to many, yoon sekyung is a sweet, quiet and fairy-like actress. on screen, she is like hyun sooah (from "my id is gangnam beauty") without all the bad seeds and schemings. just purely, a good-looking actress with a reserved personality and decent acting. she doesn't have much fluctuating emotions in front of people besides the time she was shooting for dramas. it seems that yoon sekyung is always in a calm state, nothing really would surprise her. this is all part of her acting and her personality setting. ironically, it is her few years ago. sekyung was sweet and everything nice before leaving daegu. she used to be everyone's little princess who would cheer you up with a bright smile and a wrinkly nose. taehyung used to say sekyung has a magical healing power with her warm aura and he secretly thought she was a witch in disguise. nakwon used to say she was belle of daegu: pretty, sweet, tough, mature and raised by a single parent. who would've thought one would have act like herself in the past?

 

when she is around her co-workers and staff, she is more like jang manwol (from "hotel del luna"), with a bit of sassiness and extra-ness than her facade on screen. she knows she is good-looking and makes sure to take advantage of her appearance. perhaps it is sekyung's innocent features, she could easily get away from her deceitful behaviours and manipulations. without the pretentious fairy setting, sekyung is actually an insightful person who is good at observing people around her to impress people. sekyung is deceitful and manipulative. these are her key skills in surviving in the entertainment industry without background.

 

in reality, she thinks she resembles queen consort cho (from "kingdom") the most. graceful and elegant on the surface, but manipulative and evil underneath. detached and apathetic is sekyung's defence mechanism, building a fort around herself away from people she cannot easily trust. but once you have built sufficient trust with sekyung, you would still see the scattered goodness in her. for one thing, she is loyal. she is absolutely loyal to her friends and family, people she care is her limit. she would risk absolutely anything for them. for another, sekyung is a determined person. things she has set her eyes on, she gets them. her determination was essential for her to achieve her current status in the industry. it is the very rare angelic laughter of her reminds taehyung of what a kind person she still is. like many years ago.

yoon sekyung was born and raised all alone by her mother. her father never really existed in the picture. according to her mother, her father passed away in an accident during pregnancy, but sekyung could tell her father abandoned them from the very beginning. well, she did some investigation in her mother's diaries and photographs, and there were rumors around the neighbourhood - it was a small town. sekyung has always been grateful for her mother raising her so independently and regardless of the mental stress as a single mother in korea society. fortunately, her mother, coming from an upper middle class in daegu, was able to provide sekyung with sufficient material with the support of her family. everything was fine for sekyung, as long as she was with her mother. it mattered to sekyung when people showed disrespectful glares at her mother, especially those who heard of stories of her father abandoning her once he knew she was pregnant. but sekyung learnt to tolerate it and one day she'll prove them that her mother was the greatest mother one could ever have.

 

this thought grew stronger when her mother's family announced bankrupt due to a failed investment. sekyung was 15 years old and began babysitting to earn money. her mother had to do one of two part times on top of her full time job as a copywriter. it was a tough time for the family and sekyung set her eyes on the kpop industry. she knew being a celebrity would be the way to earn quick money, and she wanted her mother to be proud of her, so that she would gain face and never feel inferior to obnoxious neighbours. that was when she began to audition for different talent agencies hoping that she could hit the top to take her mother back to the comfortable life she used to have.

 

she was the friend taehyung went to bighit with in 2011. originally she wanted to audition for bighit, but bighit took taehyung instead. sekyung never hated taehyung, and she knew being an idol wasn't her thing. later, she continued auditioning for different acting agencies and stopped looking for idol agencies. in 2013, she was accepted as an actress trainee by keyeast entertainment. she took 2 years of acting classes and trainings before debuting in 2015. she gained recognition when she starred as seong bora in 'reply 1988', and oh yoonseo in 'signal' in the next year. sekyung and her manager had good eyes for scripts, almost every production she starred in was well-received and contributed to her rising fame. her popularity really began to hit the top in 2018, when 'my id is gangnam beauty' was aired.

 

it was never easy. sekyung had to drink with many people to get an appearance on tv shows. she had to have dinner dates with producers and directors to snatch the role from her fierce competitors. the plastic surgeries? all done so that her face would look smaller and prettier on screen. and now the netizens would condemn her for doing too much plastic surgeries. sometimes when gossips and false rumours went viral on naver, she was the person paying peope to make this happen. if sekyung wanted to secure something, the best thing to do would be defeating her competition so that she would be the best choice. four years into the industry, she has become much more familiar with manipulation and schemings to make it to the rising actress.

 

DAILY LIFE. 

yoon sekyung leads a pretty unstable lifestyle as a rising celebrity. when she was shooting a drama, she would mostly be working for more than ten hours a day before going back to the hotel and sleep for three or four hours when she had to get back to get ready for the next shooting day with makeup and script reading. sekyung doesn't really have the energy and mood to do anything else since she's often so emotionally worn out after a long day of shooting. occasionally, she would have commercial shootings or magazine cover shootings but as an actress just gaining recognition and popularity, she doesn't have that much collaboration yet. as for now, she is focusing more on refining her acting skills. a day without work - yoon sekyung's leisure life is pretty dull and boring, after hitting the gym or doing some yoga in early morning at around 6am, she would begin her day by reading and screening the tv drama scripts sent to her by her manager. then, she might watch some variety shows or netflix, until she has her nap. if she is in a good mood, she might invite some friends over for dinner or go out and have some social life, but most of the time she prefers staying in. currently, sekyung is renting and residing in a modern apartment in jamwondong alone. sekyung tries to visit her mother every week whenever she's around, who is currently residing in an apartment in incheon.

 

trivias. 

