and the office hierarchy but it’s often something small that gets her worked up because she’s always giving meaning to everything. she’s always sincere with her words and speech, letting it to shadow over how she perceives others. the more she’s friendlier and approachable, the more the non-existing hidden meanings of those around her leave her worried and restless.

“i’m na hanee; the big sister, the first child, the pride of my family. i can’t just falter. i have to stand tall. i have to be something worth it but why...”

hanee has always put a lot of thought into how she wants to be remembered by others in her life. now, the more she’s blending in with society and the office hierarchy , the more hanee finds herself becoming lenient with those around her. she tends to let everyone around wreak havoc and push her around even if she knows the consequences. she’s not happy with what she’s slowly becoming and knows that she needs to stop the chain reaction. she’s always been so reliant on herself to be able to stand up for herself and her own problems that it’s become hard for her to let loose since she trusts her moral compass too much. even if she’s sharing her problems with her friends, they know too well; na hanee is still going to do what her compass tells her even in the face of danger.

the stages of life.

hanee’s family is much like any other metropolitan middle-class family. a working father, a working mother, her and her younger brother. her father is currently working as an engineering director in hyundai engineering & construction while her mother is a kindergarten teacher . their family was able enough to hire a day-to-day housekeeper to watch the two siblings. she spend her first eleven years in her birthplace of daegu before ultimately relocating to seoul with her family due to her father’s work  permanently stationing him in seoul.

the void that formed due to her parents’ dedication to their jobs became evident but hanee never caved, she understood that their dedication was also to provide for her and her brother. she had friends that could help her get through it and worked hard to be able to satisfy herself and those around her. she easily integrated herself in her new environment. she ended up pursuing marketing as a major because she was always so confident in her speaking and the way she is interested in the art of promoting and researching the target audience. her parents were supportive of her choice as they’ve always let her do whatever she wanted as long as they could support it.

coming from an all-girls middle school and high school, she never knew much about interacting with guys except when she’s with her younger brother. during university, she keeps her distance from male students unless necessary but then again, she was only twenty-one when she first met yoon jaeho.

the rest became history.

loves to eat ice cream when she's sad. her favorite flavor is dark chocolate and mocha.

important people in her life.

na jaemin, '00. university student, majoring in physical education, part-time barista at tlj.
her adorable younger brother who grew into an energetic young adult, jaemin is tha brother who'd be a big pain in the but can also be the one who'd wish you only the best. the two don't bicker as much as they did. they tell each other things they'd never tell their parents and on a daily basis, would showcase their closeness on social media. they currently live together in hanee's apartment with dalbit so hanee's become way too used to jaemin's shenanigans even if he is a loving uncle to dalbit and had called out the baby father several times for what he did to his sister. nobody messes with his sister other than him.

do remi, '94. software engineering assistant manager.
remi has graced hanee's life as her best friend since middle school and they both went to the same university, though with different majors. remi is the one hanee relies on for support and a shoulder to cry on. remi will never let anyone hurt hanee and hanee is always capable of taming remi's temper and laugh at all of remi's jokes. despite the fact that they are working in different companies thus having different lifestyles, they can always count on each other to rant and throw caution to the wind whenever they're together. remi often comes over to play with dalbit whenever she's free after work or on the weekends because she knows how hard it was for hanee during the pregnancy. (fc: eunseo, wjsn)

na juhwan, park sooae, '64, '67. engineering director in hyundai engineering & construction + kindergarten teacher.
hanee's parents never spared any limit to make sure the siblings lived off well despite their slight absences due to their day jobs. they had always been supportive of the siblings' decisions. hanee's mother had always been kind and upbeat, befitting of her job as a kindergarten teacher so hanee and jaemin often talked to her about any school events or anything personal in particular. it is often when the three are talking that their father comes home and joins in on the conversation thus making it possible for the whole family to bond. announcing her pregnancy to her parents was not easy for hanee because she knew them well enough to know that such a news (a sudden pregnancy) was very unlike her. she roped jaemin into helping her break the news and unexpectedly, they took it well until her father to tell hanee to grab the baby father and bring him home so he could give him a good scolding. what followed afterwards was quite a sensation. her parents do not blame hanee at all for the baby and regardless of the circumstances, they were to have a grandchild so her parents made sure to support and assist her in raising and taking care of the baby. hanee's child was to be raised with the utmost love because they are family and family leaves nobody behind.

