The Rise of Discrimination, The Essence of Literature.
Before reading this blog, please, take the time to read this article from The Guardian.
It is "funny" how people claiming to be victim of discrimination replicate the exact same thing to others.
So according to the logic behind this uproar we could say that every translator with differences of color, gender, ual orientation, age, life experiences, ethnic origins from an author is unable to translate accurately her or his work...
So many translators should start to find another job in no time then. And books should be bought only by clones of the authors since only them could seemingly truly understand their works if we follow the same "logic".
Who isn't moved when reading or hearing Martin Luther King's"I have a dream"? (beside KKK of course XD) Do we need to be black to understand apartheid, segregation and slavery? Do we need to have a bigger amount of melanin to feel the pain induced by those (not so) historical behaviors? Do we need to have and s to feel ashamed (for the macho) or angry at a macho?
Literature's goal is to spread Knowledge in any way, any style possible. Cultural knowledges but also emotional ones by conveying or inducing feelings. To make readers aware of certain things, to make them open to other cultures, behavior, thinkings, worlds, to educate them directly or not. To make humanity better because at the end of the day we are all the same not matter our differences, we are all human being! Our differences are the cultural richness of the others if they welcome them instead of fearing them.
AsianFanfic, AO3, Wattpad are stakeholders in that process, so we are as authors and readers recommending some fanfics, novels, poems, essais, articles...
As an author, be aware of the responsabilities you have, the impact you can create on the readers.
As a reader, kept reading as much as you can, as various works as possible to improve your mind and soul endlessly and don't forget to use your critical thinking because anything written isn't accurate either.