/ she dated several producers and directors briefly to secure her drama roles. but they are really just taking advantages of each other, it was nothing genuine, at least to sekyung. she never invested any emotions on them and she never found happiness in it. they are just like normal couples but they would exchange benefits on top of that. directors and producers would guarantee her roles in dramas and appearance on variety shows, while sekyung would appear as their dates at galas and social gatherings. sometimes they would ask to sleep with her, but due to her lack of enthusiasm, she would usually get dumped after that. and that's when more connections and resources come in as compensation.

 

/ watches a lot of shows on netflix in her leisure time to improve her english oral.

/ sekyung enjoys reading detective fiction in her free time. her favourite ones are written by japanese authors. you could find an entire bookshelf filled with crime novels in her study.

 

/ is a big fan of the tv show "friends". has probably re-watched it for over 50 times but still isn't sick of it. can recite lines from the show as she watches. favourite character is phoebe buffay and chandler bing is her ideal type. she thinks there is so much emotions on the show.

 

/ chandler bing is her ideal type because he is rich, he is funny and smart, and he loves monica so much.

 

/ sekyung also almost only watches thrillers and horrors. she thinks other movies no longer bring excitement and find them boring.

 

/ is not very tech-savvy. sekyung is a bit slow in adapting to new technologies and she is absolutely clueless about internet memes. her fans lovingly describes her as a granny in a young body.

 

/ frequently drinks a bit of wine before she goes to sleep. she thinks wine helps keeping her skin youthful and it helps her sleep better. high alchohol tolerance, love drinking wine and tequilla. she used to rely on alcohol in destressing in the beginning of her career. in addition, drinking with producers and directors is so essential she has been trained with excessive drinking.

 

/ drinks a lot of water. it is her way of detoxifying her body and maintaining a nice body shape besides exercising. has a small appetite as an actress but her manager doesn't demand a strict diet for her.

 

/ she has a driver's license and owns a bright red porsche macan. it's mostly driven by her manager, and yeonah has been nagging her to change it to something more subtle but sekyung insists that only when sasaeng appears will she change her car.

she hesitated before answering, "as you know, i'm a celebrity, so i don't have a fixed lifestyle, i'm sorry. if you want my schedule for the month, again, just naver." lee yeonah swore to god she could not let this interview be leaked - "anyway, i'm not satisfied with it. if my work would bring me so much sorrow, might as well make more money out of it and increase my net worth, but it is fun experiencing lives of different characters. my work has somehow become my emotional outlet. ironic." sekyung shrugged.

 

how do you deal when life gets hard, if indeed you do? 

"life is always hard," sekyung slowly shook her head and sighed, "therefore, i've learnt to accept it and not do anything about it. because, why waste the time? thus, as i said, acting allows me to express my emotions freely and excessively, i guess." lie. she used to smoke and drink to relieve her stress in the past, but ever since being caught by the paparazzis, she worked hard to quit smoking. and well, her drinking craze has faded away since she couldn't really get herself drunk.

 

sekyung opened and realised she was incapable of putting her hardships in words. she then sighed and suppressed some of her emotions. it was a long silent before she finally spoke, "have you ever looked into a mirror and do not realise who the was that? have you ever feel disgusted of yourself? and have you ever reached that point of life that you truly realise that money does not ing buy happiness? if you haven't experienced anything of these, i don't see the point of sharing my hardship to you. because you wouldn't understand." it is the emptiness at night, the disgust in her stomach when she looks into the mirror and remembers every detail of what she did to get she owns. no one said it was easy. she just didn't realise it could be this difficult. she gave up so much for this, and she finally realised this may not be what she actually wanted.

 

what's one characteristic of yours that you wouldn't want your child to inherit? "a child?" it sounded a bit absurd to sekyung, "i'm not sure if i'll have any children but i guess," she paused for awhile before smiling ironically, "perhaps my shrewdness. i want my child to stay happy and innocent."

 

do you miss high school? what's one of your favorite memories? 

sekyung unknowingly grinned, "i certainly miss high school. i miss when one plus one actually equals to two. everything was so simple and i don't have that much going on my head. everyone was so pure and innocent, and i truly felt loved and cherished by my friends. i guess one of my favourite memories would be when my friends would chip in for my lunch because my family didn't make as much money as theirs did. that really touched my heart."

 

what's one thing you wish you knew back then? 

"that money truly, doesn't ing bring happiness. i can't stress this enough."

 

sekyung paused for a while, "this is all...very taehyung. i initially planned to turn down the invitation because i was in a very complicated mental state and i wasn't sure if i could deal with this on top of everything. i wasn't ready to face all the old friends and memories. and then i began to have difficulties falling asleep and yeonah unnie, this annoying person here, decided it would be healthy for me to take a break from work." she flipped her hair before continuing, "it's not financially difficult for me to book flights and hotels in daegu and since it's unnie's ideas to go back anyways, i won't have problems going on hiatus."

 

what will you be looking forward to the most if you do accept the invitation? 

sekyung tilted her head and thought for some moments, "i figured this would be a break for me. from work and all those cameras. just really, be myself. of course, as much as i refuse to face my past memories in daegu, i certainly would be looking forward to meeting some old friends. i am just not sure if they would still want to see me," she scoffed at herself. she was secretly hoping to run into a certain someone, but nobody has to know this.

so here she is after a long time of procrastinating ! i hope you like her, sekyung is a really flawed character (imo) but still i love her so much and i think her antagonist setting would definitely spice up the story c: please let me know if you need any clarifications on her personalities and background etc. because i felt like i have made her a pretty complicated person (? and i hope it's ok to make the love interest a part of the daegu sqaud !!