dokgo joo, '95. webtoon artist/writer (mystical), part-time barista at tlj.
several life-changing relations start from coincidences and such is the manner in which joo and hanee met and formed a bond. it was through jaemin as both joo and jaemin shared the same shift hours as part-timers at TLJ. hanee met joo one day as she was taking over the counter and hanee was with dalbit who wanted to see jaemin and get him to make her his specialty. the two young mothers shared chit-chat about dalbit and that's when joo asked jaemin for hanee's contact. because for some reason, deep inside, joo perhaps felt envious and admired by hanee. the moment the latter walked in hand-in-hand with dalbit clad in her business suit and natural makeup, joo thought to herself, "ah, if i only i could do the same..."

the two would definitely bond and have each other's backs. hanee and the twins would have playdates sometimes on the weekends as the two mothers try and keep them in place. hanee will teach joo several things about life and childcare, causing the two to be able to find solice in one another.

daily life.

working in a private corporation with a somewhat ordinary office job, hanee starts her day earlier than usual now that she's got dalbit. life that once started seven thirty in the morning now starts at five as she wakes up to prepare breakfast for dalbit and get dressed. she often makes a light breakfast for herself and dalbit before dalbit is awake at six. it takes about thirty minutes for dalbit to be ready to go out before hanee drives dalbit to drop her off at the daycare center near her office. after dropping dalbit off, hanee goes to work. it takes thirty minutes by car if she went from her apartment straight to work but since she drops dalbit off first, it takes half the time to get to the office.

hanee is at work from 8am to 9pm, even until 11pm sometimes when working overtime which she still does even after having dalbit as her parents or brother (or even remi, at certain times) often comes to pick up dalbit from her daycare center and take care of her before she wraps up at work. hanee does try to pick dalbit up herself whenever she finishes her work quickly at 8pm. after spending all day at work, she takes a warm shower before caring for dalbit. she usually sleeps around 1am after doing some household chores and organizing things (usually includes meal-prepping as well) for the next day.

life as a newly promoted team leader has made it possible for her to wiggle away from office drinking parties that used to push her sleeping hours. it's understandable, since she has dalbit now so after work, she often goes straight to dlabit's daycare center or home. friday nights are usually spent with her friends and/or family or at home with dalbit. thankfully, her office doesn't require her to go to work on the weekends so on weekends, she wakes up a bit early before going to a pilates class to unwind her stress and spends time with dalbit on the weekends.

plot: orange (you glad it's almost friday?).

dal was originally due march 20 before being born prematurely. hanee was watching a movie when jaemin came home from class to find that her water had broke.

❁ dalbit is very good at talking.
❁ when asked what is her favorite food, dalbit answers mandu and pancakes.

❁ since jaemin is a barista, sometimes he would bring iced chocolate or any non-coffee drink home that he made at the store for dalbit which she really loves.

❁ dal once told hanee she likes taeyeon, IU and coldplay a lot.

personality.
positive. creative, patient, friendly
negative. reticent, stubborn, fastidious

when you get to know hanee's little princess, you can definitely tell that she's hanee's daughter because she has the same energy you get from hanee. dal is like a ball of warm energy and hanee's told by the daycare teachers that dal makes friends easily with her approachable and talkative nature. dalbit, though still very young, has already shown her artistic potentials as hanee notices her creativity. she expresses herself through drawing with colors and enjoys reading picture books or watching movies with hanee or jaemin. hanee's relieved and rather thankful that dalbit grew up to be a patient child. she never whines about missing her during her office hours and always understands hanee's job, something difficult for a two-year old child to acknowledge and tell. hanee always goes home to a daughter that doesn't mind her working, grew from the tears of missing her and instead finds other things from around her to focus on.

