Songs/Soundtrack to your stories?

Hello my lovelies!

Yes I know I've been slack for a very long time with no updates or anything. Let's just blame everything on COVID-19 aye? Hahahaha

Last few days I went back to listening to some songs while I do the whole "declutter my life", this is thanks to the amount of time I spend on Youtube watching such videos. There were a few songs that came up on that playlist that brought me back to the time I was writing The Eternal Circle and Rainfall.

It got me thinking if there are certain songs that you listened to a lot while writing that it became the soundtrack to that story? Let me know if you plan your soundtrack beforehand or as you write, or are you like me where it coincidentally happened.

Whilst writing The Eternal Circle the songs that made an impact on me were:

  • Ailee - Is You (OST from the Kdrama Memories of Alhambra)
  • Skylar Gray - Coming Home
  • Wheein (MAMAMOO) - Goodbye
  • Dear Cloud - Love Again (OST from Kdrama Queen for Seven Days)

As for Rainfall they were:

  • Lea Michele - Run to You
  • BTS - Butterfly
  • Tori Kelly - Paper Hearts

If you don't write, do you like it when authors make a playlist for you to listen to while you read?

I'm hoping to be back soon. Missing you all xx

ohh, i like this topic. music plays a ginormous part in my writing. in fact, most if not all of my fanfics were inspired by songs and on top of it, each chapter will be written based on a song that i feel suits the mood and help me write. some fics were so heavily inspired by songs that they became the title itself like Floral Rain in which that one song sets the tone of the entire fic and also the story's /vital scene/plot point related directly to the song title, but each chapter has its own ost that still fits the main theme/tone set by the main song.(i won't tell people to read my fic since everyone have their own preference, but my playlist/ost/good songs, yessss pls: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLANLXvo5_4RKM6phNo7KSRoHiU8o_bhVt) And for another fic with song title (Even If A Thousand Years Pass) because the song itself was originally made for a period drama ost and had the classic/tragic sound of it, it inspired the setting of my fic and the main theme as well. usually, my fics will be heavily inspired by one song, but if it's long chaptered fics, along the way, i'll find songs that i feel enhance my feel/mood in writing each chapter, even if i don't normally listen to those songs. and since they're the ost, i'd listen to them on repeat while writing the chapter and let the song immersed and intertwined with the plot/words.

also, as a reader, i'd love to get behind the author's feels behind their writing through their songs since i do that too as a writer lol. but i guess, it's as long as their 'ost/songlist' aren't made of the kind of music/singer i don't listen to. some groups for example i have no interest to listen to since they're not my style, but if i find a good fic about them i don't mind to read it, just maybe not paired with their songs. and sometimes, even when the writer didn't associate the fic with a song, as a reader at times the story strongly made me think of a song while reading it, so i'd mentally made the song as 'the ost' even if the writer didn't intend it to be like what happened with my fav fanfic 'Persona' (https://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/683969/14) i made me own ost for the fic as a reader haa.

ok, i got carried away by such interesting topic while blogwalking here....i might even have to make my own post to ramble further about the relation between songs and ficwriting thanks to the inspiration brought by this post since this comment already got annoyingly long.