of course, that's what hanee has summed up because to be honest, her daughter is rather hard to read. was that something she got from her baby father? not that she doesn't express herself, dalbit talks a lot and rather loves to talk to people. for hanee and those close to her, they've noticed that dal takes time to talk about things that matter to her like her feelings and thoughts. daycare teachers tell hanee that it's because dalbit doesn't want to bother her after she comes home from work so dal comes up with ways to just not talk about it. another noticeable trait that isn't from hanee is that dalbit is rather stubborn with things she does or feels and it connects with her rising perfectionist approach. she keeps trying until she's satisfied and before that happens, dalbit's not pleased with herself and won't rest. dal knows what she wants and she won't stop to make it something worth showing her mother.

relationship.
hanee and dalbit are two people who only have each other to depend on in the world and due to such circumstances, they've loved each other more than anything in the world. hanee has never felt ashamed or regret for having dalbit and it shows in the way she always cares for dalbit even in the middle of her busy hours at work. hanee always feels overflowing emotions whenever dalbit praises her at the end of the day. that's all she ever wants to hear from dal. even if others may think it's trivial, hanee cannot ignore that she cares about what dalbit thinks of her. she always wants dalbit to be able to look over her as someone worthy of being respected and so, like how na hanee has always been, sometimes overthinks about it.

hanee hopes that she and dalbit can maintain their harmonious relationship. when dal has grown up a bit, hanee wants to makes sure she normalizes telling dalbit sincerely about their family. they were just different than other families and that's what makes her special but she doesn't have to worry because she has hanee as her mother and she can always rely on her to know how to help her in life. despite being fatigued or stressed about work and being a single mother on top of maintaining her career, hanee's always able to pull a smile in front of her daughter and even if dal asks her whether or not she's not tired, hanee is not afraid to say, "yes, sometimes i get tired, sometimes i get sleepy but when my daughter's around, i feel like my energy is recharging again like a phone battery."

since jaeho doesn't want anything to do with dalbit, hanee and her family don't consider him a part of the family but hanee has forgived and forgotten him altogether for dalbit's sake so that when dalbit's at the age to ask about her father, hanee can approach the conversation well.

personality.
positive. confident, caring, level-headed, calm
negative. demanding, untalkative, fickle, stubborn

"yoon jaeho is an enigma, to say the least. a paradox in a world that proved more than not ironic in nature.

chin held high, shoulders a straight line out of confidence with a gaze that proved to be humane in nature. the calm air that followed him and the noiseless steps that often make his entrance unannounced. was it only natural that with such a personality that resembles the unknown depths of the ocean, lies an unexpected heart that beats with empathy and care towards others? was it only natural that such a contrast between blue and red seemed attractive to me?

yet, not even the rough waves and cold winter ocean could conceal the jet black entities that make of his shortcomings. the ruthless career man who held his cards close to his chest, so close that you could never read his next move. the ambitious youth that at the end of the story, became the traitorous knight who joined the army of the pity army. the former lover who pushed through all of my words and left regardless of what was built between us...

such a man, such a human deserves no place and no mention in the life of mine and dalbit's."

history.
her senior in university who she ended up dating for until christmas of 2018. he was many of her firsts and for hanee who came from an all-girls high school, jaeho was just so sweet and reliable. you could say that she was head over heels for him but so was he. everyone in campus envied their relationship as jaeho had always taken care of her and prepared mini events every now and then since he became busy after getting a job right away upon graduating.

hanee soon graduated after jaeho and everything was going well for the two since they finally had stable jobs. their companies were in the same area as one another and often worked together on certain projects. jaeho became a big help for hanee as she always confided in him after a long day at work.

that was until hanee found out she was pregnant. the pregnancy test showed two lines. she tried to remember when it happened. it was a night of an office party between jaeho's and her company, celebrating a success of a joint deal. jaeho and her went back to jaeho's place after the party and... the following events led to the positive pregnancy test.

deep down, hanee wanted to believe that jaeho wouldn't mine. they were happy together and stable so this shouldn't have been a problem, right? well, upon knowing hanee's pregnancy, jaeho didn't want to take responsibility for the baby which led to hanee's outrage. she was disappointed and devastated at his indifference and lack of responsiblity so she broke up with him. jaeho agreed, his last words being "i'll make sure to wire you the child support, a big amount at once so you don't have to deal with me anymore but don't tell me to be this baby's father. just live on." hanee cursed him under her breath. after all they've been through, this is how he repays her?

the world's countries had improved with its views on single mothers but south korea was not one of them just yet. rumors soon spread about jaeho and hanee along with the news of her becoming pregnant. it was an awful time for hanee but thankfully, several of her co-workers and supervisors were there to support her decision to keep the baby. hanee figured that her buckling down to the pressure is her defeat so no matter how disgusting and ruthless the world was, hanee was going to show them and her soon-to-be-born baby that she made it through.

it's been many months (a good two years!) since the breakup and jaeho's walking away from hanee's and dalbit's life. hanee's convinced herself that she's lived on quite strongly and nicely since then even though things looked bleak for her at the start. she's shut down the idea of opening her heart out to a new love and is living only for dalbit's sake. until...

“there’s something about changmin that’s always so soft but powerful you can’t really point out”

ji changmin is much like na hanee, in so many ways. more than you’d imagine. one that you’d label as the friendly guy in class, not many can point out something bad about him. he’s always so helpful and cooperative around others during team situations.

it’s his loyalty and understanding that his friends can really vouch for. he’d do what it takes to make a friend cheer up and will never let a small obstacle shake your friendship with him. his warmth and comfort is something that he tries to spread to those around him. he always wants you to know that he’s there for you and that he wishes only the best. his determination to achieve what he wants to do and his dedication to how he wants to achieve it are admirable to those close to him. he’s definitely the type to comeback stronger after a fall and he’ll let you know that through his process.

“okay but maybe, he should learn how to grow a spine and be a bit more lenient with himself.”

under that determination and dedication, lies a perfectionist in changmin. he’s always striving to get things done right and exact to the point of perfection. sure, it helps a lot towards the end product but it’s often damaging when he doesn’t give himself some slack for slow progress. his impatience may prove to be something that hinders his judgement at critical moments and others often tell him to slow down and learn to be more accepting towards the process. wanting something to be perfect too fast is a regular plot point in changmin’s life.

ji changmin is an easy book to read. he’s pure and rather naive, lacking the decent amount of craft that’s needed to get by the world on the daily. though he's not gullible, he’s transparent in the way he carries on his life and often gets hurt by the unexpected twists and turns in life as he’s always seen the best in others. often too merciful to the chaos and mischief that is unleashed when he’s around others, others always tell him to grow a spine and be able to learn how to say “no” sometimes. yes, if it’s close friends, it may seem fine to go along with the joke or skit but if it weren’t his friends, how’d he get out of the situation then?

brief background.
changmin’s life has been simple but colorful thanks to the warmth of his family and the people who surround him. his mother and her relatives with his grandmother worked as they run their own restaurant in the traditional market while his father was a professor in chungbuk national university. he has a brother six years older than him who now is a pilot upon completing pilot training after his graduation from the air force academy. changmin ended up chasing a better college education in seoul, leading him to juggle all sorts of part-time jobs althroughout the year in order to be more financially independent.

being conventional in their thought and values, changmin's parents had overcame an obstacle when his brother announced his plans to marry one of his childhood friends who went through a divorce. there were temporary shock and slight arguments but his parents decided to welcome his brother's wife with an open mind and warm heart after knowing how nice of a person she was. so, changmin feared virtually nothing when he eventually opens up to his family about hanee's profile. well, they took it better than he thought. they didn't stand up to hit him or yell at him. they just kept asking him about hanee and only stopped when he managed she was a team leader in a private company and her father worked at hyundai.

"hyundai? team leader? marketing? okay, we agree to disagree until we meet her," his mother said as his father nodded in agreement with her. changmin has yet to decide if such words were a blessing or an omen in disguise so for him there's only one way to see what lies ahead. he's going to protect this relationship.

love story.
for someone who never felt something as intense as love, hanee felt so happy as she dated jaeho for four years. naturally she thought they'd build a future together, everyone around them did. just when things were going well, hanee never expected jaeho to choose his career and reputation over her.

even so, hanee knew that soon, the time for her to be happy will come. all of the pain, betrayal, remorse and sorrow will pass. she'll start to feel better after a while as she drowns herself in becoming busy with childcare and work and slowly become the na hanee before the breakup. those around her noticed, too.

fate is a funny and meticulous thing. the first time hanee ever went to the bbq joint changmin works at, changmin was in charge of serving her table. hanee ordered a big pint of beer to go with the amount of meat she ordered with remi as a part of her lunch that day. changmin noticed her immediately, not because she was day drinking but since there was something about her that was familiar but from where?

that's when he realized it... he had met her once in passing at one of his photoshoots with his friends when she was still jaeho's girlfriend. he remembered clearly when he had bowed and greeted hanee to which jaeho told him and his friends, "this is my no.1 treasure." changmin forget that there had been rumors about how jaeho and hanee broke up. and they weren't good ones. didn't the rumors mention a child?

the first interaction between them happened when hanee gives him her card to pay for the meal. hanee and changmin's eyes met. changmin quickly made sure to take care of the bill, leaving hanee and remi rather confused. why was the part-timer so taken aback at the sight of hanee? when she got to the cashier and signed the bill, she looked changmin in the eye and said, "i apologize for being a bit straightfoward but have we made before? i feel like i have to ask you this."

changmin stuttered, "y-yoon jaeho photographer once took over my photoshoot and processed the designs of the spread himself. that's when [i] saw you."

it made sense to hanee, could he be one of the many people in jaeho's industry that heard the rumors. hanee said, "ah, was that the case? then, i hope whatever impression i had was a good one." even if she was talking so calmly, hanee felt her heart tremble at the flashing moments of her and jaeho. their past memories had always started sweet and ended bitter whenever they come across her mind. changmin saw the slight angst in her eyes, he knew he pushed the wrong button. ji changmin, you clueless fool.

"no, it was a good one for sure! i apologize for my reaction. if you come back, one pint of beer is on me. i hope that [it] would be a bit of support. from me," changmin quickly tried to console her as he handed her card back with the check. hanee grinned at the attempt to cheer her up by changmin. he gave off a nice aura. "what if i come here when it's not your shift? what should be done?" hanee joked.

"that would be [your] loss. no free beer," changmin replied quickly. hanee showed a faint smile before handing him her business card. "a promise is a promise so whenever you're on duty, i'll be sure to come by. have a nice night." hanee watched as changmin sent her off with the biggest grin on his face. why was that big grin of his making her weak? perhaps, that was the start of changmin bringing in a fresh breeze into hanee's life.

after that first interaction, hanee found herself going to the barbeque joint several times whenever it was changmin's shift (thankfully, his shift was during lunch hours). they gradually shared more chit-chat with one another. he always listened with empathy and compassion, leading hanee to want to talk more to him. he always writes about his days and antics with his friends and it makes her feel warm inside, seeing him slowly share about himself to her. changmin started to grow respect and fondness towards hanee, seeing that she's managing her job, future career, and personal relationships with a personality he can't hate.

the moments spent after the moment they interacted made it all better for changmin who may have been attracted to hanee since the very beginning. she was pretty, cool and warm all in one glance. he's really glad to have met her and be able to of help to her in some way by responding to her pains. he enjoyed the stories of her life, especially when her office life, dalbit and jaemin come into the mix. deep down, for hanee, she's finally coming to terms with her past heartbreak, for the better. she felt like she made a new friend she could trust and changmin would learn a lot from hanee and try to implement them in his own life.

everything seemed alright and changmin seemed very excited to see what's next with hanee. she always seems like she knows what to say or what he's thinking and her positive energy is contagious, making him want to work harder to make her happy.

that's when hanee brought dalbit to the bbq joint to treat her meat.

"eomma, who is he?" dalbit asked as she sees changmin and greets him formally through a bow.

"i'm your mom's close friend, ji changmin. you must be dalbit, i've heard a lot about you!" changmin said as he helped grill the meat and cut it into smaller bite size pieces for dalbit. changmin smiled at the sight of dalbit eating the meat and told her, "eat a lot so you can grow up well, dalbit!" to which dalbit nodded, "thank you!"

the final obstacle had arrived sooner than later, changmin thought to himself. however, no matter what, changmin will try his best to hold on to hanee. it's time for him to take care of her the best way he knows how, through accepting her the way she is. after all, hanee had never hidden dalbit away from him.

people may advice him otherwise, to not get involved with someone who has baggage (much less a child that's not his) but changmin is on a mission of his own. though many say it's impossible to completely accept a child that's not yours, changmin begs to differ. it just takes more time and effort but it'd be worth it. hanee needs someone to lean on for once after taking up roles that cause her to be the one to be leaned on. even if he himself had been impatient, meeting hanee has caused him to grow patience inside him.

through the bond formed from a fateful encounter, hanee will finally have the courage to trust and love again. getting to know changmin really did help her forgive herself and through that, she got to know just how nice of a person changmin was. she felt like she can rely on him, take care of him and have fun with him all at once. he's always gracing her days with warmth, enabling her to rant about her life. his squirrel-like pout and puppy eyes make her go soft. not to mention, how he treats dalbit is selfless and very much like his youthful naivety. he sees the best in her and dalbit and his heart of gold with his empathy has touched her heart that has been closed since jaeho left.

even when she's in pain alone, he wants her to know that he'll forgive and comfort her when she needs him. he can make her feel at ease, as he learns a lot about life from her. unlike others his age, changmin is an assertive and stable person. the fact that he was not turned off by her having a child had proved something to hanee. perhaps, she's ready to hold someone's hand again and that someone would be ji changmin.

it just takes a leap of faith.

"if i say your name,
it feels like i’m saying 'i love you',
i can’t hide it, my heart pounds"

"changmin-ah, wait," hanee felt her heart beating fast at the thought of what's to come from this conversation.

changmin turned around, barely getting a few steps away from dalbit's sight. he looked at her curiously.

"thank you for everything you've done for us. even if it's hard on you all this time," hanee tried her best not to meet his eyes as she spoke. changmin felt a pang! on his chest as he heard her words. wasn't it harder for her than it was for him? why was she thanking him?

changmin walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her, "well, you are very much welcomed. aigoo, how did you endure all those times alone, na hanee?"

that was when she unraveled and tears just silently flowed through her eyes for the first time in forever. was giving birth to dalbit the last she cried? hanee could not remember as everything just became fuzzy.

"na hanee team leader, it's about time you cried your eyes out. you've come far enough now plus nobody's looking," changmin said as he patted her back.

"then, why are you still here? don't tell dalbit i cried, ji changmin!" hanee said in between her tears and changmin swore she and dalbit looked the exact same when they cried. there was no doubt about it.

"because you don't have to be alone anymore. two is stronger than one, we have to stay together~" changmin said as he hummed to the melody of nine muses' wild before hanee pouted at his silly antics even if she knew it was an attempt to cheer her up. she knew he could see her breaking into a smile as he did indeed manage to cheer her up.

irreplaceable - nct dream

hanee exited her office building in high spirits as she went to the daycare to pick up dalbit. the fatigue that accumulated over the day's work immediately flushed itself away as she met the beaming face of her daughter. "eomma!" dalbit exclaimed as she ran into hanee's arms. this was the irreplaceable joy, indeed.

"aigoo, dal, you seem to be in a good mood!" hanee said as she bowed to the daycare teachers and walked with dalbit hand-in-hand.

"of course, today, i got to draw and i drank the juice box from changmin-samchon!" dalbit's answer made hanee wonder, when did changmin do such a thing? despite that, hanee nodded to her daughter's words.

"do you really like changmin so much?" hanee asked curiously, wanting to hear what dalbit has to say.

"of course~ he's nice, handsome and most importantly, he doesn't leave eomma alone! eomma has someone to help out now, how nice is that~" dalbit cooed and hanee felt something move in her chest.

"ah, really~ then, we should ask changmin to come join us next week when we go to the amusement park if you like him so much," hanee jokingly cooed as she positioned dalbit in the baby seat inside her car.

"that'd be great, changmin-samchon should be our family at this point, eomma! don't you think so?" dalbit says as she smiled to hanee who buckled her seatbelt.

"ey~ you'd have to ask changmin's opinion too, dal"

"eomma, he'd definitely say yes. [he] likes you and follows you around everywhere," hanee could not reply to her daughter's words as it somehow spoke the truth and a part of her and changmin's relationship that they thought dalbit won't know.

"dal, my light, even if that's true, you should know that you're the whole world to me and that you come before anyone else, okay? nobody can take that away from you," hanee said as she tidied dalbit's hair.

"eomma, you make me sound like i'm in a story, you sound like a queen," dalbit turned to hanee and smiled as she liked what she saw in hanee's front camera.

"well, princess dalbit, i will be taking some pictures because your hair is oh so beautiful~" hanee said as she counted 1, 2, 3 and so one, pressing on the button while dalbit was busy posing to the counting.

she was indeed na hanee's daughter.

"everything isn’t going to be easy but i’ll protect you for life...

it was one of those days where changmin does to pick up dalbit in hanee's and jaemin's stead. dalbit has gotten very used to having changmin around and perhaps, she's come to like him better than jaemin.

"how was your day, dalbit? did you have fun today? your mom is running late because of a sudden meeting so let's go wait for her at a cafe!" changmin eagerly greeted dalbit as they hold hands while walking.

"thank you for the hot chocolate, samchon," dalbit said as she sipped from the cup after changmin had waved the steam away. he smiled as he watched dalbit draw on her drawing book and sipped some honey tea from his cup. there was still a good fifteen minutes before hanee's meeting would be over, changmin thought.

"samchon," dalbit's calling caused him to curiously look at her as he sipped some more tea, "would you like to be a part of our family? look what i made!" changmin choked on his tea at the sudden remark from the young girl who just turned five years old who showed a drawing of her, hanee and changmin together.

"really, dal, do you mean that? what makes you say that?" changmin tried to get dalbit to honestly express herself, as hanee had advised him a few days ago. dalbit was at age where she had to talk about her honest feelings, he remembered hanee telling him.

"me and mom are different because it's just the two of us but mom's amazing so it's fine without a dad. if [you] were our family, it'd be better because me and mom would have you. you'd be a great dad," changmin listened and nodded to dalbit's every word.

"good to know i'm welcomed in the family, dal," he said as he ruffled the young child's hair.

"woah, woah~ what's with the air, you two? you guys seem to be having a good time," hanee cooed at the sight of the two as she walked in the cafe.

changmin and dalbit exchanged glances before telling hanee, "it's a secret~"

the ending.
hanee slowly introducing changmin into dalbit's life so they can live happily together as a family.

ending comments.

i left most of the love story developments very loose because i didn't want to limit your writing or imagination on what could happen. plus, i didn't want to get too realistic with hanee's situation (the possibility of changmin's family objecting to their relationship, the stigma of marrying a single mother, the older-younger relationship being frowned on in general, etc.) because i want her to be happy and have you write more lovely sides of their relationship like i included.

i hoped you liked hanee, dal and changmin as much as i did writing about their happy moments together ^_^

funfact! people mishear that changmin calls dal by "[our/my] daughter" and assume they're father-daughter (and that changmin's a young dad lol) because the similarity in the hangul of dal (달) and daughter (딸)
scene suggestions:
❁ hanee and joo having a playdate with dal and the twins
❁  jaeho suddenly passing by a cute moment between changmin and hanee
hanee's parents meeting changmin and giving him the stamp of approval after a heart-to-heart
the moms of the house helping in to watch over dal when hanee's working.
